Check out the wireless hardware in the pic.

[edit]Oh, just searched for the other threads that mention it's out of production. Sorry for the new thread.

Well, it's going back into production!

I had one briefly in November - the first of a new batch, although it had some problems and the Bluetooth connection was a little unreliable.  As I understand it, Filco are making some modifications and it should then be available again later this year.

Simon.

I don't suppose you have any more precise idea when "later this year" means?  The wait is already killing me!

Duke Nukem Forever WAS going to ship this year too.

And hasn't this has been claimed for every year since 1998?

TDK, do you work for Diatec or another retailer/manufacturer?  I'm just wondering how were able to get ahold of a wireless Filco sample; I'm not trying to be rude, just asking.

Nope, I don't work for or have anything to do with a retail/manufacturer - I'm just an enthusiastic consumer!  :-)

I persuaded the importer to sell me their sample as they weren't using it.  Unfortunately it had a faulty Bluetooth chip so I had to send it back.  Apparently this is being addressed in manufacturing and a revised version should be available shortly - I don't have any further information than that I'm afraid!

I sent an email to Diatec inquiring about the FKBT104M/EB and here is an excerpt from the response:

"Regarding your wanting model “FKBT104M/EB”,
I am afraid that this model has already been
discontinued item and we have no more stocks.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience.
However we are now developing new alternative model
for this wireless model! Please kindly wait till then."

I replied asking if any release date information was available, and here was the response:

"We are very happy to know that you are
already interested in our new coming product.
However this item is still under development and
any of the information are not open to the public yet.
Please check [sic] our web site or our distributors web site
and they will keep you updated."

The plot thickens...

Meet with a manufacturer this past weekend and they confirmed a blue tooth model in the very near future if that helps.  Also, Tactile Pro should be ready to ship soon.

Later......Ms Keyboard

Not really anything to shout about, LOTS of 3D TV and related.  Bluetooth seems to be getting all the attention with the manufacturers right now, even had a couple models capable of syncing with iPhone and Blackberry.  One item that was interesting was a glove by Peregrine that is capable of being programmed into replacing keystrokes on your keyboard, mostly aimed at the gamer crowd.

Other than that it seems lots of people missing this year.  Did not find Lenovo or Creative, and the booths seemed considerably smaller for those big presenters like Microsoft and Intel.  A big push this year for interactivity.

As far as keyboards go there is more attention being paid to Mechanical switches, but membrane is still dominant in availability and design.  Tried a couple new switches that were membrane but had very distinct feedback, should be interesting to see how everyone likes those.

Overall, it seems everyone is catering to CHEAP in just about everything, and very few seemed concerned with quality or lack thereof.  Also, tried to find Ripster a new "model", but that offering was also extremely limited and lacked the quality this forum has come to expect!  Maybe next year.

Later......MsKeyboard

PS....I think it is time we resurrect Comdex!

Would I be correct in assuming that this keyboard would have the same non-NKRO characteristics as a wired USB non-NKRO (since the Bluetooth receiver connects to the PC via USB)?

Wireless controllers always make me feel numb, with results following my gestures by detectable amounts.

I note all three of my wireless products are hand-me-downs from a Logitech employee. Anyone have a comment on differences in latency by vendor or technology? Is this all in my head?

USB can offer nkey rollover. However, the keyboard controller must implement nkey, and a driver must be written. The standard driver for HID keyboard does not suffice. The USB HID spec was implemented with 6-key, because that works for 80% of the cases.

The 80/20 rule: 20% of us ranting about the mediocrity tolerated by the other 80%.
