Been a slow few weeks for me, unexpected things just keep coming up & they have been burning through my usual "play money".
But, hey that's life!
Anyways back on topic, I did get my order from Mehkee's LED/SIP GB that I forgot I even ordered (always a nice bonus when you forget you've ordered something
)
I got 2 packs of Sky Blue 1.8mm LEDs, 1 pack of Warm White 1.8mm LEDs, & 2 packs of short leg SIP sockets. Which finally allowed me to complete this build below.
Overall I'm digging the Sky Blue LEDs with GMK Sky Dolch look but I was hoping the LED's color was a little closer to the blue in Sky Dolch. I SiP socketed all the switches so a LED color swap is very easy for this board. I may give the Warm White LEDs a try when I have chance to cut enough to fit the SIPs on this board.
On another note though, I thought I may have made a mistake by ordering the short leg SIP sockets. Even the CS from Mehkee told me that they are better used for PCB mount builds than plate mounted ones. Well after my first use of them today I have to say they are superior to long leg SIPs in every way IME. The socket itself on the short legs is slightly bigger which makes them fit perfectly in the switch housings (i.e. no vertical movement of the SIPs when thew board is turned up side down). The legs ended up perfectly flush with the back of the PCB making for very clean looking solder joints with no clipping of the legs needed. All in all IMHO they just work better than long leg SIPs & significantly cut down on the time involved in SIP socketing a whole board, not to mention they are cheaper also. A big win/win in my book & I highly recommend trying them if you get a chance!
