I like the term "bug."

In 1946, when Hopper was released from active duty, she joined the Harvard Faculty at the Computation Laboratory where she continued her work on the Mark II and Mark III. Operators traced an error in the Mark II to a moth trapped in a relay, coining the term bug. This bug was carefully removed and taped to the log book. Stemming from the first bug, today we call errors or glitches in a program a bug.

I loathe "information superhighway" and "web surfing". I sometimes write the latter word, but with an 'e' because it is more descriptive that way ...

Okay. So what is the new word now? And why did it change? We still have local networks that host internal services for companies, no? What should I be calling this now?

Turbo button

I just recently learned that the Turbo button actually slowed down your computer to allow compatibility with programs that otherwise wouldn't have run on the newer, faster chips that were coming out.

Intranet is right. LAN is a much broader term. At least that his how I feel.

If all the sites in a VPN are owned by the same enterprise, the VPN may be thought of as a corporate "intranet".  If the various sites in a VPN are owned by different enterprises, the VPN may be thought of as an "extranet".  A site can be in more than one VPN; e.g., in an intranet and in several extranets.  In general, when we use the term "VPN" we will not be distinguishing between intranets and extranets.

That RFC was written in 2006. VPN can terminate in any part of the network you configure, by no means is it restricted to an Intranet. You can have a VPN terminiate in your DMZ, LAN, WAN, wherever you want.

You should read the RFC from 2015 good sir, the word Intranet isn't used once.

If it's not a publicly accessible internet, it's an intranet. Just because you can use remote access to get to it, doesn't mean it's not called an intranet.

To clarify, I'm talking about an internal internet page for employee self service and stuff, not just your personal files and stuff.

I admit I'm not in IT, but this is was I was always taught.  Seems strange to just abandon a term when the technology is largely the same (unless I missed something).

"The C prompt"
"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

We still have an intranet. 95% of our company calls it SharePoint, I like to call it hell.

We used tapes as well up until last year. It's still a viable cold storage option, and not a bad one at that. The backup software used to write to the tapes on the other hand....(LOOKING AT YOU BACKUPEXEC)

We have an internal SharePoint on out intranet  :p both get used for different things.

Oh god, and the massive robot we used to store, write to and eject our tapes was enormous. Now there is a huge space where it once was, and all our tapes got destroyed. Lol.

Best thread, you can tell who's in the IT world, who's a dev and so on.
But a phrase I never hear anymore is "Ribbon cable"
or
CD Tray,CD Drive, pretty much anything to do to with a CD is obsolete.
