This is an interest check for Custom Artisan Keycaps

I would like to gauge interest in custom artisan keycaps. The design of the keycap and the color would be selected by you, and I would make them as orders come in.

I'm pretty sure that I can do custom colors, but I am unsure about whether or not to have 100% custom designs or just have pre-selected options for the cap, and let you pick and choose which design and colors are used.

Let me know what you think and what you'll like to see, and what kinds of caps you want (MX, Topre, Alps, Buckling Springs)

TL;DR:
Pre set designs or 100% custom?
What colors?
What stem kind?

Cool idea!!

I think it'd be a better idea just to do pre-set designs and let people choose the colorway they want since this will cut down time since you won't have to make and fiddle with a new mold every time.
Also I imagine if you did 100% custom that this would take a lot of time, therefore costing a lot as well but i guess that can be left up to the buyer.
That said my GF is an artist and this would be great as she could sculpt something for me and and i could send to you to have mold/casted.

Although if you do decide on making custom stuff for people, could we see some samples of sculpts that you could do? It would give us a better idea of what we're looking at.
Also, would choice of material be an option for premade molds?

I'm game, pending price and design/quality.

I say you should do a set of design(s). One-off, custom designs will be very time consuming and expensive

Thanks for the feedback, I think I'll make around 5 designs based upon what everyone wants to see, and offer custom colors for the set designs.

So now comes the question, what kind of designs do you want?

I think it would be awesome to try a custom service. I would love to think that I could design the perfect item for any set or keyboard.

I think that spacebars would be sweet. A simple no-frills spacebar would be very simple and it's something that very few artisans, and no truly active one has touched upon.
On that note, I would like a spacebar with a 0 degree angle so that I don't have to flip the things. Flipped spacebars, even though I love using them, look ugly as sin.

That is a great idea. But i do echo the sentiments of the others. To make it fully customised, one-off would be time consuming and very expensive to you and eventually to the customer. A few preset designs so people could see your work would be a great launchpad into fully customised designs though.
I do like frostytoast's idea of customised spacebars...

I'm currently working on a few designs, keep on giving me suggestions on what to sculpt :thumb:

over this weekend I will be sculpting some keys, namely:

μ "mu" FN (MX and Topre)
: D (MX)

and two custom order ones
hwood's ****butt (MX)
