[GB] Cherry MX switches Round 3 (Silent Black)
« on: Wed, 17 May 2017, 07:18:27 »
GB link here : https://shopkey.doyustudio.com/005swcgb

Depends on IC check last week.
Non RGB, plate mounted silence Black GB is gogin.($48, 0.4/pc)

This GB will end on 5/31 23:59, 2017 (UTC +8)
And start to ship from early June, 2017.
Ship by small pack, DGM, air pack or DHL.
Hope this time the ic quantity is correct -0-
Much more than expect last round, so silent red delayed.

Since we've ran another Cherry switches GB around Dec 2016 and Apr 2017.
So we only provide types that do not show in last one.
If you need other switches, please check our site.

If shipping fee is > $10 for single pack, mean there might has some error.
Please contact us, include quantity, country in the message to help us spot what cause the issue :)
If you have any question, leave comment here.
Or send us a mail : sy_yang@doyustudio.com, sales@doyustudio.com, or send message to https://www.facebook.com/douystudio/.

FAQ :
1. Other quantity like 50, 100? No, single size pack is reason why we can reduce processing cost and offer low price.
2. PCB mounted? No, Cherry representative in Taiwan does not have it now.
3. Combine with other item? Yes, but have to wait for GB order.
4. Other switch? No, we won't put same item for group buy after a short period from last one.
5. How long will it take for shipping? 2~3 weeks with standard shipping. Maybe 4 for some countries / areas.
6. Claim value? 1/3~1/2 of real value
7. About the "smoother stem" : I don't know, we can't make any promise on switches we sold on this issue. If there has 2 different mold is manufacturing now, we don't even know what we'll get in next order since Cherry never publish any news about that, all rumours aren't official.

Shame there's no pcb mount. Haven't tried silents yet, so I'm waiting on my reds from the last gb to show up before I jump on this one.

Same. I want silent blacks but I don't want to order until the others are here.

Quick question on these Silent Blacks and the other Cherry linears you have on the site. Are these all super smooth from that new/fixed tooling?

What's the word on Silent Blacks vs Gateron Blacks? I tried Gat Black stems in my Zealio housings (I think just stock Gat housings right?) and they were so freaking smooth. I almost straight up just left them in there, but ended up swapping them back out. Probably going to put these Silent Blacks on my next board or the one after that (have a few in GBs) but I'm curious to hear more opinions about them with the "new tooling".

This is the new black switch that's supposedly smoother than vintage blacks, right?

Totally different. Silent black cherry are heavy spring weight with rubber dampeners. Gateron blacks are light weight regular switches.

Also... zealio housing *is* gateron housing? should have been no different right? I thought it was the stem that was POM on the zealio.

This is the new black switch that's supposedly smoother than vintage blacks, right?

I believe the hype is regarding the new regular black switches vs. vintage... which i agree, seem smoother before lube. However, all the new switches are significantly smoother than what cherry used to make.  :thumb:

I think it depends on which round of Zealios, R4 and later has significantly less wobble. May have to ask Zeal, but I think the first three rounds were almost the same design as Gaterons except with the gold internals and completely clear housings.

For me, the main draw to vintage blacks was the balance between smoothness and stability. Before Cherry improved their tooling, MX blacks were very scratchy and while Gaterons were much smoother, the wobble was intolerable. Glad that Cherry recognized their competition, innovated with MX Silents and now nobody needs to worry about sourcing the smoothest, cleanest vintage blacks for a good MX based linear experience.

Yup. I'm a huge gateron fan... but after playing with the new tooling/material on the silent reds, silent blacks, silvers, and regular blacks.. I'm going back to Cherry with their tight tolerances and stronger switch tops.

Just got my silent reds yesterday, and the super smooth is quite debatable. For the record I have multiple keyboards with vintage and new mx switches and Gaterons.

These are interesting switches, they still have a bit of scratchiness to them and the stem seems wobblier than the other mx switches I have. The reduced travel isn't bad at all, something I could get used to very easily. There's no loud clack on bottom out or upstroke compared to the Gaterons, but nice quiet thock. Exactly what I've been looking for.

How didn't I think of that? Thank you good sir.

Gat Blacks aren't that light. Certainly heavier than MX Reds. And yes I think Zealio housings are stock Gateron housings like I mentioned, but I wasn't sure if they have been modified at some point.

Curious to hear about wobble. I don't worry about it or notice it with my Zealios so unless these Silent Blacks have 0 wobble and are smoother than Gat Blacks, the only reason for me to use them might be the silence! I really gotta desolder the Zealios on this board so I can properly try Gat Blacks.

Sure,
I think the only different between red and black is force.
Red is more popular in Taiwan.
Maybe it is because of physical difference, we got weaker fingers haha

I think silence black is different mold.
I can't guarantee about the mold issue though.

Just a idea.
So many people care about smoothness...
Why don't we just change the switches top and stem into PTFE(Teflon)...
That will be ****ING smooth. :p
PTFE is awesome plastic with the lowest coefficient of friction of all solid materials.

The only disadvantage is pricing.
Maybe 2 or even 3 times expensive on the cost @Q@
Not to mention small quantity manufacturing for only so small community -0-.

coefficient of friction:
Only consider the most common form:
ABS:770
POM-C : 14
PBT:0.24
PTFE:0.198

Another downside is the high wear rate. Tough to say how long it would take but the actuation point would creep higher and higher until you barely touch it and it actuates. It might even get to the point that it looses the ability to stay open.

More wobble?? That's not good news :(

Interesting. i have not seen any wobble in the standard or RGB ones i received with my vortex switch tester. There were 6 in there and they are all rock solid and smoother than my vintage blacks.. they have less wobble in comparison to the gaterons i have next to them in my tester setup.

That's re-assuring. Will just have to wait for the next GB for silent black. I initially registered for PCB mounted ones but have since gotten a batch of vin blacks. Will definitely be keen for plated mounted RGB versions if they become available.

Do we know what color the housing is on these? I've seen some Silent Reds with clear tops, but the pics of the GB site show Reds with black tops.

EDIT: Articles seem to say RGB have clear housing while non-RGB are solid housings, so these shoukd be solid. Excellent for me, hoping for all-black housing and stems :)

^ i'm under the impression these will all be solid black. not the clear rgb tops.

Yup, black one.
Not sure why you prefer black one @@?
For DIP LED?

Is it possible to order 130pieces instead of 120?

Yeah I'd like an extra 10 pieces too.

Sorry,
We pick them bulk, so might not able to check every order quantity individually.
