Cannonball Run

Just seemed like a remake of Gumball Rally to me.

Cannonball and Gumball were actually filmed at the same time and released the same year, usually when this happens it means either something made major headlines or someone shopped the story around and one studio rejected it only to steal the idea and make something similar. Gumball and Cannonball both are loosely based on the race or the idea of it.

Cannonball Run which came later, is a actually a silly recreation of real events that occurred in the race. Many of the cars involved in the film were the ones actually used, the entire ambulance plot really happened, Hal Needham the director and writer drove that very one in the race. It's not a remake, it's proper telling.

F.Y.I. There are still people doing coast to coast runs and there was plans to run the race again in 2019 by a group of people who do it but I think word leaked or something and it was cancelled.

Been watching Big Fat Quiz. It can get a bit British at times, and occasionally I can;t even understand some of the guests, but it's fun to have on in the background.
I love David Mitchell and Richard Ayoade.

Disenchantment,  honestly, they did so much world building , the CGI's really nice, looks like very high res render, No aliasing.

There are some forced moments, but it's still the first season, they've got alot to work with, good foundation.  It's made by the same Futurama guys.

The Castle CGI is gorgeous.

Trying out my Spanish by watching “Boarding School - Las Cumbres” which is about a strict school stuck out in the middle of nowhere where teachers lock naughty kids up in cells and cut off their hair. Or something.

Watched "Postman always rings twice" for a first time. Waned to watch it so many times in the past, finally sat and did it.
How should I understand the title? What's the correlation of it with actual movie?

It's sort of Futurama meets Firefly.

I've just been watching YouTube, mostly. What I've been watching outside of that is... Scattered, to say the least. I've barely touched WandaVision, which my friends say I'll enjoy, but eh I've just not been feeling stuff that's a heavier time commitment.

Watching and very much enjoying Tenspeed and Brown Shoe on Prime. Really adore the character actors and writing on this show. Vereen and Goldblum are fantastic. They certainly don't write 'em like this no more boy 'o.

Woah, just saw Boss Level (2020).  Pretty sweet.

Did you like it, tp? I stopped watching after 30 minutes.
I think I'm getting old, cause those silly movies don't entertain me so much.

I agree it's been done. But the choreography and follow through is pretty top notch, and no unnecessary secs stuff which really adds to the maturity of the matter at hand.

On the off chance you're not familiar, you should check out the other British panel shows as well. QI, Would I Lie To You, 8 out of 10 Cats, etc. They all share guests/hosts amongst them, and David Mitchell is a team captain on Would I Lie To You.

The first episode was probably one of the funniest shows I've watched in a while, Alen Tudyk (Firefly) was born to play this part.

Resident Alien wasn't too bad, 6/10.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

The budget was like 90% the final scene. They really did crash a boat through a real resort town. Also the tanker they blew up was a real explosion and tanker.

They spent nearly $30mil on cast salaries which was the entire budget for the first one.

The second was budgeted $100mil then ran 60mil over, when you're that far over budget you start cutting a LOT of corners and that was already on top of losing the primary star. Throw in a big budget stunt and you get exactly what you got.

I always try not to get influenced by someone's opinion.
Missus said "lets watch this one" and she turned it on, so I sat and watched it :)

I've seen it, wasn't great. It is specific movie, not for everyone.

Stowaway 2021,   certainly not the worst space movie..  Plot's a little dated, but somewhat reasonable execution.

Been way better health-wise since they removed the tumor, but the bill put me in an even deeper financial hole. I don't get random fevers or feel tired all the time. But having to recover those 2 months with a split-open incision they could not sew back up was inconvenient, to put it mildly. All the walking everywhere while I was supposed to be taking it easy did not help :))

Yeah, that's what I thought straight away when you said you walk a lot, surely it doesn't help. Feel sorry for you dude. Keep it up :thumb:

Just watched Mortal Kombat and I thought it was fun for what it was. They did a good job with a girth of material and a limited budget bringing scope to something that was shot in a focused way. The film really seemed like groundwork for a franchise, building up lore and giving nods to the MK universe. I appreciated the humor and game references, like when Kano kept getting swept over and over by Liu Kang. Speaking of Kano he stole the show, I believe it was wise to save Johnny Cage and let Kano do his thing. You could also tell he was one of the few actors, while the rest of the cast were martial artists who could also act. I've heard some people complain about the acting in this movie but you gotta think about how amazing the fight scenes were. You got to pick a lane, and going with capable martial artists over big names probably both saved budget and made for far superior fight scenes.
They did my boy Goro dirty, but with all the characters that appeared in this small movie you can bet the next one with a bigger budget will be much meatier.

I actually would not mind that at all. A franchise could be pretty cool. If they don't go completely off the rails.
Watched the movie as well and pretty much agree with you about your points.
