Any questions? What are colors options for the PCB?
I'm building an rs84 and wanted to grab some stabs. Couple questions:
1) Stupid question, but these are cherry stabs, correct?
2) Can we order only the stabs?
3) I'm a novice, but I plan on this sort of layout: https://i.imgur.com/xkGLD2B.jpg. I think that means I need:
backspace: 2x
enter: 2.25x
left shift: 2.25x
space: 6.25x (but preferably as many of the other sizes as I can get. In particular, 6x/5.75x/5.5x)
Is that covered by your stab set?
Thanks for any help!
5.75x/5.5xYou can bend yourself a wire for any stabilizer but this PCB only supports 6u, 6.25u and 7u spacebars.
Neeeeeed stabilizers!
I was going to buy a sprit edition facew to go with my purpl3 LeandreN plate, but this b.face deal looks too good to pass up! RGB SMD LEDs? YES PLEASE :D
bought a Sprit pcb from round 2 leftovers, but not I am considering selling that to pick up one of these pcb's haha...
btw are standard 6.25u stab sets the only option? or would it be possible to pick up a 7u space bar stab instead?
What are colors options for the PCB?
Are black plates available? You didn't list it but it's shown in the picture.

Are SMD RGBs optional? Meaning, can we get a board without them? What are colors options for the PCB?I will ask once more for color options for the PCB, but i guess white is the only options. This also helps the SMD RGB LEDs to reflect better.
Should resistor soldering be included?SMD is something few people can do at home, So I guess it would be better if you provided the PCBs with diodes and resistors already soldered.
62$ presoldered. Resistors, diodes, controller parts. That is a 13$ discount per.$13.60 discount. ;)

For a 60% board, 820ohm resistors can support all colors, according to winkeyless.Yeah I found out. Thanks though!

Are there any options for switches? Pre soldered. Since I'm a noob and can't do it myself. Not really, as I have no switches in stock. However, it is super simple. Get a soldering iron and one of those training kits, and you are good to go.

Is the PCB compatible with TMK firmware? It uses the FaceW firmware.
Is the PCB compatible with TMK firmware?
As explained above it uses FaceW firmware. Winkeyless has an application for Mac and Windows that will create a hex file for the keyboard. It's not as programmer like as TMK which is sad but it is nearly as powerful. I do wish that they would go to something that was internet based so sharing links for layouts was a breeze but yah get what you can take. Honestly I really wish they would allow TMK or have a managed fork for there keyboards. I have always loved them but this has held me back in the past.
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1NPBMdse5kZtOtOU3XFMOl2BgzPubHl_6QJ7Ib296wkI/viewform?usp=send_formI really have little use for them but I'm getting 20 to, marginally, contribute to the MOQ, along with plate and PCB of course.
Please fill out this for Gateron Blues IC!
3. From what i understand, if we choose to buy Gateron SW, you can`t solder the switches. Is there someone you would recommend regarding SW soldering?I can solder the switches for you for free if you're willing to pay the whole shipping route (Norway -> Italy -> Romania).
4. Can we mount the whole thing in a case after the switches are soldered on the PCB?Definetely.
5. The switches you mentioned have a clear housing?Yes.
2. The RGB LEDs (underglow) are meant to illuminate the case, right?

Yes, this kind of lighting is best if you use it with an acrylic case.

Just want you to know that i will put up some plates in my store for 40$ shipped EU. This 4$ more than it would probably be in my GB(depending on what you order), however, you will get them much faster.
Also, they are orange and grey :D
Ordered.
One question. I don't really need LEDs on every switches so I went for the diodes + controller only board.
Do I need to solder resistores on every switch or just the ones I want LEDs in?
In that case I'll have no LEDs at all, thanks for answering.Ordered.

I am pretty sure you only need resistors in the LEDs you are using. I will send a message to Winkeyless to confirm that. Also, the resistors are SMD style, not trough hole.
Feel free to change your order whenever you want.No thanks, it's ok. I only wanted LEDs for locks indicators, but I can live without.

Ordered this time, not waiting till the last minute and missing out like i did last round :thumb:Awesome. Thanks!
Just checking but the folks from the USA should be selecting the second shipping price point? The one that's for 8-20 days?
We can buy one item right? I just want a PCB.I want people to order 1 plate per 2. PCB.
Entered for one PCB and stabs and 80 Gat blues. I've said it before and I'll say it again, LeandreN is the king! Thanks!
Awesome, I'm in!
I'm back after a long time. I can't follow your GB sorry :(Yes, they work great with the Sprit 60% PCB. That's the same PCB he's selling in this GB. :)
Now I want steel plate for Sprit 60 PCB. Is plates in this GB support my PCB?
I have been looking into buying a GON PCB and was was thinking of fitting some underglow LED's. Then sticking the whole thing in a TEX acrylic case I have lying around. Since this one is RGB seems to me that this one is the better option. Can I change the color to whatever I want or will it constantly show a rainbow of colors? Follow up question. If you can change the color of the LED's, how do you do that?
Sound great! Thanks! Can I order only plate?Yes you can. This time you will get it in a cardboard box, so no worries about a bent plate ;-)

the box should look like this if he's still using the same as last round. Cannot say enough how much I recommend this guy!I am actually not using the Posten boxes anymore as they are very expensive. I have someone that is very similar though ;-)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/6kFEq2P.jpg)

Sounds very nice but how is OS X compatibility? Once it's programmed in the bootloader (i'm assuming windows .exe) it persists across reboots and other OS?
What is LED control like? Brightness/on-off?
Expected ship time?
This plate fits? (http://"https://www.massdrop.com/buy/60-aluminum-plate")
I've joined too.
Just for curiosity, how hard is it to write a working layout to the PCB? I want to use a mix of ISO and ANSI - long Enter and the 1.25 Shift with the extra 1u key, and the same fn layer I know and love on my Pok3r.
Yes i think they even have a program for OSX(i am not 100% sure).Works with OSX just like a pok3r does. The control, windows, etc. just function as their mac equivalents.
So since it uses FaceW firmware, then it's not Linux compatible? I'm very interested in this buy, however I primarily use Linux so I want to make sure everything will work. Also, is there a picture of the gunmetal plate anywhere?
Nice :D Would certainly recommend this buy especially with that steel plate and PCB cost reduction. Thanks :)
Good experience with Leandren last round.

