I just Got one of the IIyama 24" panels for £174 i think it was after tax etc and for a quick cheap replacement as one of my screens started failing. I can't find fault with it.

Has DVI-D, HDMI and VGA so all the inputs i like. a very narrow surround so very very little extra and the buttons are on the back so i dont have to see them during normal use which i al really happy about as i love a thing surround

If you can go 24", and find an extra $800, this baby looks amazing:

My 30" is DVI-D Dual Link. It should work with the mac DVI adapter. :P

I'll consider that baby if it's available, I previously pushed a 28.5" with my 24" iMac, what a great combo.

Demmi, you can come over and look at it during Key Con :)

Why would anybody want a chunky monitor in this day and age?

Get this and be done with it:

as much as I would love a 4K monitor myself (I was eyeing up Dell's 30" 4K monitor), the current 1st generation of 4K monitors are a dirty hack as far as I'm concerned, and I'm not getting one until this issue is resolved. Essentially these monitors are seen by computers as 2 displays, rather than one when running in 60Hz mode. I'm not willing to shell out the kind of money required for these monitors only to find out that there could potentially be issues with gaming etc. I'll sit it out until the tech is refined a bit.

Yeah, all but a couple of the current 4K displays don’t work with Mac OS X currently. Supposedly Apple folks are working on fixing that.

Overall, I’d guess smoothly functioning 4K displays are 6-12 months away.

Still, exciting times, after 10 years of desktop display stagnation.

I would hazard a guess that the reason they don't work may be due to this ridiculous DisplayPort MultiStream hack that these monitors are using.

No doubt, these are interesting times, just disappointed that I'm still gonna have to wait a while before I can get a display with crazy resolution. 2560x1600 will have to suffice! :p

I just was at the Apple store in Palo Alto…yea, pretty nifty with an all-glass-curved roof.
Checked out a 30" 4K display, pretty neat, but didn't put it through it's paces to see all it can do.
Was asking stupid questions repeatedly because I wasn't getting the answers I wanted. Cute girls working there seemed blissfully happy regardless.

Drooled over the 27" iMac…it's pretty damn sweet, wanna get it to update my 24" iMac. BUT…I've found for overall general use, a 23"-24" monitor is really outstanding and flexible. A 27" can blow your socks off and burn your retinas out if you come home late, it's dark and you jump on to check whatever…the 27"-28" I had didn't get used nearly as much as my 24" until it was needed to review plans, see movie/video, major web surfing/shopping/researching/megawindows. Apple also has the 21.5" which is fine as well, but I've been a 23"-24" fan for about 10 years when I had an Apple 23" Cinema Display.

So apparently Apple has fixed this in developer versions of the next OS X point release.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/7847/improving-the-state-of-4k-display-support-under-os-x

So my guess is that that will ship to consumers within a couple months, which is hopefully prelude to Apple also releasing some 4K displays sometime soonish after that. Maybe announced at WWDC in mid-June?
