Had an idea re: space inside. If I could find a slightly longer set of screws, I could include a thinner walnut spacer between top and bottom case parts, cut it with the laser in a way to facilitate placement of the Teensy and wires. Also would aesthetically do what I was after before when thinking about a wood plate. The trick is determining what kind of screw they are.

I know the following: socket head, and the screw size x, is such that if Metric:  M2 < X < M3. Also, if SAE X < 6-32

I emailed Keymecher who sell the IKBC, but not sure to expect a response.

Anyone out there know of any stores other than Ace Hardware that might carry them (will try home depot/lowes). The search monetization on Amazon makes it hard to get a good search in for them, as i need more of an anchor term to defeat the ad algorithms that are about as helpful as Yelp serving you an ad for McDonalds when you search for Thai restaurants.

- you can measure the with of the threads, should be something like 2-3mm m2, or m3
- the other number is threads per inch or whatever the metric conversion is... you're probably close with 32. doesn't quite look like 40.... 40 looks a little finer than that.
- then you have the length as the other measurement.

so, 4-40 6mm would be 4mm threaded shaft, 40threads, 6mm long

take the screw to the hardware store and match the threads to one that's labeled. like this. (these are coarse deck screws but you get the idea... match the threads)
269685-0

once you get the specifics, you could even order form amazon.

...they may have a thread gauge at the hardware store to find the thread count (in with the machine screws)

Bigger than m2, smaller than m3. The hardware store’s gauges didn’t get small enough as they started at m4. Thinking maybe SAE instead, assuming there is no such thing as m2.5

yeah, there are half sizes 2.5mm is a thing.
here's a printable thread gauge: https://www.boltdepot.com/fastener-information/printable-tools/US-and-Metric-Thread-Sizes.pdf

another option to check is if there are any hobby shops (r/c, plane, drone) around where you are. they will have more, smaller screws than most big chain hardware stores.
