Re: [GB] TX1800 (Housing, PCB, Parts, Keycaps) [mass-produce sample finished]
« Reply #700 on: Thu, 30 April 2015, 19:11:34 »

I'm back.  ;D
My busy job was finished yesterday.
(95% of my students got A grade in 'technology', I taught LED, diode, transistor... and machine)

I have received TX1800 housing and plates ( also 3000 plates) last week.
because i was busy, i couldn't check them.
for yesterday and today... I checked all parts.

But..

I can't satisfied the quality.  :(
(although I'm not a strict person)
the fault was made by jig trace.

I will discuss with factory about these problems again.

so.. I apologize to you for my delaying.

tx1800 housing will be delayed.

I will pack for 1800 and 3000 Plate and PCB applicants.

Here are some pictures.

What happens to the cases that are rejected?
My guess is melted down and reused?
Not directly, but sold as scrap by the factory to a metal scrap facility, who will melt it down into standard-sized billets and sell to foundries which produce the more common cast or extruded stock, the kind of stuff the factory buys to make keyboard cases and such. It's the circle of life!

There goes my plan to buy a case cheaper.

Doh. :)

Note that I'm not involved in this project, just speculating based on 8 years of CNC aluminum manufacturing experience.

Most vendors want the bad parts back to recoup some cost from the scrap, and to make sure you're not trying to rip them off for extra pieces.

Sounds legit to me.

I was wondering if it was a "scratch and dent" scenario.
Given that its aluminum and easily recycled, sending it back to be recast makes sense.

Doh. :)

When you consider that Kin25 is not charging for time spent and lost on the re-making of casings, due to manufactured errors plus waiting for those corrections, this is STILL a very cheap all aluminum 1800 styled case.

Pink is so bad.
But red is good enough.
I made 4 pink and 5 red to check anodizing quality.
I will send them to factory and change 9 red or more.
If you want red one.. Just let me know..
(there is a chance to chage color)

I have no plan to make pink tx1800.

Anodizing problems are hard to fix and make me crazy.

For tx87.. I plan to make various colors.
I'm looking for other method.

Kin25, if you are looking at doing other colours then why not consider doing Orange, Purple, Brown and Dark Green ?

Ki, the housing looks great!

Could you please show us some samples of LEDs with different resistors? I still need to decide on which diodes to ask you to help me solder :)

Suspect Kin25 is busy working on all 50 keyboards SO everything regarding "REGULAR" forum posts has to be suspended.  Otherwise spending time here on Geekhack can cause a time rift which slips on by without anyone noticing it, until they look at their watches.

Would rather hear nothing from him until he actually finishes everyone's keyboards, then you'll watch everyone's panties drop at the sight of these new creations  8) .

Same here, for a crusty old mollusc such as myself, the wait is sometimes unbearable so I know your feelings well, especially since it's your first time being involved with a Group Buy.

Like all Virgins you need to take a deep breath and expect something huge and wondrous to invade your inner sanctum, your holy of holies, your last frontier because after this Group Buy - you shall never be the same again  :thumb: .

I am sorry for late update.
One month ago...
Tx1800 were made..
But I found some scratches.
So I told the factory to made new again.
(I paid for scatched housing all with 75% price, I didn't want fix them)
The factory tried to find cause of error.
They changed material and fixed.
Tx1800 housing are in the anodizing factory.
Next week the housing will be made.
And.. I will check them carefully.
If there is no problem.
I will start shipping.

In korea.. May is family month.
I had more time with family.
I leased warehouse and moved my keyboards
(not finished.. too many to move)
I lost some parts.. And I ordered to make again. :(

When I was free..
I prepared some parts for tx1800.

Oh.. Tx87 pcb was made also.
But I have no time to test. :(

I opened JT leycaps GB in Korea for chinese friend.
It was finished.(It was not difficult)

And..
Lin3 is making keycaps.
He changed print and film to improve quality.
So it took many times.

I didn't know that housing GB was very difficult.
Many things made trouble and  it took a lot of times.

Thank you for waiting for a long time.

Good to see you back Kins, hope you were able to spend some quality time with family!