From my understanding, the keyboard will work under Linux. But in order to reprogram it, it will be necessary to use Windows.
Correct, as far as I know. If anyone finds a way to flash on Linux that would be helpful for me.
But, of course, it would work fine under linux. It's sending the same key codes
Would not dfu-programmer (http://dfu-programmer.github.io/) work?
Here are some interesting information.I'm surprised no one ordered orange?
This is a pie chart of all the plates that is ordered. Seems like people want plain colors, or purple, red or blue.
Cool to see that many orders of steel plates.

Hmm. Are those layouts the only possible ones? Are there any other possible layouts?Should be plenty.
Would this fit into this case?It does. I own one.
It is possible to (re-)program faceW PCBs both in linux and on mac os x. First, to get a hex file with your preferred keymap, just use the online flash thingy here: http://winkeyless.kr/bootMapper/
Once you have the hex file:
1) Put the board into the bootloader mode (hold Q and plug in the board). It enumerates as "bootloadHID" - that's the bootloader these boards use.
2) Use the bootloadHID command line program to upload the hex to the board.
You can either compile bootloadHID yourself from sources; or for mac os x I've already uploaded once a binary (compiled on my machine) that you can just unpack and use here (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=60887.msg1838380#msg1838380). (I can probably also make linux binaries if someone needs.)
Just before I order, and I know this question is pretty stupid but can I use plate mounted switches with this plate? I used plated mounted switches on my winkeyless 'plate' and some of the long keys (and even some of the 1u) went on crookedly because the switches for the long buttons just sit on the PCB, not on the plate. I hope this is similar to the poker 2 plate where everything just fits perfectly so there is no room for switch to move. I just want to confirm that the switches sit snug on this plate so no crookedness can occur.
Thanks in advance and I look forward to joining this GB :)

Can I add a second PCB w/ soldering and double my switches and stabs qty from whatever it was I ordered? I really like PCB mount now, but I also want one with plate because metal shiny and purple.
Trying to decide on a silver or purple plate. Going to be pairing it with JTK debut.
Trying to decide on a silver or purple plate. Going to be pairing it with JTK debut.
I have both the purple plate and JTK. Unfortunately Leandren's purple plate is a brighter purple than the understated purple of JTK debut. The plate is more like a fuschia color compared to the grape of JTK.

As IKA said, the plate i have have a cooler purple than the JTK set. Nothing that prevents them from matching OK, though.Thank you guys. I'll probably go with silver then.
so im getting interesting in making my own 60% so let me get this straight, i would need the PCB with RBG and soldering plus stabilizers. Then add a case, say a GON Skinny 60%, cable and add switches/keys of my choice and i would be good? And a plate, of course.

Fairly new to GeekHack, but have owned 2 HHKB Pro2 keyboards for > 5 years, and just bought hasu's alt keyboard controller which is awesome.
I'm thinking it would be quite fun to build my own keyboard and have a few questions, apologies in advance for any stupid questions
Would this pack be a good one to start for my first keyboard?
How tough will the soldering be? (I've never soldered anything before)
Do i need to do any soldering other than the switches onto the PCB?
The carbon fiber plate looks awesome and definitely want that.
Can anyone recommend any cases (preferably aluminium or metal of some sort that would fit this)?
Would i need to buy anything else other than a case / cable?

If you get a PCB with all the main soldering done, soldering of just the switches is easy. They have big pins and big pads to solder to.
There are loads of cases for 60% keyboards, really depends on what you want. There are low profile ones like the Tex CNC aluminium one (https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=630), there are thicker/deeper ones like the Hammer style one (https://www.massdrop.com/buy/60-keyboard-case?mode=guest_open), and there are these flat ones (http://world.taobao.com/item/520463840878.htm?spm=a312a.7700714.0.0.IpFlBZ#detail) with removable weights at the back (similar to the LZ case style I think?).
There are a lot more to choose from as well, the 60% design has many different case options.
For things to buy: you need a PCB, (optional) plate, key-switches, case, keycaps, stabilizers, and a cable.

I always tell people that a plate is worth it because it completely changes the feel of the whole keyboard. If you can't afford the carbon fiber one, i suggest going with steel if you want your board really heavy, or aluminium if you are going to carry it around.
Does the carbon fiber plate actually feel any different to the aluminium ones or is it jusr an aesthetic change?
I want in C: if it's still open that is, and i do not want the leds, so the stainless steel plate, and the pre soldered PCB with the stabilizers i think, if the stabilizers are stabilizers for space, shift and enter-esque keys
Oh I see. Do you happen to charge extra for presoldering in-switch LEDs? Or do you just not do it at all? Just wondering...

Hey !
It is open until sunday. Presoldered PCB will support switch leds as an option later if you choose "tier 2". Stabilisers are as described.
PS: I can solder switches / assemble the board for you if you don't want to do it yourself, but then i need switches, i charge 15$ for that.
Does the tier 2 PCB support rgb lighting for switch (front facing) LEDs?
Cheers,Does the tier 2 PCB support rgb lighting for switch (front facing) LEDs?
The PCB only has 2 holes/pads for in-switch LEDs, which tells you that it does not support RGB LEDs in-switch. That would typically require 4 holes/pads. I don't know of any hobbyist PCBs which would support those.
Tier 2 can have normal 1 color LEDs in the switch. Tier 3 can have normal one color LEDs in the switch + RGB underglow.Cheers,Does the tier 2 PCB support rgb lighting for switch (front facing) LEDs?

