[IC] Sahara 65 Keyboard by Scribe Studios
« on: Wed, 03 January 2024, 23:16:56 »
Hello everyone,

Welcome to the Sahara

We are Scribe Studios, a team of two friends (an engineer and an architect) who have always shared a passion for computers, technology and other associated peripherals. We thought that we could employ our skills from our professions to design a sleek, minimal and timeless keyboard. We started working on this project in 2021 and after multiple rounds of designing and prototyping, we are finally ready to show the Sahara.

Design

This keyboard is inspired by the Sand Dunes of the desert. We wanted to create a board which emulates these dunes on the side profile. Just like a desert and how the light bounces of each dune differently with a combination of shadows and sunlight – this is what we wanted to create. Over the last two years we have designed everything from the bottom-up.

Details/Specifications

Layout – 65%
Typing Angle – 7.0 degrees
Mounting Style – Gasket
Materials
        Chassis: Anodised Aluminium (Colour: Silver)
Weight: Full PVD Brass Weight (Colour: Black)
        Plate: Aluminium Plate Included
Weight – Approximately 2.9kg assembled (including keycaps, switches etc)
PCB – Hot-swap RGB– QMK/VIA compatible

The other things – Poron Gaskets, Rubber Feet, Plate Foam and associated assembly screws will be included

These photos are from our fourth and final prototype.

This is a keyboard kit, keycaps, switches, stabilisers are not included and are shown for illustrative purposes only.

Launch and Sales Format

The silver variant of the Sahara is a limited release and a self-funded project. We are expecting the keyboard launch in September 2024. Pricing will be confirmed as we get closer to launch; however the target price is between $470-$500.

It will be listed for sale on our website once all units pass our quality checks and we have packaged them personally.

As this is a self-funded project, exact numbers of the keyboard are yet to be confirmed; however, we are targeting between 50-70 units.

All keyboards will be shipped from Australia.

Further Information

We will continue to update the progress of Sahara on our Instagram, Website and Geekhack as we get closer to launch.

Special Thanks

After over two years of researching and designing and the multiple rounds of prototyping we are releasing the Sahara. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without the keyboard community and countless youtubers who have taught us a lot. Thanks to the keyboard community for this!

Sahara is our inaugural keyboard and we hope that you enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed crafting it.

Thanks for your support  :)

The Sahara 65 was birthed when Chuck Norris took to a block of anodized aluminum and brass with a toothpick  ;) :thumb:
