If it was encrypted using a secret key that was wiped during the format, there's a good chance they are unrecoverable. More basic methods of encryption would make it possible, but if it's not just password encryption then I'm not sure. Sorry to hear, and good luck!

I recovered my gmail because - THANK GOD - I got to reset the password by knowing exactly when the account was created.