Nah, I want to solder the switches myself, you can't have all the fun :P Do i need to do something else than just replying here to order? Are there different PCB's? i thought there was only one but now i have the impression that there is one which supports in switch leds, and on that doesn't? Is the tier 1 PCB the one in your video with purple switches? (this one: )
Hi,, I have filled the order form.. Is the invoice will come after order closed or it should be received in an instant?
Can the plate be installed on an existing keyboard without desoldering the switches?Nope, I would wait if I were you. Switches are installed into the plate, then soldered to the pcb.
I have a B.face X2 kit already but I can't really wait 8 weeks to put it together.
how many stabilizers do I need for 60% kb? Im afraid I put less than its needed..You only need 1 set.

PS: The expected shipping time is reduced from 2 months after invoicing to 1,5 months :)
Is it too late to change my order? I've decided on a different PCB.
Yeah, I understand but I was under the impression that the Tier 3 PCB supported RGB in switch LEDs and I'm not that keen on the underglow so I want to change my order from the Tier 3 PCB to the Tier 2 PCB.Is it too late to change my order? I've decided on a different PCB.
They're all the same PCB, just parts pre-soldered for you into the higher tiers.
Placed my order. Just waiting on my invoice. :]
Do you need people to buy plates and PCBs or are you happy for people to get just stabs and switches? That's fine, especially since you have a round 1 plate :D
Really wanting some switches but running low on cash to justify a spare plate since I have one of your round 1 plates sitting waiting for a build!
Ok, 3/3 on LeandreN GB's. 60% final try.
What would be a good case that plays well with the underglow of the PCB?frosted acrylic cases, such as the TEX one
TEX cases will require a modification. The horizontal supports between each row of switches will need to be removed where the RGB LED's are.I thought I could use the rgb version with the tex case.
Check out the clear 3d printed case at 1UP Keyboards (http://1upkeyboards.com/index.php?cPath=35) (supports Poker-style plates), or the BBB Acrylic case from winkeyless.kr (http://winkeyless.kr/product/bbb_acrylic-case-with-rgb-diffuser/) (case includes plate)
If the case doesn't have those funny ridges, you can use it even with the RGB LED's. I've seen a few nice looking aluminium cases that are just standoffs the PCB sits on top of.
If you got without RGB LED's, the components wouldn't interfere with the ridges in the case and you should be able to use any case you want.
A lot of the appeal of this PCB over the FaceW Sprit and mechanicalkeyboards.com (https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1351) sells is that RGB back lighting. You'll still have it as an option later if you wanted to solder in some LED's at least.
That said, the Acrylic TEX case can totally still be used, just dremel out slits to give clearance for the RGB LED's.
If the case doesn't have those funny ridges, you can use it even with the RGB LED's. I've seen a few nice looking aluminium cases that are just standoffs the PCB sits on top of.Thank you. Good thing I have a dremel.

Just ordered a small set, hopefully not too late !!!You are in!
Love the layout ...
Last chance to order now!
I'm going to be getting this group buy caseYes it will work. You will not need a plate.
https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=71551.0
Would the pcb / switches from this group buy work with this case?
Would I need a plate with the afore mentioned case?
Starting invoicing tonight! Some will not get it before the middle of this week. It takes a lot of time.

Got the invoice
Checked the total
"Oh jeez, what did I just do?"
"Better click Pay Now before I reconsider!"
Just filled in my order.
Going for a Tier 3, which i'm hoping will look good with the Carbon Fiber case.
Hopefully soldering the switches will be easy (never soldered before, so any tips welcome)
Thanks for the awesome groupbuy
Just put my order in. Hopefully I wasn't too late! Gonna be getting a TEX Acrylic case for this... Hopefully I can find a dremel to take what I need off!
LeandreN, I sent you a PM. Looks like there was some confusion with my order. Once we fix it, I'll be ready to pay! :)
Entered for PCB and stabs. Hopefully not too late! Not to late, but you will get an invoice a little later probably.

Hi,
Apologies some more newbie question? Do i need to tell you the layout i want if i'm getting the tier 3 pcb with presoldered diodes / led's?
Does this PC support the Happy Layout as mentioned on the carbon fiber case I'm getting in the other group buy? I'm not sure which layout i'm going for yet.
I'm excited for everyone who's gotten in on this, as it's probably your first custom build for a lot of you! Have fun everyone, it's an adventure. :thumb:
I ordered 3rd Tier, but i wouldn't mind. How would that go down though? everybody pays 2nd Tier and everyone gets 3rd Tier?
any way to prevent you from losing money? dont think anyone wants you to have disadvantages!
I will look at this at the end. 19$ refund per PCB tier 3. A lot of people have offered to not get a refund, which is amazing.I ordered 3rd Tier, but i wouldn't mind. How would that go down though? everybody pays 2nd Tier and everyone gets 3rd Tier?

I emailed LeandreN about this and the response was that we will get the refund of the cost of the rgb leds.

i havent gotten my invoice yet (i know it will come, dont feel rushed!) but i suggest putting both prices in there, so people can decide :D i would not want you to lose money and i surely will consider paying the normal price too :)
Sounds good to me. :) Only issue I see is around whether or not the case that everyone will end up using can fit in the RGB LEDs (mine can!). :)

Do you have a list or something of those who can or cannot support the RGB LEDs?

Based on my research for my B.face build:
- Anything Tex would have to be modified
- Stock pok3r cases may also need modding?
- Basically anything with the horizontal stiffener ridges would need modification
- I've been told that this case (https://www.massdrop.com/buy/lambo-60-anodized-aluminum-case?mode=guest_open) will work (at least I hope so, since thats what i bought)
- Cases from Ziptyze (the 3d printed ones) should not need modding
- Winkeyless acrylic cases would obviously not need modifications
That will be many "thank you notes".By haste (I'm still at work), I forgot to leave my thank you note there so I'll drop one here.

