Alright, that's absolutely beautiful. Will this and the Arc80 both happen?

Does this mean that the Arc80 project that you were collaborating with Demo Studio/Old Cat is dead? https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=100816.0

Been waiting for this! Looks so good! I hope there are more plate options this time around for your next keyboard! Fr4 is awesome but a polycarbonate or aluminum plate would be amazing as well!

The branding on the back seems like a lot. But otherwise it's interesting

+1 the font seems too large / unfinished / out of place?

Agree the branding is a bit aggressive, sometimes less is more.

I mean the board would be objectively better with an F13 key.

Can I ask why?

Also, not a fan of the graystudio on the back. I feel like any of your other brandings would work better, if not blank. Great looking board though, even with my subjective opinion on that.

Would there be any chance of bluetooth on this board as well? I would really love to indulge my partner with this board. Also, not really a fan of the all around LED strip. Like lube, less is more, the LEDs on space65 were very tasteful, but it seems abit too much here. I agree that the graystudio logo at the back does kinda look out of place too.

Looking forward to more color renders!!

I was on the fence with the "amount going on" with the space65 CV, but have kinda regret skipping the GB. Hopped on the Think 6.5v2 first thing to heal those wounds too haha.

that being said, the Apollo takes that design language and spreads it out a bit more, and I think it works so well as a WKL TKL. This board is beautiful.

definitely in for the WKL.

Please consider commissioning a matching wrist rest in mixed materials like wood and resin and in matching colours.  I would love a matching rest for this keyboard so much and I honestly think it is the one thing that keeps being forgotten about.

I cant say no to a space themed tkl but some feedback would be changing the logo to be a more clear "Apollo". Second again that graystudio logo on the back is not really my thing.

I can live with the rgb strip going around.

I actually like the logo quite alot. It's not meant to spell out Apollo.
I'd rather not have any brand explicitly shown on the surface of my keyboard. It looks tacky.
Which is why you don't see any high end boards with their brand name spelt out on top of the board.
You'll only see mass market keyboards like logitech, corsair with their branding. Does it look nice?
I vote for the present logo. Please no lettering.

Yes, it is meant to spell out Apollo. Lmao. Is that not obvious?
TGR, Exclusive, Lin Works, and Gray Studio have all produced keyboards with branding on the top, and there are plenty more out there.

I didn't say branding itself on the surface is tacky. What matters is the presentation.
Exclusive, very small minimal look that it doesn't take away from the clean look.
Space65 doesn't any branding. Think boards do but it doesn't say 'THINK6.5'
I don't know which TGR keyboard you're looking at but Jane doesn't have any branding.
Linworks is the only board that the branding more prominent but even then it's really not because it's engraved so that it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.
What I meant by explicit branding is, actually having the name of the board displayed. For instance, Vega having the word "VEGA"
Space65 with the word "space65"
It's not obvious that they wanted to "spell out the word" or else they would have spelt out the word Apollo LMAO.
I think they are aware that nobody will think 000()0 looks like apollo.
It's a design choice, and there's no intention to spell out the word.
Clearly people who have no background with brand design shouldn't judge it as deal breaker.
With the above logic, Mcdonalds golden arches is a bad choice because it doesn't spell out "McDonalds"
Tesla's "T" is a bad choice because it doesn't spell "Tesla"

I think we agree that the current logo is good, and partially because "apollo" is only readable upon close inspection. I'm not going to get into a general argument about branding/design, but I do agree that: 1) any branding needs to be tasteful, and 2) the subtle look of the five slightly-modified circles is as far as branding should go on the Apollo. :thumb:

For the sake of accuracy, though, I will point out that your comment on TGR is laughable because nearly ALL TGR keyboards produced have explicit branding on top. Jane V1, Jane V2, Jane V2 CE, and Alice with a bold "TGR" on them (the Alice being literally the most popular keyboard of the past two years lmao). And then the TGR 910 straight up says "910" on top. All of these boards are stunners, even with very explicit branding. But I'll chalk up your comment up to your newness here.  ;D

Ah, ok I couldn't see the branding on TGR because they are engraved.
It actually looks really nice.
I just had a design idea. They could have the RGB visible through 000()0 instead and maybe have tiny strips of RGB beside them.
Something like this:

-- 000()0 --

Of course, the logo would have to be bigger to let the RBG through.....
I don't know if that would look better than the current design, but it would be cool to see RGB through the logo.

Does anyone know if Grey Studios has a 75% layout that is similar in style?

Wondering what price will be for the Space80. But would love to see this is 75%.

Our Space80-APOLLO Logo

Hello keyboard friends, it has been several busy months producing and shipping Space65 CyberVoyager as well as producing Think6.5v2. Now that the shipping for Space65 CyberVoyager is completed (some Schrodinger orders still with DHL queue, please email me if you don't receive within 2 weeks), and the Think6.5 V2 production is progressing along very well (still projecting shipping around CNY 2021), it is time for me to start the Interest Check for the second keyboard of the Gray Studio Space series keyboard: Space80:APOLLO, the first 80% TKL layout customized keyboard from Gray Studio.

Show Image

The inspiration for the Space series come from the mankind’s audacious exploration of the outer world, which has significantly influenced me since childhood. Interestingly, Space65 was actually the latest design I had but was first to hold a group buy, and Space80 was designed earlier than Space65, and now it is finally time to bring it to you. And I think it is a good idea to take the time to finetune the design and bring the best to you.

Space80 project started in 2018 and went through many iterations, Space65 and Space80 share similar the design language – a relatively thicker top piece and thinner side profile. The Space80 design looks a bit different, to create more dynamics. And the top piece features cuts like orbits, and I added a badge to the top of the arrow keys. It serves as a RGB light strip, and it can also become a Capslock indicator. The middle layer again features some cool light effects, following the Space series theme.

Show Image

Further, given we have successfully implemented a top notch typing feel gasket design for Think6.5 V2, we decided to include a gasket design on the Space80 as well. We will be sending prototypes to streamers for live stream builds and typing tests. And similar to Think6.5V2, the plate for the Space80 will be using FR4 material.

Show Image

Below are some design images. The board has went through several iterations of prototypes and will be sent to streamers soon.

I am sure at this point there is still some room for improvement. Please kindly let me know your thought if you will be interested in this, and your suggestions for the GB and the design. Thank you. If you would like to chat in Discord, here is the link: https://discord.gg/WhCcbyzn9z

Plus 1 for replacing Graystudio logo with "Space80” or "Apollo"

Also, backlighting would be nice or even perkey RGB.

Excellent design and specs though, prefer a 65% but this has me very interested
