Hi guys, I want to share an idea for a set. I know the colors are a bit overdone and I'm new to mechanical keyboards so someone may have already made this that I don't know about.

Indeed it does, I should stay away from orange and blue at the moment.

Second one I've been doing, Joker inspired set. Already got a feedback thread going on reddit.

I see Evangelion.

How long does it take you to mock up a color set on your 3D model?

Couple of minutes or so, and then the wait for the render. Changing legends takes a lot longer.

Some interesting designs :)

Everyone starts somewhere - these look pretty good for an early cycle.  If you continue to refine the process, just imagine how sleek these will end up!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Thanks everyone you are very kind. I'm going to print some more today. I was running a .3 mm nozzle now I'm back to .4 so my detail isn't as nice. Can't wait to get a duel extruder setup and .2mm nozzles.

I'd love a doubleshot ABS Granite or Dolch style keyset in sculpted SA profile with RGB modifiers. That would be the absolute tits.

Hey, after somebody requested it, I tried a Hello Keytty set - any suggestions? Thats the first time Ive tried a keycap design.
Also: Is this even possible? Signature Plastics doesnt seem to have the more saturated pink tone according to keyboard layout editor.

I found an original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Party Wagon at Goodwill today and got inspired by the colors.

I've been using the SA Retro layout photos for the template. Thanks to whoever made that,

Seeing that I just got Retro SA not too long ago, I think I would prefer this set in DSA than SA.
That or stick to SA but use the same brown and grey as Retro, to allow for mixing and matching

I also have to say that those renders look top notch

And if you ever get bored with too much time on your hands. Please feel free to make a beautiful render of my Cherry/DCS profiled SISO set.  ;D
I know you take requests for them. But I think I'll wait to get closer to moving from IC to GB to make an official render order/request

That is not intentional, but seeing the similarities I'd say Elektronika won't be DSA for sure, if it ever pushes through.

Eh, I really want Cassette DSA to happen (even if it isn't in DSA), but I have no desire to collect the funds and run through the hassle of PayPal.  If I could run it on another site and just handle the distro, I'd be fine with it.  If that doesn't happen, I'd be more than fine with the two merging since it would be pretty easy to do so.  Just make a base TKL or 60% that includes both our Esc, Caps, Enter, and arrow/Insert/that whole row then make each numpad a separate option.

I thought it might be nice to have a thread where people can post their ideas for custom keycaps as opposed to everyone making their own interest check threads. Plus its always nice to see the development of an idea into a final product and this will hopefully serve as springboard for new ideas and future groupbuys.

I guess I will start it off.

I had posted an interest check awhile back about a fingerprint key and there was moderate interest so here it is again.
(Attachment Link) 36538[/ATTACH]

Anyways I look forward to seeing what everybody comes up with :bounce:

Does anyone have a picture of the "fingerprint" key that he was talking about in this post? I've been thinking about making a cap with a fingerprint face...

Here's a really dumb one, but it popped into my head upon glancing this thread.

Modular stems. Have a socket that can allow stems to be removable so that it can work for MX, Topre, Alps, and such (not sure if this would be applicable to BS).

The cap would probably have to be a bit taller to accommodate. It's a silly idea that I doubt would be viable, but I felt like I might as well throw it out there.

I know Clack did a BMX cap that could be used on BS and MX. And someone else had a project that was to create a modular stem... I can't remember who. No doubt Rowdy will remember :P
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

The modular stem is me, I'm using it on Dolly V2.  I'm actually printing a TMX stem right now that I hope works.  If it works, I can probably do a BS stem attachment for it.

Doesn't seem dumb at all, and actually perfectly doable
Maybe have a system like this

where the inside of the cap itself is just a hollowed area, and you can put inserts for Topre, MX, BS, etc

The only known photo of Clack's work in this area is here.

Try not to scroll up or down on that page - disappointment will result.

Sounds like a cute idea, but might be harder to execute because of the nature of the shape of a mushroom? Because it will stick out and might collide with the keys next to it. It's possible that it could just be used for the Esc key though...

I know this is rather vague, but you know what I really need. A Caps-lock key that says "Do it all" or "No Yelling" or event just "CtrlEsc"

Because for the last four years my Caps Lock has not been a caps lock.

WASD can probably to that for you ...

Re: Custom Keycap Ideas Thread - all ideas welcome (Lambda, Custom key ideas)

I'm a fan of Lisp, Lisp Machines, and 70s terminal keyboards in general.  I like the Orange and Yellow
key caps of the old ADDS Consul line of terminals.

The half-life logo would be cool for a Lambda key, but I'd also like something that resembles the
old BBC Micro layout.

And perhaps a MICR font (the kind that you see on the bottom of checks)

Two questions:

1) Do the custom double-shot keycap houses assume you're using Cherry MX keyswitches?

2) How many key sets need to be ordered before it's considered feasible to order a custom set.

Thanks

I think it cloud be awesome to have keycap with half life logo:D

And btw is there any max size/resolution for attached images?
Have a vintage Hall-effect keyboard, otherwise mostly Apple //, Atari 800, and too many Mac (ADB) & PC keyboards to count.

Prefer NKRO keyboards
