There is a difference between these 2 piece caps and the 1 piece that I have never heard mentioned before. The 2 piece caps are actually slightly larger around the perimeter when compared to the 1 piece keycaps. I noticed this because the Y and U keys were touching. Then, I noticed that the gaps between all of the keycaps were narrower...interesting...

Really?  That's odd.  Both of my SSK's are different.  My Lexmark SSK has Single and my IBM has 2 piece.
Neither one has that issue.

It is weird. This is my 3rd SSK. All IBM. First 2 are from plant F4 and made in 1987 and have 1 piece. This newest one is F8 and made in early 1992. I'll have to get the calipers out to verify, but until then...

Those both look like the 2 piece on my F8 board...the gaps and the lighter numpad legends.

Yeah, you're right.  I thought it was single on the Lexmark.  It's not.  However, my 1370477's are.

Now those look more like the gaps on my one piece boards. It's subtle, but the gaps are wider on that pretty 1370477 compared to your sweet SSKs. :)

I don't think I like these caps as well as I do the 1 piece.

I may put this up for sale...

I had this IBM SpaceSaver II and I hated it... it has some super heavy rubber domes.

It's clearly a full sized one with SSK keycaps.

There's enough evidence shown in the picture to prove it's an SSK.  Without a doubt.

Maybe you'll want to find a picture of an SSK and fullsize and compare them yourself.

Nice, at 9:03 he's showing a SSK (missing a few keycaps apparently but nothing hard to fix), saying it's convenient that the Z170-A and Z170-Deluxe mobo's still come with a PS/2 port for those still enjoying rocking on Model Ms!

(found this because I'm planning to build a Skylake / M.2 SSD PCI-e 3.0 4x / system soon and was googling / searching YouTube for some infos)

Is he someone from GH?

How do the 'Yes' and 'No' keys work? And why the F1 and F2 are located in the arrow keys?

It's all the same under the covers.  The blue-capped I-SSK's you sometimes see come from (or were destined for) Mopar Diagnostic Systems using IBM hardware.  Those keys correspond to specific functions in the software, probably ones most often used.

Got my first SSK in the mail today! Very excited! Member of the club, finally.  :thumb:

I was browsing Pinterest the other day for keyboard ideas and came across this picture:
141995-0

My first thought was that they're custom caps from Unicomp. I emailed them asking about SSK caps and if they offered sub-legends with different colors. They emailed back saying they offer the sub-legends only in gray.
Anyone know what model these come from? I'm also thinking they may still be from Unicomp, but they don't offer that color anymore.

I am more curious than ever. I would think the regular controller would still allow you to use the extended features of the SSK without any problems, would it?
I believe it's the same controller for the SSK if I am not mistaken.

Doesn't have the same firmware.   You cannot active the embedded numpad when using a fullsize controller.

I just bought one of these. Does this count as well?

Technically it counts more than most of the keyboards posted as the thread is called the "Model M space saver club", while the SSK stands for "Space Saving Keyboard".

Yours is a "Space Saver II".  It's a decent keyboard for what it is,  I've thought of grabbing one as a travel board.

I can't be the only one that got this message:

Why was this split?

That link goes to this thread, which I'm already watching.  Why does it not give us the link to the thread that was split off?
