How do I louden my Cherry MX Blue's?
« on: Thu, 13 September 2018, 22:45:08 »
This is a serious post. I work in an open office and I hate everything about it, especially the people. I am quitting soon and want to annoy people as much as possible. My weapon is a filco MX blue keyboard. Can I make it louder some how?

I love the word "louden."
Not even being facetious or sarcastic. I say "louder" as a verb instead of "raise the volume" when watching TV with others.

Another great one I like to use is "embiggen."

You can't make them louder.

Cheapest option is to buy a dirt cheap MX Blue clone board off of Amazon. Those MX Blue clones are usually way louder than actual MX Blues as well as having a more shrill sound and some can even have quite crazy amounts of ping from the mounting plates. $25-$35

Most fun option for an actually good loud keyboard is to pick up some Matias or clicky Alps which make quite a good but still extremely loud sound.

It's a perfectly cromulent word.

I concur.
Maybe they're waiting for gasmasks and latex to get sexy again.

The world has become a weird place.

This.

Or a Model F.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

It must be too late now, but: Peel off the rubber feet off the bottom. Remove the desk mat, if any.

Desolder the blues and solder in some Box Jades.
I put a Gateron Blue into a plastic toy gun, to make a clicking noise, and maybe trigger a LED in the barrel. Then I got a Box Navy to replace it with because I thought it would be louder.
Actually, I think the Gateron Blue was louder!