Thanks a lot for all you've done in these three rounds. It's always been great.

Hmmm. I do like better feels.Hey, will I have to clip and lube the stabs like in your video LeandreN?
No, but you can for better feels :)
I've ordered a Tier 3 PCB, and just filled in the form to say I will continue to pay the Tier 3 price.
Thanks for the awesome groupbuy
My question is, i'm in the other group buy to get the carbon fibre case I mentioned earlier, and now I'm getting worried that the LED's might not fit.
How easy will it be to remove the LED's if necessary?
You mentioned you could do the soldering of the switches for a fee, but I guess that would require you to have the plate. Is that right?
Sorry building this keyboard is all new to me.
Thanks for the info. Just paid the invoice, thanks for all your effort
Will probably be asking more stupid questions when I actually have to build it. Apologies in advance. ;D
I plan on putting this in an aluminum TEX case, would the RGB soldering etc. get in the way of mounting the PCB inside? If so, then I'll respond to leave mine tier 2. Otherwise, free upgrade is free!It might be a problem. Respond to the form accordingly.
Thanks! It is decided. This is the best way.I'm still a little confused. As I am going to use a TEX aluminium case, am I still able to have a PCB without the RGB soldering if I select Tier 2 on this survey?

The tier 2 choice on the survey does not guarantee you a tier 2 PCB. It is only a few tier 2s available. I am sorry. You can refund the order, or keep the tier 3 and sell it(recommended).

Desoldering should be okay with a tweezer and soldering iron, however I am sure some people will trade a RGB board for a non RGB board on mechmarket :)
Could you perharps reference a source you think is particularly good at instructing how to solder/de-solder?There's no particular instruction to follow, just some advices.
Thanks for this, hopefully this will come in handy :)Could you perharps reference a source you think is particularly good at instructing how to solder/de-solder?There's no particular instruction to follow, just some advices.
Use a small tip, the smaller the better.
Desolder one end at time.
Hold the component with the tweezers and either pull it up or twist it a bit while desoldering. It will come off the PCB.
If you are careful, you can desolder without damaging the components themselves.

Get it without the RGB. It took some very serious modification to get my B.face + RGB in a TEX case.
Just sent the payment to Winkeyless. They are starting the production now.I will be paying later today when I get home from work.
Still 15 unpaid invoices. I would like to see these paid by the weeks end so I can order the plates :)
Gaterons are also ordered, but not paid.

does anyone have images of the TEX case modified to fit the RGB strips of the pcb?

Oh well, apparently our whole last page and the IC thread is gone :(
Still had both open on my phone, PDFs attached, hope it helps :)You're a life saver! Thanks :)
Hey Guys,It will support all the layouts you mentioned. All the information is still in the OP on page 1.
Thanks again LeandreN for the awesome group buy, made me pull the trigger on making my first custom! Sorry if my questions have already been answered, I can't seem to open the backup PDF of the thread.
I just wanted to check whether the PCB supports split backspace/split right shift/split left shift layouts - I know it does on the WKL store, but I'm not sure if the pre-soldering will preclude these layouts.
Cheers :)

Sadly have almost nothing to trade, since I just started sourcing stuff in the keyboard realm :(
I got a a vpro v700 for crazily cheap, just to play around with and maybe harvest for parts if that's something for you :p
I'll attach the PDF once more, for good measure. This thread wasn't too interesting to have saved, I'm happy I got the ic though :D

I'm looking at this case (http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Wholesales-GH60-Anodizing-Aluminum-Case-for-60-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboard-Compatible-Poker2-Pok3r-Faceu-60/32540926035.html?spm=2114.01020208.3.198.mdpyWi&ws_ab_test=searchweb201556_6_79_78_77_80,searchweb201644_5,searchweb201560_2) as a potential alternative to the Tex aluminum case. It just has stand-offs and doesn't have the ridges that would be an issue with the RGB LEDs.
Does anybody have one of these? It looks like it would probably work without modification.
Is it the first of February already?
The color a RGB led produces is always controlled through PWM afaik. You can think of them as 3 single leds (Red, Green and Blue) that are PWM regulated, grouped together in a very small space.
Since the PCB is from Wkl, I assume I can order a translucent housing/casing from Wkl right?
Ordered a tier 3 PCB.
Plates are in production and will ship to me before christmas, same with PCBs.So, good chances to get plates and PCBs before the end of the year?

Does anyone know if PCB mounted stabs are compatible with plate mounted switches?
So there will be no issues if I use these PCB mounted stabilisers with plate mounted switches? I understand that the plate is compatible but was just wondering about the switches.Does anyone know if PCB mounted stabs are compatible with plate mounted switches?
You should be fine as long as the plate supports it which it appears that the plate has cutouts for PCB mounted stabs. What makes switches PCB mounted is the two extra pegs that clip into the PCB for extra stability, they aren't necessary by any means.

UPDATETotally fine with me. As far as I see it, with all the work you have put in, you have no reason to be sorry.
Postage prices along with some other price changes makes it impossible for me to give people who bought a Tier 3 PCB a refund. Sorry.
All the money now has to be used on shipping and packaging materials.
Sorry.

Give me a Tier 2 please! Let someone else benefit from a Tier 3. I have zero intention of utilizing RGB underglow and it'd be hidden by an opaque case anyway.

Oh wow haha. Then I suppose it doesn't matter. I won't have issues with a Tier 3 PCB not fitting in my case, but it just seems like a waste of RGB underglow parts.

You'll have to dremel out slots for the leds to sit.
I feel so spoiled with this GB, the usual warning of taking time and communication will perhaps not be too good does clearly not apply to LeandreN's group buys =)
And about no refunds for Tier 3, I couldn't care less at the moment, I'm so hyped and glad over how fast and smooth this GB is/has been.

