Discovered on i95 that the cruise control on my van won't engage over 90. Yes, the wife was asleep.
I'm back.

About to take off for a 700+ mile road trip.

Godspeed Ray! :thumb:
Well all day driving with the wife and kids went surprisingly well. Traffic and weather were great but every place we ate at or in one case tried to eat at had horrible service.

But we made it home!

Gratz on the safe trip.  The longest one I have done is 1300 in one shot.  That was 20 hours of drive time by myself.  I don't think i would do that again.

Roadside dining is meh at best...there are exceptions but I personally can't remember the last good meal I had at a roadside pitstop.

One of the best BBQ places I've eaten at, and it's inside of a truck stop, in a town that's pretty much known for being a large truck stop :p

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

friday: drank until 3am. spit on the neighbor's dog and other fun.

saturday: spent nearly all day reading reddit. found out that my typical day should involve listening to putin's speeches, beating gays and getting beaten by the police. then had a columbo night with wife and beer.

sunday: went to thai massage ("77 minutes of happiness") with wife, it was ok but nothing special. then went to a chocolate bar. then to a seafood restaurant. had coconut soup and shrimp dumplings. was also ok but nothing special. then wife went to a book store and i went to a liquor store. then columbo night continued.

Having talked **** about COD for years yet never having actually sat down to play for more than 10 minutes, today I played through the entire solo campaign of COD: Ghosts and can happily report that all my **** talking about the linear, hand-holdy, poorly written, trope after trope, instant death quicktime ****ery I thought the franchise was, is indeed all that and worse.

I feel a great affirmation today :D

Set a pair of 39' 3000 pound rails about 35 feet in the air on the bridge beams only to find out the beams were not even close to straight so the contractor had to fix that before we could continue with those rails.  We are installing a 25 and a 50 ton bridge crane in a new building with no roof.  Its still a touch chilly here in Iowa.

recorded the route of my cycling to work for the first time (using endomondo and satellite navigation). surprisingly precise, though the track shows that i have an extraordinary ability to cycle over a river.

Without the aid of a bridge?  Impressive.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

not really impressive when the river is covered in ice (though that was not the case).
