Hello everyone. Back with something completely different than my norm as of late. Would anyone be interested in a Tron-themed novelty keycap?:

      

***Update: 12/10/2015 - Should this go forward it would only be for single ABS SA Row 3 in Black with White Legend in the first run. I just got pricing on sets of 2 1.25u Row 3 Mods, and they are ridiculously expensive so I will not be going there. I will stick to single 1x1 keycaps from now on, sho.

Ah, yes. Even still, I'm not sure if I saw this out in the wild that I would recognize it as Tron-inspired. I would ask where they got a Tetris keycap.

Actually a likeness of this logo was 'abandoned' by Disney. I have legal right to my own version of it. Plus SP says it is good to go for Doubleshot...

I am thinking any bright color on black would look cool. Orange on black, White on black, Yellow on black, Green on black, Teal on black, etc. But all colors eye-poppingly bright. The Grey with Black is a wink toward the true inspiration of this key, Tron Uprising:

No DCS...who likes it anyway. Bottom Row does not match OEM well enough for my taste.

As for keycap sizing, I just figured 1x1u, but if there was enough demand, I would certainly entertain the notion to do them in 1.25u

Can this be done? On classic space IC they have a full polycarbonate keycap. Can SP do just the legend on polycarbonate and keep the ABS body?

I don't think it can. I have yet to see a backlit DSA set made ever, and i've never really looked into SA. If you could get them doubleshot with a transparent material I suppose you could go that way. But I have no idea if anyone does anything like that, or if it would even work.

There are many contrasting bright colors on the Grid

I'm not a lawyer but that would appear to imply that you can use the logo, at least in part.  You're only using a tiny portion of it anyway.  If you were using the whole logo that might be a grey area.

Plus, mine is much more pronounced for the square arrangement.

I know there's no chance of the TRON keys being made but a guy can dream. It would be cool to make the logos / text out of glow in the dark blue plastic. They could be backlit with blue leds to make them glow.

If nothing else, at least you've saved Richard Dawkins a lot of time and trouble.  Instead of arguing with theists, he can just wear this shirt and point to it to prove his assertion.



 
edit:  Carbon is the only SA set in my future and I don't think this would go with that set, so I'm still excited for this keycap in DCS.

I would definitely get in on this for multiple caps.  I love both Legacy and Uprising and I'm a little obsessed with the aesthetic.  Flynn's cave from Legacy is my dream office.

Whatever color you go with will be appealing for me, but a white cap with translucent symbol would be my top pick.
