Can anyone help me with QMK toolbox? I went to the website and made my custom map, but in toolbox the device isn't showing up. It doesn't matter if I hold left control when plugging in the board, though if I do hold down left control the keyboard doesn't work and the RGB turns off, so I assume it's doing something right; but it still doesn't show up in toolbox.

You probably need to do your first flash through BootMapperClient for toolbox to "see" the board since it's not the usual QMK chip. That's as easy as going to the "Options" tab in BMC and hitting "Firm Up" then selecting your QMK hex, no need to even manually put it in bootloader since BMC handles that automatically.

Will it work with the Toolbox? The readme in the QMK docs for this board suggests you need to use HIDBootFlash to flash, if the Bootmapper method doesn't work for you.

Both the instructions donut cat has laid out and what is laid out in the readme file will work.

I still haven’t built mine yet.  Might do lubed cherry nature whites. Anyone have a favorite switch for this board yet?

I'm still in the process of getting those all together and doing a little troubleshooting on the best way to get them over the pond in one piece.

I was considering using the everglide jade green switches, but after a watching a review of them, I  might consider using box royals instead.

I'm hoping to have an email out to the EU orders this week about the invoices. The main thing right now is I'm trying to figure out the best shipping situation between an insured bulk shipment and individual shipments. I've never done a bulk intl shipment with as much in product as this would be, and trying to understand all the details and exceptions in USPS's intl shipping insurance policies has been a confusing process, but one that I need to figure out to know what the best option for the situation is.

Status time:

 - US orders - All are packed, most are shipped, waiting for 3 unpaid shipping invoices. If you don't have your order, please check your PayPal. These unpaid invoices are from mid-May :/

 - Non-EU intl orders - All packed, last one going out today

 - EU proxy order - All packed and ready to ship to the proxy, Mechboards.co.uk, just waiting on 3 more of the orders to be paid.

 - Replacement middles - For those of you that contacted me for one I've got these ready to go out today. Luckily it was very few overall that broke because there's actually no extras left at all, not even for my personal builds ironically.

I'll be waiting until the EU order goes out, hopefully by this weekend, and then I'll start working on organizing extras. Seeing as there's no middles or tops left I'll be converting leftover kits to skeleton-style cases via thiccboi standoffs and probably dub them the "budget-est-96". What I'll probably do is have the "good" quality plates(of which there are few) near the GB prices and then offer the gross amount of "not good" quality plates at reduced cost for people looking for cheap still perfectly usable plates for projects and whatnot. Potentially you could knock the soldermask off of them to get a bare copper surface from the slabs of copper on them, idk if that's a thing easily done. There's PCBs too, most of them in the same condition as the GB items with a few "rejects" that I'll try to repair or sell discounted as "project grade".

One thing for sure, after so much of this I'll be so much happier to be in a less stressful position with these.

Sorry for the wait, wanted to make sure the EU order was moving well before I did anything with the extras. As it's currently sitting in UK customs, I'm comfortable enough opening up extrass:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdOE5YipBg2fSm-qkyk-ftqqUK7iVgxk63rxzhLt7xkRfbRcw/viewform

Been through it a couple times and I think everything makes sense and says what it needs to. Back to Google forms for the time being because of PayPal.

Really nice. I hope that in the future you'll run a similar group buy for tkl or 100% keyboards (maybe compatible with the existing pcbs so you'll save some work).

Can you share with us who cut the case for you o do you intend to run other GBs in the future?

thanks

J0limon was the acrylic parts and did the design work for the plate files. I'm 100% considering sticking with him for future case needs with how well working with him went. The plates were cut from JLCPCB, which is where the issues with them came from.

I do plan on doing more boards in the future, not sure yet what exactly the plan is though. I may looking into other plate materials like carbon fiber that I can have cut in the US to manage one of the weak points that showed up with this board.

Mechboards has a small number of extras that will probably be up sometime after GB orders are processed. Outside of those, extras orders would have to come from me.

Does anything special need to be done to get the Caps Lock/Numpad Indicators to work? I see that there is two pads on the top side of the PCB next to these switches... but I am dumb.

LEDs would need to be soldered there and then it's just enabled them in BootMapper. Based on my measuring it looks like you should be able to use any SMD LED 3.5mm or shorter in those spots.

Hey sir!  I saw the new storefront and the budget96 options.  If I buy a skeleton plate set, I realize it doesn’t come with acrylic like the original group buy. I have a budget96 with a high pro top.  Will the new plate sets work with the original board? Or are the holes different?

Yes the plates are still the same from the GB, the kits are just using wider standoffs to hold the plates since there's no middle. They can be swapped onto one of the GB boards no issue.

The initial flash is simple, just using the "firmware up" function of BootMapper to put the QMK hex on there. After that you have to hold Esc and LCtrl while plugging the board in to put it into the bootloader to flash it. Alternatively, there are slightly different instructions at https://config.qmk.fm/#/donutcables/budget96/LAYOUT_96_ansi.

Hi David,

thanks for the update, it is much appreciated.
Will you give out tracking numbers?
(I completely understand if that is too much hassle, given you are proxying for free)

@donutcat: May you provide CAD files for the middle layer so I may order prints if my fiancée it bothered too much?
It is her first groupbuy experience / custom build, after all.

Ah ****, I thought I had packed them in a way that would stop that. The single thick acrylic pieces *really* didn't deal with stress well; reminds me of some of my college years. PM me your order number.

Been meaning to upload these anyhow, here's the files for the:

Top plate - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1O_0vtXqQVyGjkwTsrirsKjUcJ_XLEIt9
Bottom plate - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1EzAcR4wp8cdp9ib897bsHYkDsnwWCFFL
Middle layer - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1WakVNZqeFnk3mf8d5VHm-F9fkvlTZKdJ

Plates are dxf and the middle is an svg prepped for laser cutting with the middle slices being 9mm nominal. I don't have the hipro file on hand, but I can either bug Jolimon for it or remake it in f360. At some point I should make these available on the github for the board that way they're more readily accessible.

Finally arrived here too! Quite nice build! Sadly i had the same broken acrylic layer - but david said he'd help me out there.  ;D
QMK running sweet on this PCB. As mentioned previously RGB mode-switching is not working. So has anyone a working-rgb config for QMK already and is willing to share or hint me to a path for getting it working? Can i take a look at another qmk-keep which would have a working implementation of this, for example the singa? Thanks for any input!

Edit: nevermind - got it working in QMK (ツ)

Edit: nevermind - got it working in QMK (ツ)

Thanks donutcat & david

Care to share your RGB qmk finds with us?  I haven't moved mine to QMK yet, but I plan to.

I try my best and hope this is of any use for you: https://github.com/dieideeistgut/qmk_budget96

With this RGB Controls are working fine for me. Aswell as all my other stuffy.

Finally arrived here too! Quite nice build! Sadly i had the same broken acrylic layer - but david said he'd help me out there.  ;D
QMK running sweet on this PCB. As mentioned previously RGB mode-switching is not working. Yes we haven't ported over the change to every Bootmapper Client board. Im curious why this was not submitted to QMK so that others could benefit. I'll be building my b96 pretty soon too.

Any EU Proxy acrylics that are broken - please find me on Discord and message me. I'll do a run of acrylic this side. https://discord.gg/mkW6X9
