Custom HHKB style 60% case with standard 60% custom pcbs support
« on: Wed, 07 October 2015, 05:02:13 »
Basically a Duck Viper style case that supports the standard custom 60% pcbs and plates. Why doesn't this exist? WHY!?

How would the pcb fit?

A simple 2 layered design. Basically take a low profile case like the one Tex makes, but with a little more margin for screw holes, and make a top layer for it. Simple.

would be pretty easy to mod a tex acryl case and get a top layer cut for it.
damn why didn't i think of that before i missed the most recent massdrop buy for that case!!!

I know! With that case you can get some funky light effects like the Duck Orion case aswell. The only concern I have for that case is if there's enough material at the top for screws?

Edit: Might aswell get good plate and sip sockets so one can glue the whole thing.

i think they only work with their sandwich-style plates though. would be nice to have an option that works with a poker-style plate.

I'm also after high edges, aluminum and no visible screw holes so Winkeyless and GON's versions simply doesn't do it for me.

sorry for potato pic and caveman drawing, but something like this could be made to fit onto any 60% case with a big enough bezel:

The only thing I would change is the screws, I'd put those from the bottom and not have them pass trough the top layer.

good call :) cleaner style. it would require a fairly thick top layer but i think 5-6 mm would be doable to get at least 3-4 threads engaged, depending on the pitch of the screws used.
i might actually try to make something like this and have it cut next month when i get paid again.

5-6 mm thick layer would make the edge in line with the bottom of the keycaps and look fantastic. You understand your responsability of keeping this thread updated with your results right? ;)
