One question for shipping methods:
Weight based shipping = Can track
Flat rate = Can't track
?
Sorry that I'm still new to this  :-[

How many would you need for another plate option? I was thinking HHKB layout with full 1.5 1 1.5 7 1.5 1 1.5 bottom layout. You might want to change the default HHKB layout to that anyways since most people will probably rather put a blocker there instead of having a hole all the way down to the plate.

You have to desolder all switches and any LEDs to replace the plate.

I imagine an Alps-cutout plate (WKL1.75) has about zero chance in a hundred or more?

I've already bought myself some ALPs switches, or I'd get in on this. Good luck with the GB, and boy do I wish I was made of money!

Wait what? Does the "Poker" plate not fit a Poker 2?

For the first Poker, it looks like the design that's posted will work. But for the Poker II, it doesn't look like it has the cut out for the caplocks indicator LED. The LED was part of the capslock switch on the Poker, whereas on the Poker II, it has it's own separate standoff. I'm curious about the horizontal cut out where the spacebar is as well. The Poker II has 2 LEDs, right next to each stabilizer in the spacebar area. Judging by the plate design, the horizontal cut out is too high for the Poker II and metal would sit on top of the LEDs. The first Poker doesn't have LEDs where the spacebar area is. A slightly adjusted design would have to be made for a replacement plate for the Poker II.

if you desolder the caps lock LED and put a different one inside the switch instead of beside the switch, this plate should work with poker 2. your going to have to desolder your board anyway to replace the plate, would take a couple seconds to get that led off.
Title: Re: Anodized aluminum alloy plate for GH60/Poker GB
Post by: eyesmiles on Fri, 29 November 2013, 18:15:12
You'd have to desolder the 2 LEDs by the 2 spacebar stabilizers on Poker II as well. Then it'd fit.

If you do this, would that LED only go on when caps lock is on? For example, if I took a stock Poker 2, would I be able to add an LED on the caps lock switch (that would always be on) in addition to the one beside the caps lock?

if the PCB works the way it looks yes, though I only own a poker x. like all keyboards I suggest a flat top or square led. I mean if it were my keyboard I would just find a loose led and touch the contacts under the switch to confirm lol.

you can open up the switches without desoldering correct, it says so in the first post and is shown visually in the pictures. you still have to de/solder to install the plate.

Yes that is the idea, to wire solder the matrix rather than pcb mount the underside.

Not sure what you mean by "I think it works but not reliable".  Do you think it may work but are not sure, or do you think it works but it won't hold the keys solidly enough?

PS - not unduly worried as if it is not stable enough I will use it in another project :-)

Standard poker X (1) yes because the switches are PCB mount, minus the one's with LED's.

Standard Poker 2 no.

I suppose that will mean taking out and putting back in all switches, correct?

Yes, you will have to desolder all of the switches to change the plate.  Once you have changed the plate, you will be able to remove the switch covers without desoldering with this new plate...

Why doesn't the hhkb plate support the 1.5 mods on both sides?

I would think it would be a benefit. There would be more options, just in case.

Also, the pink option is still not available on the website. I don't want pink personally but it looks like it should be there.

On the site you have a gh60 layout listed. Is that the universal plate or the max keys layout?
Pic of the layout?

When I was checking on this, I assumed it was the max key layout: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=41464.msg828888#msg828888

Is this the gh60?

It's not amongst the legends but would like to put together a handy 60% for coding and multiple levels.

Would love relegate the backspace functionality down to the wider (hideous) \| and combine it with delete.  Replace the original backspace with 2 keys for the ~` and \| leaving the mighty <esc> unlayered.

Although i did have to cancel the pcb mounted stabs, ever since it's been listed as cancelled.
I'll give it a couple more weeks before trying a pm or anything drastic

Finally got the time to attach the plate. This being the first time desoldering switches ended up really taxing the patience and frustration. Took way longer than I had expected and was really miffed not getting it done during Saturday. Might be a bunch of other first-timers are doing this too but it's just to keep calm, add more solder and keep trying to find where that solder is stuck invisible to see even with a magnifier. But I persevered and finally succeeded removing the plate.

