1) Threadcrapping: If you aren't interested in joining a group buy, STAY OUT OF THE GROUP BUY THREAD. This goes doubly so if you disagree with the way the buy is being run, the product being purchased, or have any other complaint not relevant to buying into the group buy. Repeat offenders put themselves in danger of moderator action.

Might I suggest a subforum for closed group buys? That way people can continue posting in the threads about the group buys they are a part of, possibly waiting for delivery, but that are no longer placing or changing orders, while group buys that are currently being planned and ordered can remain the top priority in the main forum.

I think this is a solid idea, it allows you to keep track of whats current more easily instead of thread page hunting and PM'ing the OP if you cant come on all of the time.

we've already discussed this and decided not to further fragment the forum. the thread subscription feature is a better way to keep tracked of the status of your paid-for buys.

The objective, unfortunately, wasn't to keep track of the paid-for buys, but to easier see the new buys going up. The new group buys can get lost very easily, although I do see the argument for not wanting to further fragment the forum.

in that case a prefix system with a simple filter might work best.

so, you could filter by

[IC]
[ORDERING]
[INVOICING]
[PAID]
[SHIPPING]
[DONE]

something like this? i've never hacked on vB; imav should  have some idea of how feasible this is.

That would be an awesome idea. Most GB organizers are already doing this by manually adding the tags into the thread title.

but you can't currently filter by prefix, which would solve the [CLOSED] crowds out [ORDERS OPEN] problem

Since when is the group buy subforum hard to navigate?  There are at most 10 active at any one time.  Plenty of room on the first page.

I like the idea of a prefix system like the classifieds forum has.

Yeah it's a good idea not because this forum is hard to navigate per say, but because it would help keep the forum a lot more organized by standardizing the prefixes as well as providing filtering options. I'm fine both ways, but if it's not too hard to add, might as well ;)

we couldn't do banners, because we as a forum won't endorse any particular buy for liability etc reasons. however, there may be some clever way to get vB to do an "announcements only" thread subscription mode...

How about we have a sticky thread in GBs for announcements and you can subscribe to it.  The only posts allowed in said thread are GB leads announcing stuff.

Kinda like this one?  Which one of you wants to volunteer to maintain that thread? =P

I'd rather have one person maintain the thread to keep eveything organized and in order.  I'm also open to suggestions if we should add anything to it. =)

And also to GB's organizers, please close your IC thread once the Group Buy thread for that keycap is up and running (ie. taking orders).

why don't you just jump in at the start ? >>

You don't have to wait till the end to place your order.

Why jump in the beginning when many never happen.

How many never happen? More than 90% do happen. GBs can’t work when no one jumps in at the beginning. Also:

Please look below.  MANY never happen.

Yeah, like… Uhm… The Miami set, I guess? Due to lack of interest. Maybe it’ll happen anyway. And the Topre red alert stuff, but that always was unsure and just to check interest. Same thing with the alps double shots. Anything else? In case you don’t know, round 4 is over.

There’s just no interest at all. :P
You can tell from the first page if it’s going to happen or not. Not that difficult. But I agree that sorting options would be nice, if just to distinguish between vague IC stuff and actual GBs.

I actually like that, I don’t check classifieds, too much spam there, but their stuff is actually interesting.

Moogle kits already are closed and paid for, the only reason you can still get in (I think) if you’re nice is that hashbaz is waiting for the prototype. Everyone already paid, so it is HIGHLY unlikely to fall apart, you’ve got no excuse not to jump in.

I said you might still get in if you’re nice, I didn’t promise anything. :P
It’s just technically possible, nothing else. You can try bribing hashbaz.

/e: Actually I was quite concrete there.

ribbing him for the all the hard work he's put into making the buy come out perfect may not be the best way to get into the buy

ripster, your 57K posts indicate that you have no trouble following the group buys you are interested in, like everyone else does.  You just enjoy complaining about them.

A wiki article with all group buys would be nice.

No need to close IC threads when doing it all in one thread.

It's sad looking back over old GB's and noticing how many people have up and left or done the dirty on people :(
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.
