GMK Uniqey keyboards
« on: Mon, 17 November 2014, 10:16:56 »
Has anyone else noticed this new page at the bottom of GMK's website? "Individual Keyboards Made in Germany" sounds very interesting. I'm hoping it is some sort of shop similar to WASD where you can chose a keyboard standard and then choose your own caps. I don't know much about it and I have searched around here and Deskthority with no results.

The Uniqey website can be found here at the bottom:
http://www.gmk-electronic-design.de/en/

Direct link to the Uniqey website:

Custom PCBs would be cool.... but I bet it's just going to be something disappointingly awesome.

Oh man I will be so broke if they start selling caps direct. It seems like it was bound to happen eventually.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

This is relevant to my interests. Curious as to how "custom" you'll be able to make them though.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Honestly I'm pretty much expecting this.
Pad printed gmk keys are still really nice though

It's the durability that bothers me about pad printing, I hate seeing the letters fade.

I've heard of a pad printed Cherry set being used for 15 years of heavy use with no fade. With GMK/Cherry quality, you really don't need to worry about wear.

A whole bunch of color options for keyset color are looking to be confirmed. I won't say what colors, but they're ones that have been popular previously.  This is all subject to change, as apparently there's a "special system" for how you choose the colors of your board...

Full alu construction confirmed. Plate too.

Don't know if it comes in ANSI or not, but a few versions of ISO are confirmed, German and UK english are confirmed 100%, French, Portuguese, and Italian are a maybe but are looking like something that they'll do

Also, I retract my PBT comment from earlier, but won't say any more.
