Awesome mod ripster.  You are totally nuts, and I love it.

PS sorry I didn't know what the heck I was doing, I accidentally modded your original post (I didn't make any mods but it put my name on it heh.  I had no contribution to this fine post!)

Good work.

Kind of makes me regret giving away that last smidgen of (bootleg) Lego I had in storage.
After getting some extra Cherry MX switches I'm considering embarking on a modding spree (replacing LCD display power buttons, PC power/reset buttons?  Maybe even IR remote controls with rubber-carbon membranes that inevitably fail).

That's such an awesome mod!!!   Very cool.    Now where can I find one of those trackballs??    I don't think I've ever used one of those??

Trackballworld for all things trackball.  But I got these pretty cheap on Ebay, like $40 for the CST and $10 for the CH.   Gotta be patient though.

I haven't been able to figure out how to open up the Kensington Expert or I would have done that one too.  If anybody knows please post.

Edit:  Opening it up is simple.  Peel off the rubber feet.

Which one do you like better??   I see that the last two DT225 trackballs went for $77 and $31 on ebay.   Gotta love the big bay for deals.

EDIT> Warning: I bought one of these and it was slightly too big (around 62mm?). It won't fit in a trackball like the CST without modifying it, e.g. widening the aperture.

I bet one of these would look great in that:

LASER 3D ART CRYSTAL FLYING DRAGON GLASS SPHERE 2 1/4"

This is a neat 3-Dimensional Laser Crystal with FLYING DRAGON design. Using computers, special software and finely tuned lasers, the 3D image is engraved inside a solid sphere of optical quality crystal without affecting the crystal surface.

The crystal is highly polished. IT'S BRAND NEW. [strike]The diameter of sphere is 2 1/4 inches[/strike].

I'm thinking this:

Nice work, Ripster. I'd like to figure out to replace the bearings in my Trackmen, if that is at all possible. They seize very shortly after cleaning. Anybody have any sapphire trackball bearings they don't need?

I guess if you can afford Ruby trackball bearings you can probably afford the installation and the LearJet to fly the guy to your house to do the work.

Ripster,

Does the clear 2.25" balls really work? or do you have them in there just for show. I have one about 57mm and I get no tracking.

ripster, since you are toying with a 3200 dpi one, are you gonna give this wiki an addendum, so the outer buttons can be jacked-in instead of soldered ?

Also, is the LED for DPI the same in the 3200 than in the "older" 1600 ?
