It was my first time building a board from scratch. I put over half the diodes on backwards. Don't know how I got it working in the end. Feels good though, even though I've never gotten used to it yet though. The linear greys in it are quite a workout too! :p

It was my first time building a board from scratch. I put over half the diodes on backwards. Don't know how I got it working in the end. Feels good though, even though I've never gotten used to it yet though. The linear greys in it are quite a workout too! :p
I haven't had to deal with diodes yet. My RK9000RE rebuild was all switches and PCB land bypasses or repairs and my GH60 will have them pre-done since I didn't have access to a hot air station. I would imagine that could be frustrating.
I have been looking into some of the PCB share things where you can share PCB space with other people and get it cut down and sent to you for a lot cheaper than sending it out on your own. If I can find a good deal, I'll be looking into trying to figure out how to make a proper matrix and making my own keyboard. I suck at electrical work, so it will be a long project, but something fun to keep me busy.

I reckon if you preferred to 3D print the alternative case (http://ergodox.org/Downloads.aspx) or roll your own, you could contact Massdrop to omit the acrylic case from your kit for a discount ($~80 off, IIRC?). The aluminum cases were a debacle in round 1, major issues with fit and finish, and the supplier misestimated the production cost and quoted double to rerun them, so they won't be offered again.

$274 is the original and still-current price at the current buy-in volume. Notice there's a timeline showing what discounts kick in at various buy-in milestones. You can also "Commit to join at $199.00" only if we reach the minimum 100 buy-ins required for that price.

That's just inherent to how Massdrop has to operate as a "buyer club", so they don't get treated as a regular retailer for tax purposes. I think you can at least view the Assembly instructions without a login:

And Nubs, I thought the diodes prepared me....I was wrong. The size of resistors for my incoming LZ-GH are small enough to make me cry myself to sleep. I'll need a case of beer and a carton of smokes to finish that one! Hehe

Not sure if you picked up on it, but I'm pretty sure that was sarcasm about the current state about the Phantom assembly offered by Prof and what the Ergodox assembly by him is starting to look like.

they didnt make them in round 2 either
and hey those with the aluminium cases are pretty happy with them after sanding and such, see kurplop and rkinze and others.

its actually better now than pictured too, i sanded the sides some and have silver bolts now. just need to get a better camera.
your case lives on i just don't like the clear acrylic at all, black or red or blue would be tight or a mix or multiple colors with your ergodox design.....i forgot why they went with just clear for all 3 rounds.....i just hate it...it makes the ergodox uglier than with a flat color.
i have a 3rd ergodox not built and i think i may design my own case just so i dont have 3 ergodox that look all the same.

Same here, just getting a lister case custom cut in black/white since it's open source too.
I hope to have it together before r3 is over so I can get a second if I do like it.

It does. No non standard keys exactly(don't think anyway), just non standard amounts. So unless you wanna buy like four sets, one made for edox is your best bet.

It's much less trouble to just get the DSA set.. However, the base keys outside of the 2x length thumb keys arn't that great. (preference)
I prefer oem or cherry profile because the dsa has less length wise vertical surface area.. this makes touch typing more precision intensive.. That is to say it's less effort-ful to type on oem or dcs /cherry profile keys.
Id much prefer getting a custom set from WASD oem profile. they may be abs, but as long as you get any color other than black, shine doesn't look bad at all.. shine is only ugly on black.

I just scavenged a set of labeled POM caps from a used Cherry G81-7000 I got on eBay for like $~25; this guy has like 280 of them in stock (http://www.ebay.com/itm/271217737348). This model happens to have 1x modifier keys suitable for the ErgoDox, and its otherwise-terrible MY switches use MX-compatible caps. The F and J homing caps are "deep scoop" rather than having a raised line or dot. Then I just completed my ErgoDox set (as shown in the first post above) with some blank caps from Signature Plastics; FWIW, I got (8 ) 1.5x Row 2, (1) 2x Row 3, and (1) 2x Row 4 Vertical.

i would also suggest buying a kit such as the elenco basic kit and surface mount kit, it is worth the practice.