Amazing work, LeandreN!
What sizes of space key stabilizers will you add? 6u, 6.25u and 7u? Just checkin' :thumb:
I dont need the stabs I ordered anymore. Could I sell them to someone else to get my order to ship faster? :)Damn you guys want your orders fast. Haha. I can refund you 9$ and take them, but I doubt it will ship faster.
Oh boy, oh boy! Any PCB only orders on the horizon ;DPCB orders have the same estimates as PCB+ plate orders :D

If anyone who wanted a refund for their Tier 3 costs happens to also be a Vim fan, I can send you a free HJKL and Caps Lock replacement kit (http://vimcaps.com/products/vim-hjkl-caps-lock-replacement-package-sa-profile) (normally $15). I might not be able to do this for everyone (I have no idea how many are affected), but I'd like to support LeandreN's hard work if I can.

I've actually looked at your vim caps to buy as a present for a colleague who is a vim user (to push him to buy a mech ;) ) but the full price with international shipping was a little too steep (for a gift). If you could give me a discount on a set (would prefer DSA), both me and my colleague would appreciate it ;)
EDIT: And as seen earlier, I payed for Tier3, so hopefully I'm eligible.

My first post... and its a BIG thank you to LeandreN for letting me get in on this GB when I wasn't a member of GH or Reddit (That shouldn't be an issue anymore). I also wanted to say thank you for getting me a Tire 2 PCB (robertcalvert).
Im so hyped for my first GB... I cant wait to see everyone's builds ;D

Did the GB #1 plate have plate mounted stabilizers? I really want to do a hand wired 60% in ISO but cant find a plate in ISO that has plate mounted stabilizers.
Did the GB #1 plate have plate mounted stabilizers? But let's have LeandreN confirm this, I might be wrong.

Sorry i though your question were "anything new from gateron". No news, aiming for this week still.Alright. Thanks for the news.
I may of missed it but is there a list of people that have had their orders shipped and not?
Are you proxying cases from Ziptyze's group buy? If yes, you can wait until they arrive before you ship my order. That way you can save a bit on shipping.Yes I do. I will ship your order when I have the Zip cases then. :)
Looks like Gaterons will arrive today ;)Gateron is mocking me. I guess you can ignore my last PM.

There are special blues? What did I miss?! :D
LeandreN is magic! Probably helps that we ordered a few thousand of them though. There are special blues? What did I miss?! :D
Corus, who i ordered through just carries plate mounted Gateron Blues. I got them to order PCB mount :)
I recorded a typing test (https://soundcloud.com/badsectors/noplate-wav) this morning so i can compare the sound with and without the plate installed in my B.face.
Oh, well I got a black alu plate to hide the white pcb in my otherwise mostly all black build.I recorded a typing test (https://soundcloud.com/badsectors/noplate-wav) this morning so i can compare the sound with and without the plate installed in my B.face.
Nice! Plates mostly improve the feels, but will probably augment the sound, especially steel. :D
Some media keycodes aren't supported on Mac. Check out this sheet for supported keycodes (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/197Vzf_fOJOdlxVBjT9aHL0n53nYrtGyrkxbDgx1IvT8/edit)
It does list next/prev track as supported though, try some event capture utility on whatever the keyboard device enumerates to under whatever OS X's equivilent to /dev/input? Even though the Keyboard emits the event, the OS has to listen and handle it some way.

Thanks for that list!
I think i have 2 options:
* Make a crazy mapping for next/prev (e.g. ctrl+opt+cmd+n for next) and have a custom macro send that sequence
* Hack the firmware to send the correct code.
I'd like to go the firmware route since that would be more compatible and others would find it useful. If I ever figure it out, I'll post it somewhere.

Sticky LeandreNs all over.

So seems like I can get a top of 8-10 orders a day depending on complexity. Takes about 20 minutes for each order. Sorting stabilisers and gaterons is what's takes time.

Are all of the Zcases sold in advance? Or is there a batch for later too? ;)

i'm curious, how do you count the gaterons? with that many i would think doing it by weight is faster, eh? :D hope you dont have to count everything by hand ^^;
I wonder if you could weigh them...
Yeah a scale would work. I should look for one for the next GB.

Got the package yesterday(!), so now I'm ready to start building! (When I get the time and decide what layout to go with).Fantastic! The Z-case will work :) (i just tested it in the video i did yesterday) And you can probably mod the Dulphin case to fit also.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/w1lSErj.jpg)
Just making sure the RGB LEDs are working (the bottom right 4 didn't light up at first, but then I realized you need to set 16 LEDs in the settings, and now everything works just fine).Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/OswEjqo.jpg)
The pcb and the case (acrylic clear from Dulphin) doesn't seem to play nice thoug =/ Hopefully the z-case on the way will work better.
Hi LeandreN, is the stabilizer support for 7x spacebar?Spacebar wire is 6.25u, although you can easily bend a wire on your own.

How do I remove the edges of the PCB? I'm a noob to this :confused:You break of one and one of them until the whole thing breaks off. Use force.

Do you have tracking numbers? Did I even bother to pay for tracking? I don't remember, but sometimes my goods get left at my apartments front office and nobody leaves a note, but sometimes they get left at the UPS or USPS location and I don't get a note, or my roommate takes the note and never mentions it.No tracking unfortunately. Only a few orders has tracking.

