Same colorway? I've found the green to be a little dry on gmk camping r1
Am I correct in assuming there will be a handful of new novelties? (I see one already).
I would be in for a novelties kit just to go with my existing GMK Camping... and spacebars since I didnt buy the first time around.

Gmk camping is easily one of my top3 gmk sets. I was super excited to see beeing rerun. In my honest opinion I dont think the sublegends fit the theme at all and I would have much preferred a revamp of the kits. That beeing said if you decide to go with sublegends/hiragana only, I would love to see an additional "normal" legends kit beeing run.+1
A few questions:1) I guess not, keeping the base kit balanced between price and compatibility is my intention.
1) Caps Lock has a windowed version. Will there be versions of this for (Scroll) Lock and Num Lock?
2) Will there be accents in the base kit?
3) How's it feel to get US ISO support perfectly right in the first try? :D
4) Depending on feasibility, will you consider separating the base kit in mods and alphas?
5) JIS keyboards have two more alphas (the yen key in R1 between =+ and 1U backspace and the \_ R4 key between /? and 1.75U right Shift). Given the shortened right Shift is already in the base kit, would the addition of the necessary three keys (yen, 1U bacspace and \_) be under consideration. In my case, I don't care either way, but would be good for others to know for certain what the designer decides will be the case.

Wut. Hiragana doesn't make sense for this theme. At all.
Enjoyed it a lot. I'm a fan of the Camping set
Are you still going to run the GMK Camping R2 or this is already the R2?

Even tho I already got R1 of camping, I‘d buy the whole set just because of the green iso enter! Please leave this in and not just add the accented one as there was in R1. :)
Really excited about the hiragana legends and in general looking forward to this (also to the new novelty keys, since I love the ones from R1 already especially because they are kinda suble, fit perfectly and are not all that „in your face-y“ as they are in a lot of sets!)
Alpha keypora or golden star velite collab would be awesome. Also 40s kit please!
these responses remind me of GMK Serika's IC :-X
I like it just like it is, though hoping for some accents too. Asking about sublegends/alt language legends is always going to be a mixed bag and you're always going to get people going "I don't like them, make it normal". Don't bother paying attention to those cause they're obviously not your demographic for this set now are they. The conclusion people should make is that if you even changed the name to suit the subs/alt legends, that's what the set is going to be.
I've got an open box/untouched set of R1 I'll be seeing about throwing for sale in anticipation of this one since I'm a sucker for sublegends of any kind. So there's at least one more set in circulation soon for those looking for plain alphas.
Not personally a huge fan of hiragana on this set - would be awesome if you at least offered a OG Alphas kit if it's not going to be in the base.

definitely buy one.+1 can‘t be too much
please give us more novelties.
I was contacted by vendors and ppl regarding a rerun of Camping, but I don't really want to rerun the set with the same stuff of r1.I respect and relate to your reason to not run the same kits again and you have my full support on it. Really looking forward to the new novelties since that's what truly makes the Camping magic imo. But I'm gonna pray for hiragana only kit if sublegends wins.
So I thought why not take Camping to Japan this time? 10+ new novelty legends are created, nothing to do with yuru camp, pure about doing a camping in Japan.
Camping Cadet when?

Will you please add some R4/1.5U Novelties in it? So that I can adopt them in my hhkb . And WKL layout can also be beneficial from it.
Any estimates for launch?

Just so you are aware, I don't think they're is a 1.25u spacebar or 1.75u spacebar mold. The 1.75u one I'm less confident about though. That being said, I'd love to see them in the future!
Not a fan of the flower petals on the R3 modifiers. Much too feminine and too much "in your face" for a 2.25U modifiers.

Not me. I don't fine them "feminine" (and I'm a brutish, coarse guy). I think they're meant to evoke the sense of a "trail" one would walk on while camping; if that's the case, a few blades of grass might make the idea clearer (but WDIKAA).

