That orange ubuntu and that black arch key both look really nice. :)
I had a sig once but it's gone. It used to display an icon of a Kinesis. Just imagine that.

I've seen them but didn't order. I have to say I didn't really like how they came out in the end. They look a bit messy. And the required spacing killed them a bit.

round 4 doubleshots will have tux keys. And gnome keys.

And glider keys btw \o/

But I'm definitively in for some keys if it ever will happen.

BTW, I had a nice idea for a keycap which I'll probably do as a GB soon :P.

I do agree.

But a lot of people run non-standart layouts on here.

Or have a different profile/color scheme they don't want to mess up.

So it's hard to get a common design interesting a lot of people.

You're not the first one thinking of it :P.

As I said, I don't rock standart SP profile on my alpha part of the keyboard (for now), I don't type in qwerty, and I like my keyboard all blank black.

So I'm probably not interested at all.

I think you'd lose all the detail of the archlinux logo if it was a DS key. All the sharp little angles would go away making it just a big blue A

Just some suggestions off the top of my head...
  • Emacs logo -- May be too complex for a DS
  • GNU logo -- Also may be to complex
  • Glider (hacker emblem) -- I know its being done in in round 4
  • Gnome foot -- Is this still in round 4?
  • Open Source logo
  • Red Hat, SUSE, etc.

I'd be down for some in PBT Dyesub.

Also, Dyesub is the answer to all these keycaps. Tricolour ubuntu logo? Dyesub. Good-looking linux mint logo? Dyesub. It's really the  answer to everything.

So we have ubuntu, gentoo, arch, (suse?). I'd say we should stop with distros now, or we'll end up with ton of different keys, which will be crazy expensive.
As for the group buy, how many different keys and how many of each type should we have to make this happen?
Maybe we can split the tooling costs evenly among participants to reward those who order more, because if everyone takes just their distro and nothing more, none of this will happen because of costs...
I don't know, just thinking loud;)

to have a decent price, we need 50 keycaps per logo if we go the doubleshot  route, and less if we go infil or dyesub.

to have a decent price, we need 50 keycaps per logo if we go the doubleshot  route, and less if we go infil or dyesub.
So maybe we should prepare like 10-15 complete feasible ideas, then set the number of keys per set, let's say 5, make a survey, where everybody votes 5 times for distinct keycaps and then each participant buys whole sets of 5 caps for a set price.
This price can be a little higher to cover the tooling costs of the next, say 5 caps, which will allow us to also buy these less common keycaps for sensible prices, if we buy the basic set.
This sounds a bit like Round Four...
Not sure this is good:D

How about a key which says 'terminal'

I'd approve of this, even more so something like this, though:
Show Image

There could be two version of this key: green on black = user-shell, and red on black = root-shell

If there isn't enough interest to do those, I'll run those myself on qwerkeys.

EDIT: oh yeah, to give the impression that the terminal is in a window.

Very basic mock-up, also thinking about making the background a bit more "blueish" :)

And definitely in for the Terminal keycap, great idea ! ;)

Just throwing the idea out there, could a terminal key be made doubleshot, white as base, shot with black, something similar to the image I previously linked, with the white base working as the border, and the ">_" ?
Not sure how it would look, but might be nice if it works.

I was thinking those new keys by QWERkeys that had one colour on the sides (white), one colour on the top face (black) and one white legend to show the terminal.

I'm really a big fan of double shots...the legends come out so much more crisp and clean.

I'll work on a few of these ideas and add to OP

I also tend to like DS better.

anyways, here is a Linux Mint mod key without the other graphic effects in there and just the white DS part

That one could be tricky to do...I was starting to think this set should be more generic Linux/Unix and less specific distributions because A) We can to every dist. B) Most of those logos are trademarked and may get denied by SP and C) A lot of them are too complex for double shots.

If anyone has more generic unix ideas throw them out there.

understandable. the LM one is from their Creative Common Licensed graphic which shouldn't be a problem for SP. I think it fits within their specifications, but it may need modifications too.

anyways, i might run LM myself  separately then if I get motivated enough

Read a return 0;, and I know I need to do $█ and Dennis Ritchie. And if you did not get my "!" and "?", "!" means I motion this to be in. "?" means should this be even considered (not in my motion).

Should Inkscape  be includes ? , Libre Office ? (so against it), any other special characters or control characters,  other jokes? (i.e. kill, nuke, UDP () {}), legendary emotions?, TeX?, CSS?, HTML? (against too), MySQL dolphin, etc.......

It would be nice to have some ADM-3A style H,J,K, and L keys with arrows on them to go with the Vim escape keys.

Isn't that basically Round 3?

(Attachment Link)

He meant that he wants arrows beneath the letters.

Ahhh I see - That is doable...is there much interest for those?

Yes!  Or maybe I should say I'd be in for a few sets of these.  I'm jealous of all the WASD gamer-types, and want my HJKL arrows.
I also like the ^[  key and would get a couple of those.

You Know what, I never got that too. I either used the arrow keys or IJKL. Yeah, I mess up when I used JK as ↓↑ in games. I wonder if most game devs are Left handed, or just trolls.

EDIT:
I remember now why I used WASD. Famicom made my head hardwired for left hand movement, and right for action.

Would you like me to make them as triangles instead or <v^>? ↳↟.↟↵

The root shell should be red in my opinion:

The underscore of the normal shell looks longer than the one of the root shell. The vertical distance between the lower end of the # and the underscore seems wider on the root shell as well. Is this an optical illusion?

I am also trying to remember what others I needed to do that I thought while making these quick ones.

for this project it may be prudent to use a font widely associated with linux/other unixalikes. maybe a bitstream vera variant?
even better would be an approximation of a bitmapped console font. i'll try to remember to play around with it when i get off work tonight.

Two votes on CPMono. It is official.

>digitalleftovers
I asked for Shebang, and no one responded. I guess a one vote. But I am not interested on it.

Welcome aboard. We are still in the design and implementation phase. Have a look around and help out if you like. I do not think we will be making orders yet. We are trying to make this an entire keyset.

I LOVE CARBON PRINTED RASTER FONTS! But osifont looks bad for $_ #_. I think I might actually make the blocks instead.

>et al.
FYI, I have been busy with work, that I have not made dmr yet, or any other. So I apologize.

Toss another vote in the #! column.  I like that the best.

fair, i hadn't checked out those glyphs. but have you seen the legit red alert sets that sixty orchestrated? the legends on the num row are beautiful and give a good idea of what SP's standard stuff is capable of looking like.

I'm struggling with getting these $ and # keys to work with the constraints of a doubleshot key.

I am thinking that I will work on these a bit more, but delay the GB a bit as I there are some other great keys I want to get going soon.

Thanks i3oilermaker, for telling to make these as blocks.

Actually, I did not like the red alert ones. :( The Bold or thickness reminded me valentine candies. They did not look like a raster what-so-ever.

Ugh, shebang goes I guess.
