1800 Questions
« on: Thu, 05 November 2015, 13:02:51 »
That's questions about the 1800 layout, not 1800 individual questions...

I joined the TX1800 GB, as the layout looks spectacular, but I'm looking for another available board with that layout just in case.

The bottom row layout of that board, which is obviously different than the Cherry retailt 1800 boards, results in, I believe, 1.25 + 1.25 + 1.25 + 6.25 + 1.5 + 1.5.
Is there any easier way to refer to that layout on an 1800 board, other than "a standardish layout on an 1800 board?"  It seems cumbersome :)

Are there any other generally available 1800 layout boards that have the same keycap compatibility that I should keep an eye out for?
I'm enamored with the 1800 layout, but most of my keycap sets just wouldn't fit well on the Cherry boards.

I personally prefer the 1.5, 1.5, 7, 1.5, 1.5 layout because of the symmetry. I just set the right modifier keys to the OS key and fn since I am missing a couple keys.
Such a board that's easy to find is the dolch pac keyboard. Probably the most popular 1800 keyboard.

The layout you're referring to likely has no colloquial name. Winkey 1800 is likely the best title for it though since it does have that extra modifier on the left side. Though I would still refer to it by the full bottom row. It's cumbersome but the 1800 layout is just so far from "standard" that there isn't anything rigid.

I have the same bottom row on my RS96, I just refer to it as the 1800 layout. I actually really like the layout, I was hoping to get a TX1800 at some point but it looks like it is quite delayed.

Usually if you're buying keycap sets, they'll come with 1.25x and 1.5x mods so as long as you confirm that it's "1800 layout" compatible you should be fine.

You should check out some of the 1800 GBs that have happened recently. There's the acrylic SQ buy going on right now, and the LZ CP and TX1800 buys that finished up recently.
