Cherry G80 Double-Shots in a CMSTORM Quick Fire Rapid?
« on: Fri, 05 October 2012, 05:06:08 »
Will double shot caps from Cherry G80s be compatible with a Cooler Master CMSTORM Quick Fire Rapid (blue cherry)? I'd like to know before I arrange to dig my DS Cherry boards out of storage (200 miles away). I have a G80-8100H and G80-8200H.

The font is so horrible on my new CMSTORM that it brought me out of GH retirement!

G80-8113HRBUS-2 will have every key for the Quick Fire Rapid, the only key I am a little unsure of is the spacebar. If the spacebar doesn't fit you can always just get one of these http://www.elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=access,cherrymxkeys&pid=sb_u2

G80-8200HPDUS-2 on the other hand your enter key as well as your \| key will not fit on the Quick Fire Rapid, also same thing with the spacebar

Right, as above. Space bar on Cherry has off center stem for the switch, so you can either epoxy one to use it or stick with an OEM profile spacebar. Enter and \| may or may not be compatible depend if you have ANSI or ISO enter version of the Cherry boards. The relegendable arrows and 6pack are all top row profile which may or may not bother you. Everything else will match up perfectly.

Great, Thanks for your input!  :D

I'll give this a shot and hopefully have a pretty good looking board. The cmstorm isn't the best looking beast, but it's a nice platform for the price.

Don't need a junky moogle kit for a G80-8***H**** board, they already have doubleshot 1.25 mods and centered stem caps lock. It's the best Cherry board to get for doubleshots. Only thing is the true ansi versions are much more scarce than the iso enter variant. Only con is they don't generally have doubleshot function and nav keys, so you may need to get those from another set.

I tried using the black on beige doubleshots of my old G80 (ISO) on my SS7G to switch out just the letters for some contrast
and the better feeling of doubleshots but unfortunately they have a lower profile and it feels very awkward so i had to switch them back.

G80 Double Shots on the CMSTORM turned out really nicely. I highly recommend this setup.

Keeping the CM logo keys looks rather odd. You should also track down the ansi 1.5 \| and 2.25 enter as well to complete the set.

Agreed. Eventually I'll buy blank logo keys and space-bar. Enter and \| are almost unnoticeable though.

Does anyone know of a cheaper source than elitekeyboards for blank enter and windows keys?

Is it cheaper than a $3.50 space bar?