I know it wasn't a part of R1 but any chance for a ANSI Enter in the SP Color RBC? I'll still be getting the novelties, but considering there's the ISO Enter in that color doesn't seem so far fetched to ask for the same.

i feel the same, flowers looks weird in this set. i would like to see it be a campfire. please consider my words.

A campfire will not fit on a 2.75u key because the artwork has to be flat for that size.
The campfire key in GMK Camping has some historical meaning related to the camp group, hence I don't really want to recreate another one, sorry.

野营, chinese for camping
In Japanese, camping is actually a loanword and is spelled in katakana ala キャンプ(する).

This has been brought up a couple of times but I've yet to see a response; would you consider adding novelty arrow keys? The compass arrow inspired arrow keys from R1 really left an impression and I'd love to see them return or see a new design entirely.

I've been thinking about that, but the thing is, the compass arrows are something unique in r1.
I don't want to touch the arrows unless I have better/different inspirations or receive better/different ideas.
Simply recreate another shape of the compass arrows is meaningless imo, in that case I better leave it in r1.
Many are asking for just a rerun of R1, which I always find boring, so I definitely enjoy this kind of attitude. This has been brought up a couple of times but I've yet to see a response; would you consider adding novelty arrow keys? Again really sad that i missed R1 - would also really love to see the arrows. Try to think of an japanese alternative ;)
As i again looked into R1 novelty enter - maybe reconsider mount fuji
Otherwise top new noveltys like the rice and knife most of all, great the be ready for R2 :thumb:

I'd like to see some of the row 1 novelties moved down to r4, but that may be a minority opinion. I'd rather have more novelties on my bottom row than my top, especially if it's a 65% board or smaller. As my keyboard @ work (where this set will be used) is a 108 board, I‘m super happy with many R1 keys.

You can still have it for the same price.
Imagine this: A normal non-split kit would be $135. But if you split it up, the price could now be: Base price is $100. Then the numbpad is $35.
Makes sense? And everyone saves $35 who don't need a numbpad.

GMK doesn't work like that. Splitting the num pad will not reduce the price significantly. In fact, it will increase the total price if you want to have both.
Reason is because GMK has a full automatic process, splitting kits will increase their workload. Unlike SP, they have a semi-automatic process, also the reason most SP sets are ran in child kits but GMK sets are mostly ran in all-in-one base.

- On a set that may have a harder time reaching MOQ anyway, if a separate numpad kit doesn't hit it can cause a significant withdrawal of base kit orders, what usually happens to orders with ISO kitsWhat? I agree with keeping the numpad in the base, especially for smaller group buys (everyone pays ~$15 more instead of numpad bros paying $40 or skipping the buy, and also it makes it easier to resell the set later. If this wasn't in an established colorway, I'd argue in favor on putting the novelties in the base kit like Bento did as.

But this hobby is so full of cash right now that even Handerbeit hit MOQ and this set is based on one of the most hyped sets (that everyone regrets not buying the first time), so it'll hit the 750 mark easily unless it faces particularly tough competition. If the numpad can't hit MOQ with the amount of expected base kit sales, people just really don't want it.

In the meanwhile, I'm trying something that's the same as the compass arrows but slightly different and fits the theme.

Handarbeit hitting MOQ is not a metric to grade the market by. Handarbeit was an anomaly fueled by a rather aggressive marketing campaign on multiple fronts.
That being said, I agree that such a hyped set will have no problem hitting moq and this is certainly a case that screams "no numpad"
However the precedent it may set (along with 9009) is that sets have to remove numpads to remain competitively priced and succeed is fairly unnerving. These sets releasing without numpads may be a bad sign going forward for numpad users, as trends very may easily sweep the numpad under the rug for a while.
... and THAT being said, I still hate the numpad.
get rid of it bois
Looks awesome, I'm definitely in!
Haven't read through the rest of the thread, so it might've already been mentioned, but would you consider adding a red esc / enter to the base kit? Would match what a lot of other gmk sets usually include.

