I have 3 track lights over my desk that are pointing at a wall mostly with 2700K soft white bulbs giving some dimmer diffuse light.  Then I also use a tall floor lamp + side extension, both with some white diffuse translucent shades on and 3500K "bright white" CFL bulbs.  I pull out the floor lamp and adjust it next to whatever I take photographs of.  I have to adjust white balance on my camera so it looks right with those indoor lights.

Very well designed :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Try using a smaller aperture if you want more of the image in focus.  A tripod/self timer would probably help, too.

Check out used gear.  I bought a used Manfrotto from my local camera shop, cost was a fraction of a new unit, and it's rock steady.  You wouldn't know it from my pictures, mind you, but when I do use it, it's a real boost to image quality.

I also got a cheap remote shutter release/camera trigger, to minimize any shaking when taking longer exposure shots.  Beats the heck out of setting every shot for a 2-second delay...   :thumb:

I may do just that, good tripods are built to last so if I can get a good one for half the price of a new one than success!

I don't use a remote shutter (maybe I should get one, I don't know) I just always set the camera's self timer to 10 seconds or whatever when I am taking long exposure shots. Seems to do the trick for me.

Just get yourself an iPhone :)  Mashby takes some amazing photographs with his!  This is my camera, and it's far from top of the line.  Was a more budget-friendly bridge camera when I got it in 2011.

The most important thing I've found is 1. knowing your "instrument" well (manual + lots of practice), 2. strategic lighting, 3. composition.  You don't need a fancy DSLR to take good photographs.  I think $80-100 can get a "good enough" camera these days, and the rest would be well spent on some lamps and a tripod.
