"I'm Sorry Bro Caps: or, There's No Blacklist"

I started entering Bro Caps sales about a year ago. After I missed out on the first 3 or 4 I entered I started trashing Bro on Reddit and on GH. I was having girl troubles and took it out on a guy who makes keycaps that I'll never meet. I blamed the system. I blamed the fabled "blacklist." I blamed all of the people who did win who were obviously just more connected than I was. I openly talked s*** about Bro and his work because I was salty about not winning. Bro respectfully called me on it a few times and I just (mistakenly) chalked it up to him being some smug a$$hole that only sold his caps to his friends. I wanted to believe that I wasn't winning because Bro didn't like me; it was somehow easier than chalking it up to pure luck.



I entered the last few sales out of spite knowing that I wouldn't win. This morning I woke up to an email from Bro saying I'd won. Instead of being elated, I felt ashamed. I felt ashamed for all the times I talked s***.  I was sick with myself for getting my Jimmies so rustled that I attacked a guy online over nothing. I spent months alienating myself from 2 communities that I enjoy very much over nothing. If there was a blacklist, I would have (rightfully) been on it months ago.

Like most people said, big kudos to you, dood. It really does take a huuuuge amount of courage to eat your own words and apologize. Not only that, you were willing to expose your weakened state and confront the issues that you had in a realistic and rational demeanor. I don't know if I would have been able to do the same thing in your situation.

Thanks Hoff. Things are absolutely fabulous for me now and with that came the realization that it's time to stop lashing out at others when I'm bummed out. I've spent the last few months mending relationships in my personal life and when I got the email today I realized that I needed to make amends here. I'm 25. I haven't been as happy as I am now since I was 16 back in 2006.

GH is a pretty forgiving place if you're humble and give other users the benefit of the doubt.

The board is ostensibly about keyboards but IMO it's really just a safe environment for selfish manchilds (menchildren?) to learn basic life skills: emotional maturity,¹ budgeting, etc. Results are mixed but often uplifting.

¹ First-come first-serve artisan sales, for example, are the ultimate test.

2. Rarar. This guy acts the fool and is generally an ass. Gets called out and muted. Takes a break from GH. Comes back to say hi, mostly mild reactions. Comes back again, welcomed back by forum members. GOOD RARAR.

Pacifist and demik broke different rules in different fashions, so not really a direct comparison.  I cannot comment on rarar since that was before my time as a mod.