Sound good, I love to have another red horizontal red enter button just like many other set but look at the base set bro, it is way too big now.
Personally, I don't think we need both symbol and word on mods button, how about removing word and leave the symbol on mods buttons

Is there any chance of minimal 40s keys for this set? i.e. 175 Enter, 125 Tab, R2 Escape. That'd be it.
Or, for ortho, you can check in with GMK Minimal for the smolest ortho kit.
Often 40s compat gets lost in the dust with some of the smaller keycap sets that come out but I can't imagine a Camping off-shoot to miss MOQ on any kits within reason.
I like thes idea, ambiguous legends are so much nicer than 4 escape keys and 2 tab keys (and cheaper too)Is there any chance of minimal 40s keys for this set? i.e. 175 Enter, 125 Tab, R2 Escape. That'd be it.

Yes, would also love to see 40's support, if at the very least just 40's ortho.
Since your spacebar kit already has a 2u bar, you'd only need 4, 1u keys:
R2: Out
R3: Data or Read
R4: Enter and Shift
Optional, but nice to have would be 2, 1u convex keys.
Thanks for considering!

I wish Japanese sublegend alphas were a separate kit. If not, then please offer a separate kit of alphas without the sublegends.
I like everything else though
As many have already stated, I would like to have an alphas kit without the hiragana sub legends.
Apart from that the novelties look really good!

Camping was popular enough in both GMK & SA that I'm sure we'll see another round of one or the other sooner than later. So don't get to worked up about no mono legend alphas with this set guys!

No. I'm not. I'm thinking that the concept is well represented enough in the Novelties.
I lived in Japan.
I can type in Japanese. The sublegends aren't pleasant looking to me--they're too busy without being functional.
Just something I've been wondering:
How much support do Japanese people give towards Hiragana or Katakana sublegends?
GMK sets don't have foreign sublegends because the designers want to offer a keyset to that demographic (in this case towards Japanese), they have sublegends because people think they are cool. So the question is not "how much support do Japanese people give" but "how much support do keyboard people give".

I understand that. It was just something I've been wondering--an aside.
I'm sure people will support this set, regardless.
I just feel it would look better--cooler--while still presenting a Japanese theme without the sublegends.

Like I said before...This one has hiragana sublegends because I think it looks good and balances the legends on the surface for GMK sets..
I think designing keysets is pretty important to stick with what you think it's cool, you don't want to run a set that you will regret in the future..
But I'm considering offer the latin alphas as a separated kit if there is enough demand for that.
Not my initial idea for this run, but I do listen...
It’s your GB, but I still prefer it when a GB is not run by a committee and avoids straying from the designer’s original direction.GMK sets don't have foreign sublegends because the designers want to offer a keyset to that demographic (in this case towards Japanese), they have sublegends because people think they are cool. Remember, those of us who are happy with JP sublegends have no reason to speak out, so you’ve only been hearing from the upset crowd.
good point - would prefer both ;) if just one ... don‘t know if accent color or notPlease don‘t replace the green ISO enter with the accented one! :(
Ditto to this sentiment. This came up in the IC for the original GMK camping as well - ISO and numpad users are being forced to use the accent colors now that the normal mod colors have been removed for ISO and numpad return keys. The accents are great, but the set still looks fantastic without them. Please bring back the green ISO and numpad return.

I'd also like to say, I don't really care much about the idea of offering a separate kit for mono English alphas, as long as it doesn't change the base kit to allow people to buy the set without the hiragana legends. My knee-jerk reaction was to be a bit peeved since you said GMK Camping would never be offered again during the original IC, but after thinking about it a bit I really don't care. It's a popular set for a reason, and I think it would be wrong to begrudge people for wanting it. But at the very least they should be contributing towards hitting MOQ and reducing the price of the intended base kit.

