So I'm going to make as many forced patina keys as I can, but it's not exactly a great process.  If I get exhausted from the process there will be more copper keys.

The idea is to get ammonia to evaporate salt which quickly tarnishes and patinas metal in contact with the salt.  The technique is aggressive and TBH even with a respirator my nose was pretty ****ed up for most of yesterday.  I still faintly smell ammonia in everything.  The first key I did without the respirator and that was a bad idea.  A well ventilated room was not enough.

In case anyone missed the first key,

I prefer the look of the Ork design to the other two caps, but I gotta say that Keyng is by far my favorite of the 3.  Perfect amount of patina on it.

You need a vent.  Ammonia isn't what I would consider too dangerous, but OSHA does.  Get some duct work going.  It is an irritant and the OSHA limit is 35 ppm for 15 minutes, if I remember correctly.  A mask isn't going to help much.  Full respirator is required for NH3.  Maybe do it in a sealed system with a water trap.  If you still get the smell in the air, mist water to get it to aggregate and wash it off of the floor.

That white stuff is an artifact of my finishing process for the base.  Please just use light detergent (unscented) and room temp water with a sponge to remove it.  For whatever reason it appears on the keys some number of days after the finishing process.  In the future I'll be looking out to eliminate it from happening.

Those aged-look keys are amazing.

Brown isn't my color and I've already spent way too much on keys, but if you did a aged metallic cobalt Keythulhu I think I would die a little.

Wait, let me mock this up in Photoshop.

There were more than one ? I was referring to the most recent one on April 16th.

I was able to pull images for the Keyngs (re-uploaded here) because they are still hosted on shopify, but couldn't figure out how the other styles were labeled to find their pics.

Anyone happen to save pics from the sale on TechKeys and can upload them to an album somewhere? Quite a few of those keycaps disappeared into the abyss after the sale, so would nice to be able to see pictures of all the caps again  :thumb:

Which techkeys sale?
There were more than one ? I was referring to the most recent one on April 16th.

I was able to pull images for the Keyngs (re-uploaded here) because they are still hosted on shopify, but couldn't figure out how the other styles were labeled to find their pics.

Thank you Binge/TechKeys! I went ahead and put all the high res versions in the album here for anyone else who wants to look at them. And to help to find this post for anyone who searches in the future: Clear Skies, Sky Silver, Quicksilver, Strawberry Pop, Tongue Stoned, Very Pearly Purple, Green Dream Dust, Frost Dream Dust, Juicy Orange'n'Purpsicle

So after a long 14 days of shipping, I received my first (ever) artisan cap! I think it took so long because this little guy had customs enthralled...

Awesome art! And it matches...

:)

Bad pic I know. I took a lot of photos and that's the best I could do. The lighting here is horrible :( It looks amazing in person.

But yeah, thanks Binge! I absolutely love it and it will always be cherished as my very first artisan.

Wow. The bunny with the Cthulhu hat is awesome! I am seriously envious over here.
