Details
The keyset will be in the KAT profile by Keyreative. KAT keycaps are PBT plastic, sculpted for comfort and, feature sharp, reverse dyesub legends. The KAT Space Cadet colors will be color matched to an original Space Cadet keyboard.

I'm certainly interested in this set, but I'm still figuring out what kind of profile I actually enjoy typing on. I've gone from OEM to DSA to Cherry, and Cherry has very clearly been the best so far. I type faster, more accurately, and it just feels and sounds great. DSA is... weird. I get more inaccuracy, but I enjoy the texture and feel a lot. I've also tried some SA on meetups, and for those short sessions I've very much enjoyed typing on SA. The question is how close KAT will be to DSA, as opposed to SA, in terms of how it feels to type on for longer periods.
Anyone who has used KAT for long periods and can give an overview of how it felt going from Cherry or SA profiles?
KAT is like SA if it was OEM height, less sculpted, less scooped, and made of silky smooth thick PBT. So not much like SA ;)
It's hard to compare to Cherry because Cherry is sculpted very differently, and KAT is spherical whereas Cherry is cylindrical. Cherry is also lower profile.

It's by far my favourite profile to type on, and the surface texture is something no other keycaps have topped for me. The sound is also excellent, owing to being 1.65mm(!) thick PBT.

As someone who’s only ever really used cherry profile, how are these to type on in comparison? Do they take some getting used to? Do they feel better/worse?
I know that abs can be more thocky but is the pbt on these still nice and thick?

KAT is really a pleasure to type on, very thocky and resonant. A lot like SA but more chonk I guess. All profiles take some time to get used to, and it is more like SA than Cherry as the profile is spherical rather than planar like cherry. There's a lot of videos on Youtube that you can use to judge the sound profile though!

Sadly, based on your earlier statement, I ordered around it, instead equipping another board (in for colemak, ortho mods, novelties and numpad). I’m afraid I can’t justify picking up this revised ergo kit.

We've updated the kit for this change, please check OP!
Same things for french layout, the accentued letters are minus for exemple on 2, 7, 9, 0, % keys on a french keyboard
We're going to keep them as-is for aesthetics, sorry.

We maed a few little changes to the Ergo Legends as well, removing the extra r2 page up/down keys. The profile changes to the thumb cluster were also flowed to the blanks. Thanks for your feedback.

I think 75% boards are much more fluid in what can go in that column. 1800 boards pretty much have all the keys, where a 75 might not have the delete key. For example I have macros on that column of my 75 and delete on a layer of the backspace key.

No. The <> and µ* keys are alphas and therefore are supposed to be alpha-colored, not mod-colored. The ² and ²³ keys do get a mod-colored version, as they occupy the spot used by the `~ key in the English (US) layout (which for well-established aesthetic considerations does get the dual keycap treatment).
The 2U backspace is part of the Mods kit (unless you want a keycap with the actual legend "effacer" or something to that effect).

Thanks for the suggestion but we will not be changing the colors of the ISO kits in the manner you are suggesting. The row 5 2u backspace is the one included in the 60s+ kit already.

There are no individual kit MOQs for KAT & KAM group buys. Instead, the MOQ is the total number of keycap units sold. A standard alpha counts as 1u, a standard RETURN is 2.25u, a standard spacebar is 6.25u, etc. KAT Space Cadet's MOQ is 54,000 units, and as of 29 April 72,200 units have been sold. MOQ has been met, so all kits will be made.

Is it more expensive to dye somehow?The alpha kit is 54 units (51*1u + 2*1.5u), and the novelties are 52.5 units (26*1u + 6*1.25u + 6*1.5u + 2*1.75u + 1*2u + 2*2.25u). This means that the kits will likely use a similar amount of plastic to make.

40s Mods: Grey 1x2u.
Ortho Mods: Grey 2x2u, 2x1.5u, 2x1u. Blue 2x1u.
Spacebars: Grey 1x2u, 1x1.25, 2x1u. Blue 1x2u, 1x1.25, 2x1u.
Accents: Yellow 1x2u.
Ergo Blanks / Legends: Grey 2x2u. Blue 2x2u.
None of the printed blue r1 1u with legends in Ortho Mods are convex.
If I want 2x1.5u and 4x1u, say for a crkbd, I could get the the Ortho Mods and have grey 2x1.5u, 2x1u and blue 2x1u, but if I want >4x1u I can't get that from one kit.