The points that the edges attach to are perforated so they should break pretty easily. I'd recommend using pliers (ONLY on the tabs you are breaking off, hold the PCB in your hand or something) to bend and break them off.
Today was a good mail day :)

I'm so excited!! Thank you! This has easily been the best GB I've been a part of.The spreadsheet says that you sent mine but you didn't list me in any of your shipping updates. Don't mess with my head LeandreN! 😉
Yours was shipped, sorry. Edited now. :))
This is going to be my first custom build, and I was wondering where I could buy krytox lubricant from?
I've seen in the leandren vids on youtube that you should use lubricant on the stabilizers.
I'm based in Hong Kong, and can see it in TaoBao but it's in huge quantities, and I'd probably buy the wrong stuff.
Also where else should I use lubricant? In the switches?
Is there any information about the supplied firmware and bootloader?http://blog.winkeyless.kr/183
Is there any information about the supplied firmware and bootloader? Not sure if this helps, but the source for the firmware is on GitHub here (https://github.com/showjean/ps2avrU). I think the bootloader is the default one that comes with the atmega32 microcontroller.

Or you can follow this guide.
Right, I was thinking of flashing TMK on mine, but I have to drill new holes on the PCB first (didn't support my flipped off-center-stem spacebar :p).
As soon as I've done that I could go about figuring the pinouts for each row/column and do some tests.
Were you going to replace the microcontroller? The B.face/FaceW boards do not support TMK because of they lack hardware USB and the USB stack used by ps2avrGB is not supported by TMK (https://github.com/tmk/tmk_keyboard/issues/186#issuecomment-96947844).
Edit: Regarding the spacebar stem, maybe it would be easier to graft a new stem onto the spacebar from a key you dont mind destroying?

That makes it a bit more challenging, I thought it was using the U4.Edit: Regarding the spacebar stem, maybe it would be easier to graft a new stem onto the spacebar from a key you dont mind destroying?
Drilling three holes and jumpwiring it to the pins next to it is a better long-term solution IMO.
Just be extremely sure that there are no traces where you drill :) AFAIK, the PCB is just 2 layers, so you should be able to see all traces since they run on the outside where they are visible.
Since you can mount the switches to the plate
Well, if you do that, there is definitely people around that is willing to pick it up.Just be extremely sure that there are no traces where you drill :) AFAIK, the PCB is just 2 layers, so you should be able to see all traces since they run on the outside where they are visible.

I'll have to cut the MISO trace (which I have no use for myself anyways), as it's pretty much directly where the top pin would be.
Kind of considering selling the kit instead, should've done more research beforehand.

wooo!
That looks really nice.
Is that the Vortex CNC case?
It is the Vortex case, I got it from pexon during the sales. It needed a little modding for the PCB to fit as the fins blocked some of the controller parts.

Oh joy, I was planning on using that exact case and wasn't prepared to dremel it...
Which plate is that? Steel or grey aluminium? End product looks good :)
I received my package this weekend and the plate looks awesome! This is the first build I've done and have a couple questions :)
I bought some zealios when he had his sale a few weeks ago and it looks like the two plastic pieces on the switches are preventing the metal contacts to go all the way through the PCB. Do I need to clip those off first?
I also wanted some LEDs for my switches and wanted to know if there were any recommendations for the Winkeyless PCB. If I could get them on Amazon, that would be great.
One last question - is there a guide or YouTube video of someone assembling everything? I'd like to follow along with someone elses build to make sure I don't mess anything up! :P

those are switch stickers. they're meant to reduce wobbling between the bottom and top half of the switch housing, but the difference is minimal, if noticeable at all. it's more for aesthetics.
When I finish this build later, do I still need to flash firmware even though I will be using default layer and function?
When I finish this build later, do I still need to flash firmware even though I will be using default layer and function? Most PCBs come with a preloaded firmware. Just plug it in and see what keys register. You might want to flash your firmware anyway. It's very easy with the GUI software.

It will come pre flashed. Also left alt and left CTRL won't work, you need to reassign them from Korean letters.
Tuberous picture of my ongoing project. Switches aren't soldered in yet.
Some layout details anyway:
1. ANSI enter;
2. Two 1u keys in place of a 2u backspace;
3. ISO left shift;
4. Short right shift;
5. 7u Spacebar with 1.5u, 1u, 1.5u modifiers;
6. Stepped caps lock (which is going to be Ctrl);
7. Two stabilizers only.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/HpS6j8j.jpg)

Just curious, how long did it take for you to receive your packages once they shipped?Twelve days including shipping and delivery days. Pretty much the same timespan on everything I got from LeandreN.
This is a cool layout. Eliminating stabilisers, i see.Indeed, on the other board I might probably go for 2.25u right shift because it's easier for keycaps.

This was a learning experience. I found a few Zealio purples that were bad meaning a slight touch activates the key press and would see double characters before I hit bottom. Accidentally putting the switches in the W/L holes, oops. The clear acrylic case frop Ziptyze was causing the pcb stabilizer for the space bar to dislodge and causing a 'sticky' effect on the space bar. I thought I put the stabilizer wrong, but noticed that it was hitting some sort of lip inside of the case. I used a dremel to clear space. Works great now. The RGB leds looks beautiful with it.I've seen a few online with both the RGB led and in key leds. You should be good! This is what I'm planning on doing.
I do have a question. With the tier 3 pcb with the RGB leds, would it be ok to add LEDs to keyswitches? I haven't seen anyone with both yet. Also, I guess you can't map mouse controls with the bootmapper editor right?
I've built it! However I have no idea how to work the firmware and now half my board isn't working... Anyone have an easy tutorial and know how to reset it to default? Also some of my LED's aren't working, don't know if it's just another firmware issue or if it is a problem with the keyboard :(

Mine arrived last week. Had to wait for the acrylic case from massdrop which arrived yesterday. Dermeling the case wasn't as hard as I thought. Had a small issue with the spacebar stabilizer wire not fitting between the pcb and the plate though, but nothing a little bending couldn't fix. I'm really happy with how it turned out. For the PCB do we have to remove the edges of the PCB which look kind of perforated, and whats the best way to remove them?

