Decided to post a little tease. Prototype is currently in Jae's possession. He will be doing fitment testing for the plate, pcb, and see-through panels before sending it to me for final approval.

It seems like glass will not be viable. It's difficult to find a glazier that can cut to the specifications that we need, the tolerances would not be close enough, and also it'd be too costly. Jae has ordered acrylic panels which should arrive this week. So, we're hoping to finish fitment testing of all the parts soon.

That all makes sense.  Thanks for the update. Such a lovely project.

What about offering an add on for an additional set of windows.  Could keep them stored away for down the road if you get a bad scratch.

I second Pixel's ideal, scratching is the only real issue with using acrylic. If you offer extras nobody can complain down the road if theirs get scratched & they didn't buy an extra set, LOL!

Why not go for museum/gallery grade variants? pretty sure they won't scratch as easily and are easier to cut for that matter. Could be less pricey.

Appreciate the update. Glass is nice but not worth any significant cost increase.

The shape of the acrylic seams rectangular so glass planels are easily doable on your side if you really want to have glass.

Glass panels were something we really wanted. It's not like we contacted one shop, was declined, and gave up on the idea. Jae has contacted a handful of glazier shop but the radius of the corners is too small. Also we would need 2mm thickness whereas most shops only do 4mm minimum. Finally, as I stated before, the tolerances would not be tight enough for the mounting system that we are using. No question that we could probably get something in that shape with glass but the chances that it wouldn't fit or would not be snug with the rubber mounting seams would be too high. However, we will be releasing the files for the panels after the group buy for anyone that wants to try to get them made themselves.

I was talking from your perspective.  I meant that the customer can easily make the panels on their side. It wasn’t clear, my bad.

Yeah, its a difficult one. We can physically get glass cut to size, but its not cheap, and its not toughened as we need it in 2mm thickness. From a safety perspective I wouldn't be comfortable with 2mm thick glass in there after some conversations with Glaziers - plus there would be some re-design of the board needed as we would need to change the internals and thicken up the height to accommodate thicker glass and still have room for components. Given the cost associated to achieve that, plus the cost variance in glass and acrylic vs having a great material available in perspex off the shelf it def makes sense to go with that for now.

That being said we can always open up the files for people to get some additional materials made up for the window areas.

    Curious to ask ...
If I were to reverse engineer a pcb to fit this case, would the spacing, which houses the dual-side clear panels, fit 1.5U keycaps properly? Say, keycaps from an ergo kit....

Do you have a render of what it might look like? Just cuz I'm being extremely adventurous.

The implementation of window mount and the diffuser was not exactly satisfactory. We will be making some minor changes and ordering another prototype. We are aiming to have the GB in Q1 of next year. Also, it is quite likely that we will be able to offer more units than the previously mentioned estimate of around 200. I will provide more updates as I get them.
