[GB] 1976 Add-On Slang-Specialty-Winkeyless
« on: Tue, 24 March 2015, 15:56:22 »
This is a follow-on to the 1976 group buy that ran on PMK. IC/GB thread for the original 1976 set is here: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=65935.0

Order/Commit Form

Some of the child deals did not tip on PMK due to cost. This GB includes revised versions of some of the failed kits with a lower cost with the hope that they will now meet MOQ. The sets include

95043-0
95045-1
95240-2

In addition, a new novelties kit will be added FREE if you order one of the above three sets.

95049-3

There is also a /r/MK kit for the reddit folks who weren't feeling the love during the PMK buy.

95051-4

Pricing is as follows:

Slang Kit
25 sets                    $24 ea
50 sets                    $14 ea
75 sets                    $12 ea
100 sets                  $10 ea

Specialty Kit
25 sets                    $24 ea
50 sets                    $17 ea
75 sets                    $15 ea

Winkeyless Kit
10 sets                    $36 ea
25 sets                    $21 ea
50 sets                    $14 ea
75 sets                    $12 ea

Novelties Kit
25 sets                    $2.00 ea
50 sets                    $1.50 ea
75 sets                    $1.25 ea
100 sets                  $1.20 ea

Reddit Kit
10 sets                    $3.75 ea
25 sets                    $2.00 ea
50 sets                    $1.50 ea
75 sets                    $1.25 ea
100 sets                  $1.20 ea

This group buy will be run "the traditional Geekhack way", and not through PMK. I will be using a "commit to buy at" order system as I did with the Rad Hard group buy. This means that the order form will allow you to specify the sets you are interested in along with the quantity and the price point at which you would commit to buy each set.

For example, you could specify that you would commit to buy 2 Slang kits, but only if the price reached the $14 (50 set) price point.

Is there any chance of adding a stepped Caps Lock key?

Yes, the winkeyless kit really needs it.

Its a slippery slope. I accommodated most requests in the initial buy and we ended up with a specialty kit that did not tip due to its size. The idea of this add-on is to keep costs low by only included the most needed caps. So...convince me that we should add the stepped caps lock.

All my keyboards which use the winkeyless mods use the caps lock in the stepped position. It's a decision I make when I assemble a custom keyboard, that if I use 1.5u mods, I'm putting the caps lock in the stepped position. Most people do it that way with their KMACs, LZs, etc.

At first I read 1976 new thread and was all woo! they're taking a few more orders again! I can get the color numpad set! Then I re-read it. Good luck on the GB!

I have to agree with JD that the stepped caps lock is pretty common for a winkeyless kit. I don't need one, just putting my two cents in.

Oh and order placed.

Ok, I'm convinced, thanks. I am getting a quote on how much the kit would be with the stepped caps lock.

Even for something small like the novelties and reddit sets?
I'm only interested in the novelties and reddit sets, might even buy a couple of each, but not with that shipping. Thanks for the answer, though.

That price is shipped in a box. I could ship by padded envelope for about $12.
Have you had keycaps shipped internationally for less than that?

PMK ships it for free for some reason, but I'm gonna assume it's a bug, although I had 2 numpad sets shipped that way already.
Some eBay sellers ship in first class for $6 or so, TechKeys ships at $9. Also Massdrop ships for $7-$8.

But they're not traceable although having a tracking number, maybe that's why, and I don't mind not being able to track it.

I received the quote from SP to add the Stepped Caps Lock

10 sets                    $36 ea (+12)
25 sets                    $22 ea (+6)
50 sets                    $14 ea (+3)
75 sets                    $12 ea (+3)

If you guys are ok with that I will update the buy to include the stepped cap.

Hi!

I have two questions regarding this Add-On group buy:

1. When is the deadline?
2. How do I add more things to my order? Can I edit my old one or do I just submit a new one and they will be merged into one shipment if they reach MOQ? I realize that I probably can't remove stuff from my already placed order.

1. April 15th
2. If you submit a new form, it will replace any previous order,  you can add and remove from your order.

Is there a way for us to know where the prices are at, and what has tipped out of these buys?

I would be okay buying a few duplicate sets if that is needed for ones to tip and just holding on to them to sell later.

So is this a traditional GB and not run on PMK? I'm a little confused about the OP.

That is exactly it.  It's run in a format similar to Massdrop, but entirely on geekhack in the traditional manner (with the addition of commit-at-price points).   :thumb:

Was about to say +1, but then I read he backed out. WKL is rare enough that I'm in regardless of profile. And I'll get a specialty pack if it gets popular.

Sorry, my bad, the kits I chose (slang, specialty, novelties) don't have an option to commit at 10 units.

Yes, maybe my fault, I didn't feel there seemed to be interest in those kits at the 10 set price point. That may be a bad assumption on my part.

It's been a while but since the main set is getting delivered now will anything be done with this? Did anything tip?

Nothing tipped convincingly, so I thought I would sit on it until the actual caps arrived and see if we couldn't drum up a bit more interest. I will update all the info and see what we can do in the next few days. Things also got a bit busy with my surgery, so a few things slid down the priority list a bit. :-[

Don't even sweat it, engi. Interest will pick up once people have the main set in their hands and realize it's not quite complete without these additional kits.

That's what I think too. We can probably convince people to move their commitment up a tier as well and that will almost cover things getting rolling.

Oh man, hope everything goes well with the surgery. Don't worry about us and our silly keycaps for now. I must have missed a post somewhere in the thread. Much better that you get better first. Plus like the others have mentioned there might be more interest now that the caps are coming in. Wish you the best Engicoder!  :thumb:
