I just did this (http://www.unplggd.com/unplggd/how-to/how-to-double-your-internet-browsing-speed-on-firefox-074649) and everything on the net is like instant now. I highly recommend it — since I did it an idiot can.

I don't use Firefox, but #s 1 and 3 would actually slow down Firefox for my typical browsing behavior.
I'd only do #3 if I had my swap file in a RAM disk. (Makes no sense, except there's a driver for 32-bit versions of Windows that uses the ~0.7-1.0 GiB of inaccesible RAM as a RAM disk.)
-
I dig it the way it is.
-
I don't use FF, but I was curious to see what the tweaks were. What I found funny is, when I was reading the page, there was a big ad stating "download Google Chrome."

That turns into a real knee slapper for me since Google Chrome isn't out for Mac and might not be for a long time if ever.

It's in development now, but it won't be out for a couple of months. There is an article on Gizmodo on it (I can't link to it, because WebSense categorizes Gizmodo as "sex"). I think there was one on ArsTechnica, too, but I can't find it now that they changed their site up.
-
They probably categorize it as Sex because Gawker Media does have a couple sex blogs.
Send an e-mail to Websense, though, requesting that they recategorize Gizmodo, as it's technology-related. (And Jalopnik is probably blocked too, and is automotive-related.)

Google Chrome set to release for Mac this summer (Ars Technica) (http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2009/01/google-chrome-set-to-release-for-mac-this-summer.ars)

Yeah, we'll see if it happens. I gave up on Google's Mac development years ago. And besides, I actually like FireFox. So how is Chrome? I've never even seen it.
-
Lightweight and fast. TAbbed, feels a bit like opera.
-
Now watch — the Mac version will be like IE 4.
-
Enabling pipelining is definitely recommended. Opera has had this by default for years and is one of the big reasons it has had such a reputation for speed in the past.
I wouldn't worry about any of the other settings.

I'm not a real fan of chrome. Firefox is really a much better browser now, particularly 3.1. I hated 2.0. I didn't like 3.0.* much, but 3.1 and 3.2_pre are a lot better.
Good article though ;) great suggestions in there. (i never used ff much i didn't even know it had about:config)

Arent most of these things done by the FasterFox add on?
-
I hated (FF) 2.0.
Yeah, FF 2 is why I tried Opera and Camino and all those others.
