Tn Panels

tp4tissue:
Plugged in an ol' TN from the basement today.

LG,  L203wt. 20inch,  1680x1050, 16:10,  60hz

Original spec:  300 nits, CCFL

What's left: 130nits,   This only ran ~13,000 hours.  so much for LG quality...

540:1 Contrast ratio left. the reason is the blue channel is weaker now due to the wear/tear.  it should be around 700-800:1 brand new.

Gamut is pretty good, 92% srgb (103% volume)
People knocked TN for bad color, but this wasn't always true.

Takes Tp4 right back to early 2000s Gotta tilt your head JUST RIGHT, otherwise the contrast is messed up.

When you get the eyes lined up though, still looks pretty good.

Leslieann:
LG is an OEM, but LG consumer products are known to use parts from any supplier, not just LG, especially at the lower end.

So while it's an LG monitor it doesn't mean the panel inside is LG.

Hrrrrm....in the service menu this model uses a taiwanese panel by CPT,   they would've been at technological parity with what LG was doing around this period though.

Just saying don't blame it all on LG.

It may not be even close to parity, it may have been he only way to reach that price point.

tp4tissue:
but i do blame LG, they chose this panel. it sux0rz. lg's dithering chip at this stage was also crummy, gradients are not smoot
