RESULTS: GH key giveaway
« on: Mon, 10 May 2010, 19:38:57 »
Well, the giveaway is over.

Quote
1. I will trade one GH key for...something.  The most interesting (to  me) offer will win (this does not, necessarily, have to be something of  high value).  Those interested should PM me with their offer.  PM topic  should be "GH key trade".  You can only make one offer (first PM I  receive from you).  If you post your offer publically, your offer will  be void. (the winning offer will be revealed, of course...unless the  winner wishes it not to be)

2. I will auction one GH key off on eBay.  This will be a one week  auction with no reserve, and free shipping worldwide.  If you wish to  allow someone to walk away with one for pennies, that's fine with me.   Any actual money made will go into the geekhack fund (account I use for  geekhack-related expenses).  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=180502937620

3. I will give one GH key away to a "nominated" geekhack member.   Nominations are submitted in this thread.  You cannot nominate yourself  nor can you plead your own case...only campaign for other members who  have been nominated.

4. I will give the last GH key to either the second-best offer, another  deserving, nominated member, or via a fourth method which you can  suggest and discuss in this thread also.  :)

One key will be accompanied by a NIB keyboard (with brown or blue  Cherries) and one will be accompanied by an autographed picture of yours  truly (regardless of whether you want it or not).  :) This will be  randomly determined.
Here are the results:

Private trade
I have accepted a trade offer and will post a pic of what I received once it arrives.  The winner is free to reveal themself if they choose to.

eBay auction
eBay auction was won by eBay'er "j8s8n".  I assume this is J888www.  Congrats!

Nominations
This turned out to be a bit disappointing.  My ulterior motive was to give the key to a member who had expressed disappointment in not getting a key, but still had the heart to nominate someone else.  No such luck.  :)

So, I turned to the actual nominated members.  I decided that the key should go to one of the nominated members that actually expressed interest in acquiring a key in the order thread.  While members such as lamy and sandy are certainly deserving, they weren't members that expressed interest and simply missed out.  So that thinned things out making the decision pretty easy.  Congratulations to Vils!

Random
I decided to give this key to Meltie.  (The Ant and the Aardvark rule)  ;)

It´s almost three in the morning here, I really should go to bed. Something nice to dream about though.

Four geekhack keys were mailed out this morning...along with "other stuff".

(veteran members outclassed in the trade competition by an 8 post newcomer...sad)   :)

You sent a Key without receiving payment from the eBayer ?  surely that's far too trusting. I hope the ebayer sends you a little message to your ebay Account to say thank you.

Yep, sent it out without receiving payment.  :)

The eBay auction was simply another way for someone to obtain a key...money was not a motivation, so why wait for payment?

As far as I'm concerned, paying is optional...you'll get good feedback regardless.

Please check ebay messages, they don't provide an option to alter the payment.
Made the offer before I read this post, thought I might pay approx half of max bid.

Edit, no need, I found another way.

I'm also interested in seeing the other offers! You don't have to give away who they where but I want to see what the competition was.

Maybe I needed to offer a 5,000...

Two jiffy bags landed on my door mat today. One from iMav and one from signature plastics.
First of all, thanks iMav, the lovely Geekhack key have now replaced the win-key on my wife´s Filco mini (brown cherries) and she loves it almost as much as i do.
In the bag from SP there were 2 white on red Esc keys for cherries and 2 for alps. There were also a simple keycap puller I bought, worked better than the paperclips I´ve used so far but not great.  Must get hold of something better.
The stem mount for the alp cap  were much longer than the original SMK-85 cap I intended to replace. But after some shaving with an xacto knife it fitted quite well.
I´ll post some pics of the beuties when I can get hold of a camera.

BTW To my utter disappointment I did not win the autographed portrait of our leader...

My geekhack key just arrived and I want to say thank you again to iMav. I put it on my currently in use keyboard, a Filco tenkeyless with browns.
