HHKB or Realforce or Filco w/ blue cherries
« on: Wed, 23 December 2009, 07:46:10 »
decisions, decisions, decisions.

I had an HHKB but sold it, I had a filco w/ blue cherries but sold it. Never had a realforce.

I have a few extra dollars and am debating on how to spend it.
I can only pick one though.
I am leaning towards the HHKB, but kind of like the seperate arrow keys on the realforce. Even though I emulate the HHKB layout, I still use the page up/down on occasion. Another filco tenkeyless would be cool too. I already have the fukka, cherry browns, and black alps(transplanted).

Of all the keyboards I have, I seem to like the black alps in the filco the best. The fukkas are real nice too, but wish they were a tad lighter. The cherry browns are sweet also, but at times they are just too light.
I like the BS keys, especially the unicomp spacesaver but it has a numpad which kills it for me. I would take a unicomp BS 'board over an IBM if that matters as I think they are a little bit lighter in feel.
The cherry blues have a nice feel to them, but the high pitched click is kind of annoying.
I do like the topres as they make a nice thock thock sound and are very smooth.

But I don't know. What would you suggest?

Ever used a Blue or White Alps board? (original complicated) Got one today and it compares very favorably to my Filco with Cherry Blues

No, not yet. Ideally, the blue or white alps would be NIB. If I liked them, then I would transplant them to the filco.

Pimp your Filcos.

aluminum keycaps would be cool, I guess. but that kind of bling doesn't do much for me. I am more of a practical and pragmatic user.

thanks all for the input. complicated white alps sound interesting, the challenge now is to find a NIB board that has them.
You know the fukka's are very nice, I wonder if there is a way to lighten them up a bit.

I'm still have yet to figure out what the difference between the Blues and the Whites are. Either way, the Blues are great.

Mine has a silver spring, but nowhere near as tensed as the spring off a Black Alps. I'll post some pics of the innards later.

The complicated white ALPS feel good but they aren't as smooth as IBM's buckling springs or white NMK switches.

Of course not. But in the case of my Blue ones, they are much lighter allowing for more effortless typing.

NMK? Do you mean the SMKs?
