Talked to a teller of 35 years about IBM 4704 systems for a while then found out that they shredded all the equipment a few years ago :(. But he was a cool guy and new a crap ton about the hardware.
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

Went to Russia's oldest capital, Staraya Ladoga, founded roughly in 745.

Never go there if you are athletic. The last icon prohibits.

Funny combination of the old and the modern there, in the fortress. These stairs are ~500 years old.

Those pincers attracted my attention. They look surprisingly good despite being 1000 years old.

My hand is too big for the 10th century sword.

These two are the stamps used by the local bureaucrats. The trident is from the 13th century, the Virgin Mary icon is 200 years older.

It is not a model, it's a working phone in the local souvenir shop.

This is the symbol of the Ruruk's dynasty (Rurik is sorta founder of Russia).

It is surprisingly popular between protesters in today's Ukraine.

Hope that wasn't the worst 30 seconds of your day. Thank you for your attention.

P.s. I've spent the whole day under the influence of various substances. Feel free to report this to the authorities.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Had to go restart my unemployment claim today.  Had to type on a WYSE rubber dome board.  I had so many mistakes it was unreal.  That thing was total torture.  I almost would have rather used an on screen keyboard with a mouse.

I successfully remapped the number pad on my XT to a pseudo navigation cluster/arrow keys with a windows key, wake, and sleep key.  Thanks spamray for the link to wcass's explanation for dummies on how to go about that.  If I get around to it I will post the layout later.

If you just want the switches, you could just put the solder gun on the solder, heat it up, and pull, and eventually between the 2 pins, it will come out.

When I didn't have a solder wick, thats what I did, but I also ended up burning the PCB board, so, take it with a grain of salt if you want to keep the PCB.

Attempted to desolder a wyse board , burnt myself twice , killed my 2€ desolder pump , only 1/3 of the job done . That's ok I guess ...
If you just want the switches, you could just put the solder gun on the solder, heat it up, and pull, and eventually between the 2 pins, it will come out.
Interesting I'll try it .
When I didn't have a solder wick, thats what I did, but I also ended up burning the PCB board, so, take it with a grain of salt if you want to keep the PCB.
Don't care about pcb , so that's fine .
Vintage black harvesting I assume?
yep preping the switches that will go on the RedScarf III.

Are vintage blacks really that good? I have only ever tried 1 black switch, and they feel fine as they are.

Mine aren't really vintage I believe , most like old and broken in because they are very close to my other blacks .

walked about two kilometers in -20c weather with lots of wind and icy ground carrying lots of food because dinner

almost grew the guts required to clean my other backup keyboard, then didn't because I don't want the dorito to kill me
it's pronounced "danw omansen", not "dan woman san"
