Ok, not saying this is a final version or anything, but I really wanted to try and mix these together somehow.  GMK Cyan + Triumph Adler + RGB:

Yeah, it's a bit Handarbeit-ish now...  But I kinda like it like that.  And since I don't have a matching white 7x spacebar for the Cyan set, this sort of works.

Oh, come on. No color scheme can come close to Handarbeit.

And I also mixed Cyan, Triumph Adler, and RGB yesterday. Oh, and Electric Bluegaloo, and some artisans.

Pix or it didn't happen! ;)  By "Handarbeit-ish" I meant that it's an odd mix of colors.

I think it might look a bit better if you remove the RGB mods. Interested to see how it looks if you put the TA mods there instead.

realized how much time i was wasting taking a bunch of pictures from the same angle just so i could sort through them all to find the "least blurry" picture (shaky hands) and decided to buy a tripod for my camera... which led me to buying a cheapie lightbox setup.

Show Image

now begins the process of learning how to properly use my phone camera, lighting, color correction, and all the other **** that goes into taking pictures :P

i will say the tripod alone was worth the cost of everything- the satisfaction from taking the first picture knowing the shot was much more stable.... so. damn. good.

Tripod is such a great investment, makes shooting stuff a million times easier.

What kinda camera you shooting with?

Wait what! If you hadn't mentioned the blue grey I'd be convinced that's a new board.

When you get the CE you should take a picture with them next to each other in the same lighting. I knew the blue was dark but not THAT dark.

I'll definitely take a side by side shot. You don't really notice the blue grey unless it's in direct light. Here's a better shot of the color.

My D3100 and its prime lens are starting to die a slow death, so I figure it's time for me to upgrade.

I'm prepared to spend about £600 on a new body and one or two lenses. I have no brand loyalty and I would prefer to buy second hand if it means I can get more for my money. I don't really photograph much except for keyboards, so I had a good 50mm prime lens in mind, and perhaps an 18-55(ish) zoom lens just for anything the 50mm can't handle. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Besides that I think we need a budget to make a suggestion. I've been through a few cameras recently and went to my local camera show and at the least handled each of the prosumer bodies while I was there so I might be able to make a solid suggestion

Edit saw 600... Lol. Toilet surfing ftl

Since it's mostly keyboards have you considered mirrorless at all?  Is it just your body going or does the lens have life left?

The autofocus motor in the lens has been dead a long time, so they'll both be going.

I'm not concerned about the size of the camera. I'm only concerned with what gives the best performance for the money I'm willing to spend. The one area where mirrorless may have the edge is video, which would be a very handy thing to have. However, since I would like to buy second hand I think that mirrorless may be a bad choice given that it's only recently become so viable.

A used full frame canon 5d can be found for around 3-500 usd. It has a particular look to it that the user base is fond of.  Be aware that there was a mirror recall for it though and the repair was free by canon.

This tool was a big help when I was looking at iso performance. I imagine there wouldn't be a big difference in image quality at 800 iso when you compare current cameras to cameras from 2 generations back.

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/studiocompare.asp

This combined with hand holding cameras for the handling I liked lead me to keep with Canon.

IF you can find a sony a6000 mirrorless used I'm  sure almost everyone would be happy with it's image quality.   The used lens market pricing is pretty good for it too. The a6300 just released so I'm sure plenty of people are willing to unload it for the newest tech.