All the completed builds look great!I have some extras. Pm me your address and I can ship them sometime this week. If you are in the US that is.
Unfortunately I broke one of the stems(?) on a stabilizer when trying to snap it into the PCB. Does anyone know where I can buy another stabilizer set? Or is it possible that it'd be ok with just 3/4 of the corners in place?
I saw ortholinear kb sells them, but when I try to checkout it says there are no shipping methods for my address. ZealPC also sells sets, but I'm trying to avoid the $15 shipping for a $1 part

Not sure if this is the place to ask or if I should be PMing, but are there any unpaid for PCBs available still? I see a few unpaid for orders in the Google doc in the OP.All of the orders are long gone. Sorry mate.
If not, is there any idea when another GB like this is going to occur? I'm dying to break in my new soldering iron on something more exciting than the Falcon-8.
Still no package for me yet :(Mmmmmmmmmmmm. Jealous.
I did however get my new Nexus 6P today which will be used for taking some nice photos once my build is completed :D
Got my stuff today!
Quick question: Does anyone else have trouble fitting Zealios flush with the PCB without cutting the PCB pins on the switch? Or is cutting those pins something you have to do with Zealios on this board?

Yeah, my Zealios aren't quite flush either, but they seem to be in as far as I can get them. At this point it's too much of a hassle to take all the switches out to clip the legs. I don't think there will be any issues, but we'll see.
Nice! I wish I had thought of this before. I just pushed hard. Lol.Got my stuff today!

hey guys I made a tutorial for just this problem (https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/4249if/guide_quick_way_of_fitting_cherry_mxgateron/)
better than clipping the nubs because you retain the stability, and quicker than filing them down too.
I got my stuff today! Well, actually yesterday, but I was working from home and didn't feel like driving an hour in the snow to pick it up.
There was basically zero shipping damage to my order. The box looked completely intact:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/Mb0w5yb.jpg)
Everything unpacked:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/UIEbjXh.jpg)
It turned out that the plate was bowed downwards slightly (I didn't notice until I set it on a flat surface), but I fixed that with some very gentle bending. Other than that, everything was perfect. 10/10 would buy again.
Thanks, LeandreN!
Thanks for the updates people.
Do any of you guys now if i am allowed to use my Heatware to get feedback from this GB?

Posted my feedback. You should update your heatware on profile, LeandreN. My advice.
I only participated first round & this round. You refunded me for r1 plate. I don't join r2. Maybe you mistaken :)Posted my feedback. You should update your heatware on profile, LeandreN. My advice.
Thanks, my friend. BTW, did i ever refund you for the r2 plate?

I assembled my board and something isn't right. I get some crazy chatter, keys are actuating way before they should (I'm talking 1g of pressure and they actuate and register several key presses. Also after updating the firmware, as soon as the board is plugged in, it seems that all keys are being pressed at once. I get a random 4-character string that is constantly being pressed, but its random every time. Any help?If the keyboard is in bootmapper mode, the board will spit out the row/column of the pressed switch when you press a key. It looks something like "-4,5=" for a single keypress. Is that anything like what you are seeing?
I tried following this http://blog.winkeyless.kr/183 but nothing is changing...

You Aussies and New Zealanders are so funny.
Thats horrible. I was scared when my package came damaged, but fortunately everything seemed ok.
Can you not get any compensation from USPS?
I received my PCB, plate and stabilizers today. USPS did a great ****ing job! PCB is cracked down the right side and the plate came completely deformed :(
I was able to fix the plate (a little, still bumpy) but I doubt the WKL PCB will work.
Pic is attached, along with the heartfelt letter from USPS.

Can someone link me the best youtube video on how to soldering switch? My first time soldering was a disaster, lots of key were registered once, but after several press on switch hitter they were not registered again. :(
Luckily i decided to use the gray plate first, so i dont need to use the red one soon. Also im having a hard time deciding, split right shift or no split right shift?

Split right shift and split backspace for your HHKB stlye layout - it will change your life :thumb:

Is that a winkeyless case?
Sorry to spam this forum... but just a quick question:There's no teensy on the board, but the cable connector is USB mini
What is the connection on the teensy? Is it micro or mini USB?

The teensy is a development board all by itself. It has an Atmega32U4 microcontroller plus some some other circuits on a little board. Some keyboards have a socket for this and use kne as the controller. Thanks :DSorry to spam this forum... but just a quick question:There's no teensy on the board, but the cable connector is USB mini

Help a fellow rookie out and explain to me.
I was under the impression that a teensy was a type of controller. I'm probably way off :-[
What would you call the controller on the winkeyless PCB?

The winkeyless keyboard PCBs just have the microcontroller (a Atmega32) soldered directly to the PCB.
my enjoypbt set doesnt have keys for split backspace so i dont think i can do split backspace.Use different keys from the same row. Since you're putting Esc as first key, you can use the Pipe/backslash (or whatever it is in your native layout) as 13th key and, say, num lock key as last.
Has anyone had any issues trying to get the keyboard to go into Flash Programming mode? I've tried holding q, shift+Q but nothing seems to work. I can enter bootmapper mode (holding tab) no problem.Holding Q works for the FaceW.
There will be no more Winkeyless group buys in the nearest future. That's sad because the B.Face X2 is definetely the best board I tried and I'm glad I got two.