Remember Space Cadet is not set to ship until December and that is a lot of time for keyreative to assess, and implement changes to their production. We will see many additional sets shipped before ours so we can continue to monitor the quality situation. You can be confident that Alas, MKUltra and I will strive to deliver the best quality product we (and keyreative) can.

I don't think he ever acquired the OG board, but I'd say that we can trust SA Symbiosis matched (or at least REALLY close) the color, so I wouldn't worry at all. Just my 2 cents

We finally heard from keyreative...
Essentially they needed a special base color for our set which was only just delivered so they are currently dye subbing for samples. Because of the delay, some other sets have jumped ahead of us in color matching stage so we're a bit behind.
To be clear based on the timeline, we're about 3 weeks late for samples compared to Atlantis, which given the situation (covid) by itself is not terrible, then when you consider the extra time for the special color things kind of line up.
We'll try to stay in touch but things are moving along albeit a bit slower than we'd have hoped!

Look at the yellow keys. The KAT keys are a bit desaturated and lean a bit orange.
The grey keys are a little darker than the source samples, and the grey seems a teensy bit bluer.
The blue keys seem to be well within margin of error, IMO.

We've been reaching out to our contacts several times a week and not getting any information from Keyreative right now. They have our feedback from the colors so it is a waiting game to see when we will be fit into the queue. We all know we're dealing with an understandably busy manufacturer at this point. I'm not super pleased about the communication but things do seem to be moving behind the scenes. As you've seen with other sets in front of us, we're unlikely to meet a 2020 ship date sadly. I wish I had a more solid timeframe to point you to, but I do not. However, I can share my confidence that our patience will pay off when we get that color match we're looking for and the quality we expect. We have to be grateful for the sets before us in the queue burdening a lot of the load correcting Keyreative's process. I do expect that to really reduce the likelihood of quality issues with Space Cadet.
We'll do our best to keep you posted when we know anything.

Blue is approved as-is. Very good match!
Yellow is very close, slightly more orange but its very subtle and partially due to texture differences IMO.
Gray is furthest off but Alas and I agree that the Gray on the Q here is pleasant and does not have the red cast that the other samples have. It is not a perfect match but it seems to be clear that a perfect match may be beyond Keyreative's capabilities. We Can still reject this match and request additional samples but as you know, we've already slipped past expected dates and the further we delay approval, the further we delay production. We are prepared to accept the color Q but definitely want to make sure you, the buyers, are willing to accept this as well.
As such, please fill out this straw poll so that we may know how you feel. We'll check back in a few days and move from there.

I agree, it's definitely slow going. Expecting more delays is entirely justified - I just was disagreeing with the assertion that they had ceased production completely, as it could get turned into misinformation that gets spread around. ;)

I should clarify that I heard this a few months ago and not directly from Keyreative. I assume it's just a temporary measure because demand for KAT has been pretty crazy.

In the final image, our 2 mats on top, followed by the recent space themed mats from Drop - notice they used white thread and deyed it, leaving a fringe of off-colored edging. I much prefer the anthracite thread on ours! The bottom mat is the Novelkeys hexagon mat which is pretty well used so the threads look a bit more uniform and smoothed out.

Seems like preorders are still up I just ordered my kit for extras tonight.
I got in contact with MKUltra and it seems like they are trickling out preorders (maybe to stave off bots). So I was able to grab the spacebars as well. In the end I got accents, another grey alpha, and spacebars, so now my total order is like $350+ but the color samples look dope so I am excited. Looking back, I am less jazzed about my other KAT purchases like iron...

Because the alphas are reverse dye sub, not unlike Wraith, the bar homing keys have halos, but the more detrimental issue is that the legends appear on top of the homing bar itself. We've asked if we can get duplicated scooped homing keys as well as the bars (scoops without bars, and normal bar). Scooped homing was not available when we ran the buy or we would have done that from the beginning. We're still waiting on a response from Keyreative since June 1st.

Kitting is taking the bulk keycaps and putting them into the kits you bought.
Also, we've received a report from a Chinese ZF customer that they have already received their set! While this is great news, neither Alas or I have been provided a full set for final quality review. The one person we've had contact with who has received a set did not have any unexpected issues, so at least there's that. We're trying to contact ZF/Keyreative to understand why sets have gone out without our final approval, and this may delay further shipments but that is unknown at this time.

