Lots of awesome photos in here, it would be awesome if everyone could start putting up shots on KeyPuller!
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Not really keycaps or a keyboard, but played with my prime a bit & polarized filter.  :)

What are these? Gold springs and stabs with switches housing?

Show Image

Gold-plated stabilizers.

#GOLD

Alright. Are they pure aesthetics or are there another reason to go for it?

Pretty much aesthetic...and man are they purdy!

'but maybe the gold plating makes the stabilizer smoother. :p

3 different batches of modern MX Blues. PCB, Plate, Plate.
Left one has a sharp & snappy click, Middle has a soft click, and the right one is an amputee (not as sharp of a click as the left one, but more than middle).  :'(

Thats kinda ****ty, sorry dude...  Are they all mixed together or are they at least separated already?

Naw, they were from different batches/boxes of blues. The PCB mount ones were my first batch, and light blue ones were from another. The one with the broken nib is just from a Ducky keychain I had / it's my experimental switch so it's sorta beat up. :))
Just found it interesting that there was that much variance in blues.

Decided to buy some acrylic paint today to fill the engraving on my Geekhack 6th Anniv MX Keychain. It works a lot better than expected. :D

Granted, the engraving/etching is a bit shallow and the lines show through but the effect is much more pronounced on letters with a deeper profile.

Just slather it in acrylic paint from your local hobby store and wipe away the excess with some paper kitchen towels or old credit card for the really fine lines.
Clean up with some Isopropyl alcohol, Articlean or some hot water once it has dried a bit.

$286 shipped.  + ~$50 for switches + ~$130 for keycaps.

Total ~$450 for an entire built keyboard.

Nah. He was a being a massive ass. I live in a residential area and he was having parties/ making a ton of noise all the time. He also had an atv that he used to trash other peoples' yards. The only time I met him made me never want to meet him again.

Ebony wrist rest from massdrop. It's nice but it doesn't seem like it is sealed so I need to do something about that. (My wrists make the wood matte and light where they rest, but that can be fixed by putting mineral oil on it, but then it just happens again, so that isn't a long term fix)

I'll be happy to look after that little CC for you so it doesn't get covered in fish oil!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Since there are no international keycaps on the Das Keyboard 4, I finally decided to make a custom one. Started with the blank keys but it was sometimes a bit annoying when I had to type with one hand, for confirmation codes and so on. Right, the perfect excuse ;)

WASD Keyboards made a wonderful job, overall I'm very satisfied! They did have to reprint a couple of keys, but the difference from the specs was very minor, barely noticeable, and they were quick and reactive to the problem, even gave away a few stabilizer inserts I needed for free :)

The material is pleasant to the touch, which was my main concern. It's still ABS but I find the touch feeling on par with the original keys from Das Keyboard, even slightly better, perhaps a tad rougher and so less slippery due to the print process - that may not be true if you compare to the printed keycaps of the Professional version, I couldn't say since I have the Ultimate.

If you want to swap the keycaps on the Das, don't forget to get those stabilizer inserts, you'll need 6 pairs; Metadot had the stupid idea of glueing their inserts to the keycaps, so most of them can't be recovered! Other than that, the keycaps are completely compatible with the Das Keyboard.

The colours are quite correctly rendered, though if you look the keycaps from some angles you notice the process artefacts. It looks a little like a print from a dot printer: successive horizontal bands. But it's only if you look at extreme angles under a grazing light source, under normal circumstances it is not visible. You can see what I mean on the right of the photograph below, especially the numpad return key.

88457-0

PS: the font I used is overlock, this is an open-source font, easy to find. Don't forget to remove the fonts from the .svg when you send it to WASD, it's not described on their website but you have to do it. Here's how:

Quote
In Inkscape:
Select all of your text/fonts, then go Path > Object to Path (Ctrl + Shift + C)

In Illustrator:
Select all of your text/fonts, then go Object > Expand… (Expand both Stroke and Fill)

Is the only difference between DCS, OEM, and Cherry the height of the keys? I know the difference between OEM and Cherry, but not DCS, unless DCS is SP's naming.

DCS is Signature Plastic's "version" of Cherry profile. The keycaps are very thin and light weight. "OEM" profile is the general term used to name stock keycaps that come on Filcos, Ducky, CM etc. Cherry profile keycaps are usually thick, and is the exact same profile that GMK offers with their thick DS ABS keycaps.