Anyway, the only real alternative at this point is GON's NerD 60, although I've heard it takes forever to be shipped.
Thanks that worked out perfectly :D Now i just need to find a nice heavy alu case for it.my enjoypbt set doesnt have keys for split backspace so i dont think i can do split backspace.Use different keys from the same row. I just got a message from GON keyboard works. That's all ;)Disclose the details already!
I finished my build off last night at about 1am :)
Spent close to 2hrs desoldering all the switches so I could put the plate on. I almost gave up on the first switch, but it got pretty easy after the first couple.
I also put the switch LEDs in this time around, which I skipped before to make the desoldering easier.Show Image(http://imgur.com/SY2lCZE.jpg)
Without the plate, I had some crooked and uneven switches, which kinda drove me nuts. This time, with the help of a plate, they turned out perfect:Show Image(http://imgur.com/1F2RZqO.jpg)
The plate helps a lot with hiding the white PCB. (Here's what it looked like before (http://imgur.com/EAcfaD5.jpg)). With the plate installed, everything looks nice and black, even with the LEDs on:Show Image(http://imgur.com/ojp9QAZ.jpg)

You need to hold down the standard Ctrl key for the B.Face X2. Mind you, the by standard Ctrl I mean the bottom left key, no matter if you remap it.
Do I have a B.Face X2?If you got the PCB from this group buy, yes, you do. If you bought the SPRiT edition from the previous GB, then you have a FaceW.

Thanks for this LeandreN, this was my first GB outside of Massdrop and it went smoother than I could have hoped.
Anybody else still waiting for theirs?I'm still waiting on mine but I live in Australia.
I figure the East Coast blizzard in the US may have delayed the post office pretty significantly... also I had it shipped to work and they tend to hold onto things for a few days.
I'm not worried or anything. It's fine. Right? Right.
I'm not sure if this is helpful for anyone else, but I decided to go with a Tex case for my build and was faced with the fitment issues other members have mentioned. The fix was fairly simple so I figured I'd share it. I cut a piece of scrap paper so that that it fit fairly well inside the Tex case. Line the scrap paper up on the bottom of the PCB and rub a crayon or something over it to reveal the high spots (RGB LEDs). Use a hole puncher on each one of the marks so that you end up with a template to make the trouble zones on the ribs of the case (see images: http://imgur.com/a/T3QBH (http://imgur.com/a/T3QBH)).
I set my Dremel up with the height adjustable "Multi Purpose Cutting Kit" (#565 (https://www.dremel.com/en-us/Tools/Pages/ToolDetail.aspx?pid=565#.Vq64djYrIUE), good for half-assed routing) and a high speed cutter (#196 (https://www.dremel.com/en-us/Accessories/Pages/ProductDetail.aspx?pid=196)). I laid some small pieces of stainless sheet metal across the case to support the Dremel, but you could probably use two Bic pens if you were so inclined. At this point it's just a matter of being patient and letting the bit do the work - push too hard and it bites and goes for a ride.
A note: the 196 bit, like most Dremel bits istrashfor light duty work... but then again, Dremels aren't really milling tools are they? The outcome was less than perfect, but I feel the results were much nicer than if I had attacked it with a sanding barrel.
Sorry, I don't have more photos of the process but it was more improv than executing an actual plan.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/l5C2Fgn.jpg)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/I2YqaiF.jpg)

Just one question, sorry if it's dumb: Wouldn't it be easier to just remove the RGB leds?
Just one question, sorry if it's dumb: Wouldn't it be easier to just remove the RGB leds?
It's not really a problem that can be solved by debounce, as it's not a bouncing problem.
I fixed mine by pulling the switch tops off the ones that are causing problems, and then swapping the purple plunger with a different Zealio, and then testing to see if it was still causing issues. If after 3 or 4 unsuccessful plunger swaps, I then will pull the thicker metal leaf closer towards the plunger just slightly, test, and repeat until it no longer causes the problem.
Just one question, sorry if it's dumb: Wouldn't it be easier to just remove the RGB leds?
It was an option I considered. I don't have a need for backlighting so much, but I wanted to keep the board and its components intact in the event that the build didn't satisfy me and I had to sell it off. This is my first build and I didn't want to run LEDs on the top either, since it would only make desoldering that much worse. The compromise: I'm using Gateron housings (Zealios specifically) and the backlighting peeks through a bit when I'm feeling "saucy" enough to switch it on.
Unrelated to the case issue... is anyone else here that used Zealios in their build struggling with key chatter/bouncing? My board is plagued with false clicks and I'm hesitant to just keep putting new Zealios in there to replace the suspected bads. I'm also disappointed that there's no configurable debounce settings in the firmware (that I know of). I've tried a couple fixes I've found mentioned on GH, but nothing has cured the issues at this point.
The space bar wire came with mine.:( I'll have to PM LeandreN unless someone has a good idea of how to get one.

I soldered all my Zealios in last night. I tested all the switches briefly without keycaps installed and did not notice any chattering issues. Hope you'll be able to resolve all your chattering issues.

On a sidenote, did you lube yours? I'm starting to wonder if this is a case of piss-poor lubing technique on my part.
I finally got around to soldering my keyboard together, but am having some trouble :(You forgot to tell it that there are 16 LEDs on the board. It only uses 12 by default unless you update the settings with the BootMapperClient app
I plugged in the keyboard and did the key combination to turn the LEDs on and 4 of them aren't turning on. If it matters, I'm on a mac and I haven't flashed the firmware or anything on the board.
Any ideas what could be wrong?Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/Z9a6Wr5.jpg)
Quick question to anyone with a B. Face X2. I am trying to get the key mounted leds working on the esc, tab, and caps lock keys. They have the option to have an indicator led, but I just want them lit up like the rest of the board. How does everyone here have theirs set up? After going through the soldering instructions on the winkeyless sight, I am assuming that the 330 ohm resistors need to be replaced with the resistors I am using for the rest of the board (8200 for pink leds), and put in the upper position to pull power from the main.
Any help would be appreciated. This is how I currently have it, and there is no power to the leds. And yes, I am aware that the second pad of the resistor is not soldered. I want to make sure I have it in the correct spot before I do it, since I don't have a hot air station to change it.

Read the Soldering Guide (http://winkeyless.kr/soldering-guide/), specifically the section called "Resistors to make Scroll Lock and Num Lock LED as Full LED". You do not need a hot air rework station to do these. They can be easily changed with just a soldering pencil.
