Title: elitekeyboards flowchart
Post by: nanu on Wed, 03 February 2010, 21:19:22
I made a purchase consideration flowchart for less-geekhacky internet friends who haven't considered mechanical keyboards at all, in case I find more of them who want to replace their rubberdomes yet may be willing to pay a decent amount.  It's only a matter of time before those domes go bad.

History: ver. 1.0 (http://t.oomuch.info/src/1265250914316.png)

I (still) only have one mechanical keyboard so its accuracy is based from what I know by having lurked here.

You've got noisy pointing to black through one route, and worse, non-noisy pointing to blue.

Of course it's biased. It's good that you can see it's not entirely logical.

But hear me out: bottoming out will be noisy on any Cherry MX switch, since I consider that on my dampened browns to be loud, so I'm rather picky; I converted from a scissor-switch rubberdome that I consider much quieter, so I guess I was spoiled by that.

Perhaps a flowchart centered upon the notion of not bottoming out, and exchanging "clicky" for "noisy" and its connotations would be more keen and could avoid the pitfalls of the simplification I have chosen.

Awesome and quite informative really.
Elite should give you a freebie for making that.

I don't see how not wanting a loud keyboard can land you at Blue Cherries.

Haha!  I'm still mapping out mine.

I suspect that mapping to "Cars You Drive" or "Did Obama Fake His Birth Certificate" may also work.

File is attached if anyone wants to play with it (rename from .txt to .pptx).

I like the one with the MY switches thrown on the top left better. iirc they were represented by this fellow:

Then where do Cherry MY keys map out to, near Cherry Blue (but in between them and Alps/Buckling Spring) ?  I've got no problem with them and they feel like they should take a beating.

Ahh, if only qualifying a customer's requirements were this easy! Not a bad start though;)

Good point. In a real world situation, there needs to be a process break at every node of the decision tree that checks "Is this person crazy?"

No allows you to continue on the decision path. Yes, usually means you get referred to the nearest office supply or electronics store to buy the latest permutation of the Microsoft or Logitech Multimedia Keyboard.

No ****.  You can't make a joke around here just for teh lulz.  Everything get dissected and over-analyzed.  FWIW, I appreciated the joke.  Thanks.