I cut the green ISO enter and numpad enter in this revision because the pricing was a little bit higher than I have expected.
I'll see if this revision makes a decent reduce of the pricing for the base kit, if not, I'll consider adding the green enters back.
If I'm going to do a separated Latin alpha kit, it is not to impact the Hiragana base, as that's the initial purpose of this run.
Ppl who choose the Hiragana base can skip the Latin alphas, we'll drop the Latin alphas if it fails.
Thanks for the clarifications! One last little nitpick that I just noticed: The numpad enter says "Enter" rather than "Return" like the other ones.
Thanks for the clarifications! One last little nitpick that I just noticed: The numpad enter says "Enter" rather than "Return" like the other ones.
Return comes from Carriage Return (CR), the command to begin a new line (and the term stemming from typewriters where the Carriage would Return to the start of the line). While the Enter on the Numpad 'enters' whatever equation you just typed in. While they may do the same thing when you are in Notepad, system wise they have different tasks.

Not just that, but in older terminal keyboards, Return and Enter were different keys, a distinction that has largely been lost nowadays. Return would simply jump to a new line, while Enter would "complete" the input and tell the computer to execute the command that had just been given (which may, indeed, have been typed into one line or more). Nowadays, Enter does both, and if one wants to do an "enterless" Return, Shift-Enter is generally available in whatever text window the user is on at the moment (chat windows are the prime example of this).

If a second alphas kit does get offered, I do suggest adding a second tab for the second alphas kit. This way the extra mods and the unused alphas can be used for a second board without having them sit in the tray. If not then I don't feel like a second tab is needed, but I just don't want so many keys to be unused if a second alphas kit does get added.

For that matter, add a second Homeby the Seakey and with it plus an extra set of arrows, that 60% could be made into a 65% as well.

I don’t think you need the spacebar in the Latin alphas but other than that looks great! Really looking forward to the GB :)
A Hiragana kit and latin alphas in the main base kit would make more sense in my opinion. This way camping r1 owners can own both alphas without having to buy the whole base kit. I also think more people prefer the latin to hiragana. :thumb:You guys just won the battle convincing kingnestea to include a latin alpha kit.

You do if you want to use the alphas with mods from another set. Granted, your layout options will be limited.

Valid point. Either way, it should be 6.25/7u both included or neither, seems silly just to provide one.

Since Latin alphas will be provided, I'm renaming this to Camping r2 which is more logical and to avoid confusions in the future.

This is great! But wouldn't it make sense to have latin alphas in the base, and hiragana sub-legends in a separate kit? That way, R1 owners can get the hiragana kit and new novelties, without buying the other base kit keys. And for the rest of us who find latin alphas boring and prefer hiragana?

Goddamn, I hope OP wouldn't cave to these R1 buyers' demands again. Camping In Japan was such a great theme and should not be squandered by this sort of committee design.

my info might be outdated, but when I last checked with GMK they only offered japanese sublegends if the alphas were part of the core kit, not an addon kit (that would have to be kobe as an addon).
Someone correct me if this has changed since I checked with them :)

Pretty sure that's currently not the case, I don't see why they would prohibit that. Maybe that was back when the legends weren't made yet and it made it cost prohibitive or so?
I have to say that, now that this is camping r2, I would prefer latin alphas in the base kit and the hiragana in an add on kit.

Are you referring to a hiragana kit like gmk vaporwave had?
If you read through the whole thread, Hiragana was the initial intention of this run.
And since it is Japan themed, Hiragana makes more sense in the base.
A separated Latin alphas kit is the last thing I can do for those who prefer Latin alphas.

Thanks :D that's the kit and looks like my info is indeed outdate (was a year ago). I found that weird that GMK refused to run a kit with japanese sublegends but I'm glad they came back on their idea :D
Suggestion: make the numpad a separate kit to lower base kit price
people just want to buy GMK Camping r1 at GB price, lol
should have keep this as Camping In Japan.
kingnestea, people will keep complaining until you put the latin alpha in the base, same for separating the the numpad.
I think you should change this IC back to "Camping In Japan" and remove the latin alpha kit.