Excuse my ignorance but I don't understand what a scooped homing key is. Does this mean there will be a fixed version of the homing keys with a bar that doesn't cover the legends or just a duplicated homing key that doesn't have a bar at all? I'm good either way as long as I get a homing key that doesn't have a bump in the middle of the legend.
I do find it very unusual that a Keycap manufacturer thought this was OK though. If this was some kind of mistake that would result in a delay that's understandable but if these made it all the way to mass production and they looked at the result thought they did an acceptable job and wanted to send them to customers this way that doesn't speak very well of their operation.
I appreciate the transparency and frequent communication that has been shown throughout this entire group buy though. There were a lot of issues that popped up and they were all handled as well as anyone could expect. You've done a great job.

A scooped homing key is when the homing keys have a curved shape.

This would avoid the problems with legends going over the bars and also halos around the bars since it avoids them altogether, while still being different from regular keys. Bonus: they look cool.

Out of curiosity, are you measuring stem-to-stem? Because that minor difference in length of the body of the bar isn't particularly relevant to whether it fits on the stabs. However, if the stems for mounting don't match up, that'd be good to know.

What do you mean by that? The ISO South kit has all the Spanish (ES/Spain) keys. This kit does not include tertiary symbols, though, but that is by design.

This is most frustrating. It appears that Keyreative is incapable of aligning legends correctly and consistently. I'm extremely disappointed in what passes for "quality control" there.

CannonKeys offered a time window to cancel the GB order after Keyreative changed the KAT Explosion
from dye sub to double shot. That's completely Keyreative's one side decision. I canceled mine.
I guess the Space Cadet won't be justified for canceling as it's quality issue, tho very very disappointing.
The manufacture seems not stable. I would just avoid.

I’m fairly certain the website has said that for a long time. I’d trust the email more.
It did say 30th September the time I checked before.
What ETA did the Email mention?#
Maybe the new date is only for the Pre-Orders not the GB.

There are still big hangups at ports, and even after that there can be delays getting things from ships to warehouses. So early October might have been a tad bit optimistic, but I still think it should be happening soon.
Also, I don't think pre-orders and gb orders will ship separately, they are all coming in together.

No it's a warm-ish yellow. That's intentional.

That said, I do think the quality of the dyesub is very good, especially for being reverse, and pretty much all the non-stabilized caps I received seem to be in good order.

How many folks who pre-ordered from MKU have received their orders? I answered the "confirm your address" email and was told that they "marked [my] order ready to go....A month ago. No tracking info, no status change on the website, no follow up from them over 2 weeks ago after I asked if everything is okay.Email Sebastian at mkultra. He's been quick to respond to issues from my experience.
Did anyone else experience this or has everyone gotten their stuff already? I'd be sad if the GB fails for me at the 1 yd line.

Got my sets yesterday (Blue alphas, grey alphas, mods and spacebar kits) and did a live unboxing. There are definitely issues with the 7u spacebar + Retooled cherry stabs. The spacebars have a difficult time returning and get stuck. Likely due to the shrinkage from the dye subbing process.
6.25u were fine.

My 7u spacebars have the same issue as yours, and I have contacted zfrontier about this issue.
The first time they sent me replacements and it's not much better, I contacted them again and they didn't want to admit it's a problem of the keycap itself.
I spent quite amount of time explaining to the customer service about why the spacebar not returning properly (the stem-to-stem distance just too short).
Finally he promised me he would contact the manufacture and send me feedback.
Sadly it's been almost two months and I haven't heard anything from ZF.
I'm regretting joining this GB and disappointed at Keyreative keycaps.

They got like 3 GBs worth of stuff in at one time so they are still making their way through everything. It's slow going but they did set the ship date as November 30th so you should have tracking by then.

You were quite correct, they're dealing with the 3 GB's and the holiday rush. Just gotta hurry up and wait as they say.
Update 12/19/2021: 19 Days past the shipping date for preorders and we're still waiting.
Just for kicks and giggles I ordered extras from Zfrontier and DailyClack with the default shipping speeds after making this post. 2 orders from 2 different vendors shipped through congested ports across the Pacific beat a vendor in the same country as me with a lead time of 3 months.
Un-freaking-believable. What the hell are they even doing over there?
