[IC] Geekhack 60% KB Tshirt (updated artwork)
« on: Mon, 09 November 2015, 02:27:14 »
I decided to go back and redo the artwork as I wasn't real happy with the previous design.  I made the new design where I can change the colors of the keys so that I can easily do multiple keysets, and changed over to a closer to OE key profile.  I plan on adding a couple different legends using different fonts.

Let me know which keysets you are most interested in seeing and the most requested will get added.  Miami is already done :)

We are looking at about $25 a shirt shipped CONUS.  We will also ship internationally, at a higher cost.

We generally use Gildan, and can get up to 3XL, though anything above XL will have a cost adder.

Let us know what you think of pricing, design, ect.  I hope to have 2-3 legends and at least 4-5 keysets available by the end of next week.

Any idea about the cost?

May I ask if any of the proceeds benefit the site or a charity of some sort? Basically, where does the money go?

I like the design, if we're doing a geekhack shirt why not use Hack'd by Geeks? I think that would be a cool keyset to print in a shirt.

Please make it available for internationals :)

Are you fixed on the angled design or open to suggestions?

If open to suggestions I'd prefer the keyboard angled and the geekhack in full few (not angled) where it can be read with ease proudly  :p :p

Either was I'm in...

I've always been partial to shirts with the main logo on the back and a small crest off to one side on the front.  Not sure how double sided printing might affect the cost.

Something like the geekhack logo that Badwrench used for his hoodie group buy may be an option.

Since we do our printing on a direct to garment printer and not screen printing, I CAN make edits to each shirt fairly easily, including printing on the back, colors, ect without a ton of set up time.  Let me know what options you would be interested in, and I will work to get a listing up on our shop this week, I assume so far, back printing with a small logo on front, straight text as opposed to tilted.  I've also been thinking of doing something like the pixel art for the keyboards, SO I could do each persons specific keyboard if you want to link me the art?

Cool of you to offer your services Anarkari! A version for a black or slate gray shirt would be pretty rad, I like the oblique angle on the art as it is. :) Be careful about offering all kinds of choices though, it's easy to get bogged down with ideas from all directions!  :))

My own keyboard collection's pixel art on my shirt?  Whoa, amazing.

But I think I prefer a "less is more approach" with my tshirts.

Looks really good! I liked the original art a lot, but that is also something I would proudly wear in public. Also, 1976 please! I know it's not an OE profile set but the colors are just wonderful and iconic. Deep Space would look pretty slick with just a nice gray + purple.

Great update on the designs.  I'm interested!  Penumbra and Dolch (because why not) would look nice in my opinion.

Edit:  I agree with Steezus on Hack'd by Geeks; it would look great on a shirt and be very appropriate for a GeekHack t-shirt!  Also, just noticed that insanely professional background haha  :thumb:

Nah, just kidding.
Hella cool but it depends on what kind of Gildan tshirt. I'm not a big fan of the heavy cotton model as it feels kinda rough/paper-isch.

I work a full time job that usually ties me up until late during the week (too late to work on the artwork), so I will try to have everything up and available Saturday or Sunday. Right now I'm thinking 1976, Hyperfuse, Hackd by Geeks, Dulch and Deep Space (oh and Miami), sound good?

I was thinking about it last night, you might want to mock up a no-color version, just the outline and shading of the keyboard, but with no fill. It could be classier and depending on the shirt printer, reducing your colors to just black and white may save cost.

Im going to second the less is more comment from above.

I think the keyboards are a tad larger than they should be, but then again Im likely the person who would just want a shirt with geekhack written on it. Anything more than that and I feel like too much of a geek.

They design will be a little smaller than the mock ups (probably around 80% of the size).  I blew the artwork up a little bit to make sure they are legible.  We can print this size, but it generally looks better a bit smaller.

Pricing is going to be $15 for S-XL, $17 for 2X and 3X.  Shipping will be around $3 CONUS and international shipping varies.  If you need international shipping, and it isn't listed for your country, just let us know and we will research and get it up.

Carbon ?  ;D

Count me in, a Miami or a Hyperfuse. I still regret not getting hyperfuse when I could. Just too broke at the time.

Any chance you'd be willing to do women's sizes? If not, what's the smallest unisex size you'll be offering?  :P

Unisex small, we used to do woman's cut/sized Tshirts, but they are SO much more expensive than unisex

Eventually, it was so time consuming that it will probably be a couple weeks, BUT I will update the designs once I have the legends done.

I'll start working on Penumbra once we get going, think thats the 2nd or 3rd request for it.  Carbon I'll take a look at also.  Who was the designer on penumbra?

The design is based on Ethan Scoonover's work on Solarized, a sixteen color palette (eight monotones, eight accent colors) designed for use with terminal and gui applications. He released the colors on his web site as well as GitHub.

Penumbra was started and designed by Ryan Uber as an Interest Check and then handed over to CTRLALT when they ran the Group Buy. CTRLALT made a few modifications to the design, but left it largely in tact.

Hope that helps!

I don't know about the fashion in the rest of the world, but would you really feel comfortable going in public with a tshirt which has a 40x40 picture of a keyboard?

I like the idea, but maybe a someone could like a T-shirt with a much smaller drawing?

It's all about not caring what others think and just be yourself. I even a t-shirt that has nothing but cat faces all over it, I use to love wearing it to school to just see all the weird looks I'd get. Here's the T-Shirt

I don't see any controversy about the t-shirt you wear, neither do other people - at least in my country (which is mostly conservative). It's actually funny how geek culture affects pop culture... I don't even feel special anymore  :'(

IMO back print in the collar area is a really good idea since it's somewhat of a "standard" and it looks really neat to have a shirt recogniable from the back. I think we might need to post this to the other thread since it seems more up to date :)

Wear whatever you want if it makes you feel good.  If others judge you (or you think they're judging you) for it, then **** em for being judgey.  They're not the kinds of people who you should waste your energy worrying over.

Moving on.. so, when can I get my hands on one of these since the store still appears to be down http://ellenkaydesign.com/collections/geekhack
My body is ready.

EDIT:  Also, I just noticed that you have GH mousepads!  Once my relationship with my wallet steadies out, I might have to pick one up!  Do any of the proceeds get donated to GH?

We are having some issues with our T-shirt printer, so the shirts are pulled off the store until we can get it fixed.  We are going to change pricing before they go back up, the black shirts are costing us a little more to buy than whites, and we are going to raise the prices on both the shirts and the mouse pads (they haven't been mentioned here as we were just getting them mocked up and on the web site) and donate the additional (plus some) to Geekhack.

Additionally we have some larger mouse pads that we are going to try to get listed in the next few weeks, so if you prefer a large mouse pad you may want to wait.