I do agree that people are just trying to get a 2nd run of the original Camping set, but there's no point in trying to stop that IMO. The people who already bought R1 are less likely to buy this, so it's pretty important to get the people who missed out before on board now.
I would fall into the silent majority. I know that you're still sticking with your original intention but I decide to leave a comment because apparently not voicing your opinion during IC does affect the outcome of the GB.
I don't find that it was necessary for you to change the IC to GMK Camping R2. I think the Camping in Japan theme is really cute and fun. By offering latin alpha kit, it already satisfied the possible buyers who want them and a win-win situation for current design of the base kit. Obviously it means latin buyers would be paying more but I'm sure current base kit + alpha kit comes out less than the aftermarket price of current existing GMK Camping. And thinking positively if this GB barely meets MOQ because people decide to pass it for not having latin alpha in base, I'm sure it will end up being in a high demand keyset (a bad comparison, but look at Bento :))).
I missed out on the first round. I'm in luck though because I prefer Gaijin aesthetically anyway! Count me in.
Also, would love a 1u shift in the base kit!
Probably ortho, in which case getting the Novelties would be a better idea.I missed out on the first round. I'm in luck though because I prefer Gaijin aesthetically anyway! Count me in.

Could I request the numpad area with arrow sub-legend together with number 2,4,6,8.
I found some GMK set have this sub legend, but GMK Camping row 1 dont have it.
The vendors currently are

EU: mykeyboard.eu
Asia/China: zFrontier
Base will be at $115 for 500MOQ on Novelkeys, the rest has to be sorted out with the vendors.
The artwork for the Rama cap is finalized, I still have to decide for the color so that they can make me a render.Show Image(https://imgur.com/YbpZGtP.jpg)
This what I have at the moment, what do you think about a maroon brass cap with beige legend?
The vendors currently arered glow in the dark would really fit with campfire optics :)

Any chance there will be another price drop at 750 or 1000 MOQ? With the way sets have been selling lately, and the enthusiasm for this particular set (i definitely slept on it the first time), i think this is gonna sell pretty well. I'm really looking forward to it.

what happened with GMK metropolis and novelkeys when the base cleared 1000 sets was that nephlock and novelkeys got...~8 keys added to the base-accent color arrows, a compatibility shift, something else for the same price. Emir/kono got an extra key for GMK Nines as well (the IX/IX key mid left here https://i.imgur.com/rLdz1AL.png) when MOQ was 250? but they got to 400-some base. so 1000 sets (totally possible!) might yield a perk.
the real value is the solid base price. there's other kits running in October that don't have numpads that are gonna be more than 115$

What about base+latin alphas?
Kingnestea already made next month very expensive for me, now he threw a RAMA cap to make it even more expensive. Please have mercy on me... and I usually don't even care for them.

Why every set post Laser has to have hiragana alphas in it is beyond me. I guess this set is great for Yuru Camp fans, and I wish it luck. I'll hold out for a re-run of the original gmk set or just pick it up on the aftermarket I guess.

I don't know about the other sets, but hiragana was the reason why I decided to do a re-run. The r1 GMK Camping will never happen again.
And I'm not a Yuru Camp fan, didn't even know what it is until ppl brought it up here.

Has that been confirmed? I *just* got an email from Kono this morning regarding re-running a popular set and Camping was one of the first options listed.

Would anyone be interested in buying the japanese alphas only from this kit?

Any idea how much the spacebar kit would go for?$28 on Novelkeys
Is there a green enter key for the numpad that is not included in the final kits, but can be seen in the renders? Was the green enter key for the numpad cut from final production? The green enter key for ISO and numpad are cut during development.
Curious question as a newbie, will it end on 2359 hours on the 25th or on the 24th 2359 hrs? I was thinking of waiting for my paycheck to arrive lol.All sets are unlimited till the end of the GB
Also, will certain sets be unavailable once they reach MOQ or its unlimited till the end of the GB?
All sets are unlimited till the end of the GB
I haven't thought about your first question tbh....I guess different vendors will conclude the GB randomly on the 25th...