Some flaws in the design that I noticed:
1) The cutout for the Caps lock LED is a bit off. It fits but just barely.
More

2) The Poker II has two leds under the spacebar that do not fit through the too slim gap in this custom plate.
Compare the original and the custom:
More
(http://i.imgur.com/vHnGc5t.jpg)

The original plate puts the LEDs there:
More
(http://i.imgur.com/bdkWwsO.jpg)

But I just love this. Wish the Tex plate had a deeper red but it works and definitely shows through the keycaps.

Having done this now I am not certain I wish to to this again with a Ducky Mini as it has LEDs everywhere. They are truly horrible trying to desolder as the holes are so tiny it's a tight fit from the start. As it's difficult to get all the solder off they end up sticking to the plate unless you apply heat and pull at the same time. It's _difficult_ to pull and apply heat to both legs at the same time... Any tips are greatly appreciated.

I have to say this mod has given me so much more affection for the keyboard. I find my eyes wandering to it, watching how the plate shows between the keys and contrasts against the red case. So, so satisfied and even proud of doing this. The desoldering difficulties definitely adds to those feelings.

He said he received my order. And that it was in process for anodizing about a month ago.

For some reason, I didn't fully believe him. I ordered a little later in the GB than I wanted so I think I may have been kick off the list. :(

I'll try Pm'ing him again to make sure.

Is there any way to get one of these anymore? I know the GB has been closed for a while, but I figured it's worth asking.

I may have one of these or a GH60 (from that group buy) plate available.  What layout are you looking for?

Poker preferably. Doing a Miami themed poker, and want one of these to re-anno. It's the best plate I've found. Never thought I'd get my hands on a Miami set, and now I have one, soooo... lol

This will fit a standard poker 2 layout, yes? If so, PM me, and I'm sure we can work something out.

I posted in the other thread but it looks like its dead.

Picked up my plates today. A pure plate and a poker 2 plate.

Imsto said they both would be compatible and neither of them fit.

The pure plate doesn't have a cutout for the caps lock led and the poker 2 plate does not have the cutout for the 2 LEDs beside the space bar.

I'm not understanding why imsto said the plates would support these keyboards, because they simply do not.

Any suggestions? Should I go to a machine shop and have them modify them? Or should I Desolder the LEDs? Is this even possible?

We he said pure plate, instead of plate for KBT Pure, I think what he really meant is Pure layout plate. It's a bit surprising that poker 2 plate does not have cutout for LEDs though, cuz I think the LED question was brought up very early in this post.

What's the color of your Poker 2 plate? If you decide to get rid of it, I would be happy to take it off your hand depending on the color.

So if I buy the Poker 2 version, will it work for my Poker 2 pcb?

Or, is this just for the GH60?
poker2 version is the exact verion for poker2 not for gh60,   poker version is the one for gh60.
what's the meaning?
How long do we have to order?

Quote from imsto saying the Poker 2 is the exact version for the Poker 2 ^

I find this very misleading considering I now have to remove LEDs for the plate to fit. Imsto what's the deal with this?

Also by the logic that a "Poker 2" plate was for a poker 2, I assumed the "Pure" plate would be for the pure.

But no^ I'm going to keep them, I would just like to hear what imsto has to say about this. I ordered these plates when I had little knowledge about keyboards, going by imstos word that the Poker 2 plate is compatible with it.

Edit: How would the caps lock LED work on a pure / poker 2 if you were to desolder the original LED and add one to the switch. Would it always stay on?

@stancato9
For Poker2,
If you solder led on the switch, it will light up when u enable backlit system by pressing FN+V.
If u solder on the led hole besides the capslock, it will light up for indicating capslock are on/off.

Yeah. I did that and now I have no visual indication of when caps lock is on. Which is really crappy.

It's kind of obvious as soon as you type anything. :P

But sure, it's a flaw in the design that some LEDs are not possible to fit. Caps if any should be as that's one of the few that has the necessary cutout:

Pexon's ongoing group buy is for a low profile case. Extras have been popping up randomly as people cancel last minute (he just started invoicing), so of you camp the thread you might be able to grab one at the pretty-awesome GB price of $60 + shipping.

The Pexon/Vortex case looks like a metal cast version of the standard plastic case. I wouldn't call that low-profile. Low-profile to me would be the Tex 60% or the Pure LE.

My guess is aluminum. Hammer offers different anodizing color options just like last round. So I guess everything is the same but just in universal layout?
