[FINISHED] Faux Cherry Red ESC + RGBY modifier kit
« Reply #50 on: Mon, 14 November 2011, 15:26:24 »
I feel very hesitant about merging with R4.  Even if we wait until January for production, I'm sure we'll beat R4 to the mailbox by a good stretch.  I've locked horns with others about this before.  I don't agree that we should be combining a year's worth of group buys into one super buy, even if it saves us a bit of money and allows us to get some obscure, low-demand sets made.  There is a place for the superbuy, and I'm grateful to 7bit for doing it, but it shouldn't stop smaller more nimble buys from happening.

BO is available but I'm not crazy about it.  I'll bust out the samples and take some pictures tonight.  I'm currently waiting on an email from Melissa on when the keys would be ready if we go with BO.

If that is the case, I'm ok with waiting. I'd also consider another color, but in practice it's hard to tell without seeing the color samples in real life...

I've updated the second post by crossing out the preorders that have converted to real orders.  If all the uncrossed-out people converted we'd add around 30 RGBY, putting us at 67 total.  This would yield something like $18/$15 for RGBY-ANSI/ISO.

Great. Imo if you put these prices next to the "Next price breaks" in the OP, people'll consider buying more

So does this mean that we will extend the order date to include more orders, with the risk of people dropping out? Or continue on and place the order soon to ensure our current order amounts?

By minimum order I just mean the volume at which I calculated the prices in the OP.  It's nothing that SP is enforcing.  So if we didn't make it to 75 REDESC and 40 RGBY, then the prices would have gone up or we would have had to scrap the buy (or maybe just the RGBY sets).

The base key breakdowns I'm working from are posted in the interest check thread.  These don't include the legend setup fees, the shipping cost from SP, Paypal seller fees, etc., all of which are baked into the final prices.

Okay, I have reviewed the overall price structure and my initial reaction is that it would be cheaper for everyone if the ISO and ANSI were included in the same kit. Also, if we need to, let me know before this wraps up as to where we sit count wise and I will do what I can to get both the ESC's and RGBY's into the next price bracket; though I will be lurking this thread as I do everything else.

Oh poop; I haven't seen that movie in ages. Totally slipped over my head.

Also! I have done the math and decided my claim is both right and wrong. Here is what I have figured out:

Price of RGBY Base @ 50ct: $510

Price of RGBY Base + 25ct Ansi Shift: 382.75

Price of RGBY Base + 25ct Iso Shift: 291.5

Price of RGBY Base + 25ct Iso Shift + 25ct Ansi Shift (50ct total): 674.25

Price of RGBY Base + 50ct Iso Shift + 50ct Ansi Shift (50 ct total): 719.5

Price difference between the separated totals and combined totals: 45.25

Price difference between the separated totals and combined totals per set: $.905

In the end, based on the Generous assumption that half of the sets ordered will feature the much cheaper Iso shift, the increase in price for the entire buy, on average, would be $1 per set.

We can't know exactly, but my gut feeling from the interest check thread is that the proportion of ISO kits will be more like 30%.  This is borne out in the current order split (13/28).  I just ran these numbers:

For quantities less than 75, the combined kit is a couple bucks more than the likely cost of an ISO kit, and about a buck cheaper than the likely ANSI kit (where "likely" means a 70% ANSI 30% ISO split between orders).  After 75 the combined kit does worse than both likely kits.

Well then I think he final question is can the combined kit be achieved at any level by simply promoting/offering it? Having as many people as possible order both the Ansi+Iso shifts increases the discount opportunities that would otherwise be logically attained. In this I mean that, theoretically, it would be impossible to reach 75ct for both the Iso and Ansi kits individually but when combined, at the 75ct for RGBY sets, the 75ct for both shifts would be achieved.

As a way of starting this semi-movement or idea I want to change my current RGBY order to Iso+Ansi shifts; I feel I could resell them if need be easier if I appeal to both the international and domestic crowds.

I'm not convinced yet that the combined kit is a good approach (setting aside things like resale opportunity and looking strictly at price).  It seems lame for the ISO guys to pay more so the ANSI guys can pay a bit less.

At any rate, I'll update your order and add agor, then I'm off to bed.  Gotta be up again in three hours. :-|

I think its all a concept; One more key for everyone for an equal price or one less for an uneven cost but still the same amount of joy. Personally, $3 more or less isn't too bad but to others it is so its not something that should be set in stone this late in the game. I don't have an ISO shift and probably never will but if it is something I can have at the end of the day that will make my kit more complete I will get it; not to mention those ISO shifters need some help getting their proper discounts.

Ugh I hate math; if it were possible to just say that every keycap in my group buy were $2 I would do it but its just not logistically fair.

Strangely enough I only ever saw it once; most people my age have seen it 10 or so times. Now, if you want to talk about The Sandlot, give me a call because I used to watch that movie every day.

I'm not sure yet what exactly we'll be doing wrt collecting payments and closing orders.  I don't want the buy to grow stale and have people lose interest.  Regardless, SP won't get more BDH in until mid-December, meaning production won't start until January.

Should I add another RGBY-ANSI to your order?

Price drop!  RGBY-ANSI and RGBY-ISO are now $20 and $18, respectively.

Next likely drops are at 50 ANSI Shifts and 100 REDESC.  So order more RGBY-ANSI and/or SHIFT-ANSI.
