That is an interesting point; I was not aware they shared a different profile than SP's Cylindricals.
The mess-up is not done by the texture but by a messed up SVG graphic. They simply did not use the one we submitted.

I don't know, but most keys came out perfect. The only other option is that they messed up the tool for making the insert part. I've got the suspision they used the version for the reverse color scheme and added the circle around it by themselves.

The cutter probably just didn't do a perfect cut. Looking at those three images, I'd bet they probably went with the middle over the left, but the cutter just had a difficult time doing perfect circles, they've had trouble in the past with curves from what I recall. The thick eye lines come from the cutter following the outside of the black lines, not the inside. It's hard to explain, but if you imagine tracing along the inside edge of the left eye and the outside, instead of cutting within or "on" the black line, you get that halo effect. I would prefer an awesome face in red, but that's just because I don't like yellow lol.

Yeah, I estimate that unless you're buying a ton of keycaps, the small 5 dollar priority USPS box would work for ConUS.

I still think a Meta-key or alt-key version of these would be better, so you can have them separated by the spacebar of injustice, at the bottom of the keyboard, but I'm really interested in them either way.

The original Japanese flag of Round 3 (introduced by myself) had been done using a text-sign (they have circle, square, triangle and diamond), so it was comparaby cheap.
If the legend fees for it aren't significant, then doing the Japan key right would be worth it imo, I agree that the "sun" is far too small to actually be considered as the Japanese flag. It took me a minute to figure out what it was actually supposed to represent, and I'm 1/4 Japanese lol.

Also, the detail involved in the Imperial logo is pretty damn high, so a doubleshot of that might not turn out good at all.

I was just informed by Melissa that unless we modify the Starwars decals she will not make them for us; George Lucas sent a helicopter to SP today to kill off half the staff for even considering it. Whoever desperately wants the Starwars keys to be made will have to modify the SVG's to something a little different and then I will try to convince Melissa to do it (it was her idea in the first place).
If we cannot get the Starwars caps thats fine; this buy was based on the premise of not having them in the first place.

I am not against the idea; if you want to create a vector for one of the leagues we can take a look at it and see if two colors is feasible.
Bronze silver and gold would be doable. So would masters... but diamond, platinum, and GM wouldn't turn out very well, and even then only the basic hexagonal symbols would work. The symbols are just too complex. Believe me I think they would be really cool, I already mulled that one over but didn't suggest it because they simply won't turn out very good in any sort of limited color process. Even as dye subs they wouldn't come out very good I'm pretty sure.

I Think Platinum would turn out ok. But the diamond prob not. and GM maybe. We'll see.

I have done some research regarding copyright infringement and use of "whole or part of an image without permission" is considered infringement. If you were to use your modified graphic on the internet, there are copyright protection programs designed to search out similar images and relay this information to the creator/owner of the image. It is obviously going to be a bit harder with a molded keycap, but none the less, Signature Plastics will be liable in the event someone sues us for infringement. If you guys want to check this out with a copyright or patent attorney and find that it is ok, please forward that information.
As far as the Japanese flag, this won't be a problem, however the image size came across at 4.8611" x 5.0298". I am unclear how this is different than the original design as it is still a circle :). I would need to know the exact size the image should be on the keycap...

Let me see what I can do for you on that. I will look into it more on Monday after the orders open up for this thread and the Spacebar thread I am doing. If you already have the SVG's made then I can send them out sometime this week to see if they are even possible to be made by Doubleshot but I think the only difficult part will be to find people with interest in the set. And, I will reiterate, it has to be a set and not individual keys or the lower leagues will be dead.

Oh, and as a side question, do you know the proper dimensions the Japan flag needs to be on the key? Like, diameter of the circle and then distance from the edges? SP is looking for that so they can finalize the design on their end.
I have no idea how this stuff works. From the quote of the email. I think just tell him how big you want the dot on the key. I guess the very arbitrary resolutions I picked is not the right size IRL (or converted to real sizes). But I guess they should be ok if you tell them how big the dot should be on the flag.
Yea; pretty much. The dot, because its in SVG form, is irrelevant in terms of size. Because it is just a simple shape they need to know the distance from the edges of the key. This partly the reason why the old 'Japan' key had such a small dot: it was just a circle.
If you search japan and go to its wikipedia, the picture of the flag is in svg format. Just click on the flag, then it takes u to the pic on the website, then right click it and open image in new tab. It'll give you the png link. If you take out the .png, the svg is left

If we were going to manufacture these keycaps, and then sell them for a profit, then sure... that's infringement. But this has GOT to be fair use. I mean, would we be having the same problem if we were dealing with the Nike swoosh here? Or is it just paranoia of Lucas and his Gestapo?

Thank you for the additional files. I do however need to know the actual size of the image - there are too many variables on my end to figure out from the edge of the keycap... can you have however drew this to tell me what they want the actual diameter of the circle to be?

Well I think we already have the proportions (the actual Japanese Flag) but we need physical key-mounted measurements so they can alter the design of their dot in the manufacturing process.
A keys is about 150mm in height. The dot's diameter relative to the flag's height is about 2:3.5. So...the dot should be about 85mm. (I used a crappy ruler).

If you can wait till tonight ill measure how bit it should be, 85 mm is massive lol. Like that's 3.3 inches!

6mm for the radius of the circle on the Japan flag. That should be close enough.

That's pretty much the measurement I came up with; 12mm would have been 90% of the key itself. If that is the consensus that everyone wants, a 6mm diameter dot, I will send that in. My measurements come from a rough look using a inch-based ruler and a converter so I am in no way certain.

You may need to get this done with annother buy. But I'll try and do something to the image. I'm just worried about the whiskers being too thin.

That specific image was more of an example, I'm a fairly terrible artist myself, so I had to just find something proper and edit. If you don't mind, you're very welcome to make your own, but initially my post was mostly to check if anyone else was interested (Cats are awesome, so who ain't?).
The original looked like this, but as mentioned, I'm not necessarily interested in this specific art, so long as it's a cat, I'm all happy :3

This has to be done. I'm most certainly in for one. But to my understanding this wouldn't be possible to do with a doubleshot keycap, correct? Regardless, make it happen !

It would be very imporacticle for a doubleshot keycap. It's got way too many colors. Unless you're looking for the outline of Nyancat (but that would just be retarded).
Could this be done with dyesub and would all the multitude of colors make this cost through the roof?
Also, would it truly be nyan cat without the sharp, blocky look?

A dye sub would work for that many colors I'm pretty sure... the only problem would be getting a decent looking svg... I would totally be in for it though!

basically, 2 different rainbow keys, one where it waves up, one where it waves back down, alternate the keys and it looks like a rainbow trail!

The SVG doesn't need the lines for the pixels, since the size of the thing is way too small to be able to see the lines between them... it'd probably just mess it up somehow knowing how complicated the process is.
I fear we won't be able to get enough people in on this to make it worthwhile. But a nyancat number/function row would be epic as hell.

Uhh... probably quite a bit, since they'd have to be several different sizes and the quantity for each size would be relatively low. It'd be 3 figures I'm pretty certain.

If you wanted to not do modifiers I'd imagine it'd be a fair amount cheaper... and if you wanted to just use all row 4 keycaps (instead of row 1 2 3 and 4) you could just use the existing keycap and that'd be pretty cheap, you'd just order a ton of them from one of the group buys.
I would like 2 "Escaping w/ Keyboard" keys and 2 "White Keyboards" except for one same detail. I cannot find a price per key or shipping cost anywhere. Key & S&H $$$ ???
