Battlestation 10 - Novelty Wrist Rests & Caps *Summer Update
« on: Wed, 26 August 2015, 17:07:20 »

**Summer UPDATE**

Hey GH, This month I have some novelty spacebars available.

All palm rests styles + custom orders are also in stock! More non-custom styles coming soon. 1x novelty caps also available, please contact me if you are looking for a certain style.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My goal when I first started was to make a wrist rest that doesn't get permanently dirty or damaged after just a couple months of use. Whether the wrest is made of wood or cloth, this always seems to be a problem. As you all know, a stained/damaged wrist rest can really take away from a beautiful, expensive setup.

I’ve learned even the strongest varnishes and clear coats can be too weak over time or too bothersome to clean. However, with this new method of resin coating, I believe I have solved this problem. The secret is in that unconventional resin surface coating.  I could probably cast caps with the stuff. This new surface coating is antimicrobial and very resistant to dirt so you can easily wipe it off from time to time and it will stay looking shiny and new indefinitely. I just use my thumb to wipe any dirt off.

If you have questions about palm rests and their usage please check out my Wrist/Palm Rest FAQ.

So I've gotten two of these awesome wrist rests from Den441 now, one custom and one with the new bolt purple color way.

I cannot say enough good things about these wrist rests. The stabilized wood feels great and the grain on the pieces he has chosen is really nice. The staining process he uses is really strong and can stand up to the sweatiest of palms.

They feel like they could last a life time if taken care of and they definitely increase desk appeal  :p.

The angle on them is very comfortable and they usable with any angle keyboard.

He also has a ton of other cool products that are worth checking out!

I agree.  The angle and sizing of the rest works well for my typing style.  Got mine in black staining.  :thumb:

Thank you! The silver is really unique. I think you will like it  a lot! I agree about the international shipping. I'm always checking rates from different providers to see if I can get it down, but USPS seems to offer the cheapest intl rates as far as I know. The international priority method you selected is very reliable in my experience and has full tracking, so you can rest assured about that at least. You'll get another email with the tracking when it ships after Christmas.

Thanks! I was inspired by a parking lot puddle with oil in it haha. Thought it would make for a cool effect on a wrist rest. It isn't too over the top which is what I like about it. Also, I am keeping the contest open till Friday, so everyone has until then to get their entry in. I will announce the winners shortly afterward.

Thanks! I love ALPS myself. My favorite clicky switches for sure. Maybe linear too if I ever get to try some green alps someday. The clicky alps just have a snap to them that a clicky mx switch can't compete with. I will share the results of the survey when the giveaway is over. So far though it looks like more people need to try ALPS switches! Those that have tried them seem to like them according to the results so far.

That brownish color spot is actually the glow resin. It glows orange in the dark for a short time if charged with a UV light. This particular piece had a hole right there, so I thought using the glow resin might be a cool novelty on it. I try and release a new batch each month with different colors and elements. Next time I will try and make a couple normal mahogany brown ones. If you don't want to wait though, you can get one made to order for a little extra cost.  You can also choose what kind of maple you want on these (tiger stripe or no tiger stripe).

The Spring Giveaway has concluded! Congrats to the winners - hapns, MarshalCS, and alienman82.

I'm also pleased to announce that I will be releasing a limited edition batch of clicky alps numpads within the next couple months. (This is why ALPS was the theme of the giveaway.) I call them “limited edition” simply because they will use njbair’s Alpine Winter keycaps. I may release more in the future, but they would use different caps.

The numpad will be able to input the proper numpad codes and will be priced competitively at around $50. It uses the Haoyute numpad as a base which some of you may be familiar with. It is a good, cheap alps numpad on it’s own, but the stock caps are terrible. By putting on the Alpine Winter caps and a new label, I believe it turns into a very respectable numpad. The variation of clicky cream alps on them are fantastic, so all they needed was a little facelift. I hope you are will like them! I will take pics as soon as I get the caps from njbair.

Something else that isn't advertised on here, but I personally think is a killer product, is the keyboard stand:

It's inexpensive, easy to assemble, and works well.  Recommended!

Nope, someone just showed me those today though when I posted over on reddit. His have a different look to them with the eyelids as part of them. These are more in the style of dragon eye cabochons which are used in different types of jewelry. The surface is really glossy on them.

Thanks! It's curly or "flame" maple. I have pieces that have a lot of flames and some that look more just like plain maple.

Thanks for the feedback!

I've considered it, but the size of it becomes a factor and it becomes something that I think most people don't have room for on their desk or a side table.  I think the next step if you want to display larger keyboards, or many keyboards, is to just go big and invest in a full-size shelf or cabinet for your collection. Here is an example: https://offermanwoodshop.com/project/typewriter-stand/ Now that is a really expensive custom job, but I know some furniture places out there like ikea have similar pieces with shelves like that and are fairly inexpensive.
