Hiya folks, this is TT from Owlab. Voice65% was such a successful project and we thank you all for supporting us to convert unorthodox ideas to the actual products in your hands. It was an extremely challenging ride with difficulties, luck and satisfying results. We gathered feedbacks along the way and realized that there are issues we need to address in the upcoming projects. With our pursuit towards the endgame, we present you our latest design – Jelly Epoch.

Ink&Navy

264796-0

264838-1

264840-2

Ruby

265846-3

265848-4

Sage

265850-5

265852-6

Dewdrop

265854-7

265856-8

265858-9

265860-10

Jelly is the first thing that come to our mind when thinking about springy or boing boing feeling. Jelly epoch represents our wish to bring you the same surprise and bounciness when enjoying the jelly desserts as kids. Lots of sophisticated attempts have been arranged towards that goal. Please allow me to elaborate a bit further.

264798-11

Hightlight:

Jelly Gasket
You may or may not heard about the evolution of the gasket-mount.
As we see it, the first batch of gaskets used silicone-alike materials which don’t absorb the vibration very well,
and softer materials such as PORON were introduced in the second batch of gasket designs to address that problem. Yet, one issue remained is the method of installation.
According to the feedback from our last sale, traditional gaskets have created confusions and inconvenience during installations.
First of all, it’s generally hard to make it perfect straight without the help of tools.
Secondly, only top and bottom of the spring leaves are insulated by gaskets while the sides of the spring leaves might direct contact the cases if not precisely installed.
Lastly, not everyone reads the build guide so some of the customers might be unsure of the location to put on those gaskets (on cases or spring leaves).
Hence, we came with the jelly gasket jackets to solve all these problems at once.

264800-12

264804-13

Jelly gaskets insulate the sides of the spring leaves and they are not sticky at all.
Silicone as a material isn’t flexy enough, so we designed a customized shape of the gasket to help address that problem.

Ultra Flex PCB

264802-14

Grooves aren’t something new to the plates. We have those in the space between F-row and the number row too.
In addition to that, we believe the installation fixates the plate and the PCB together thus it is necessary to lessen the rigidity of the PCB as well.
5 grooves, along with a reduction in the thickness of the PCB (don’t worry about the stabs, we have accessories to ensure the compatibility),are our solution to the problem.
We have faced great challenges in wiring, and it took us four attempts to reach the final version. Luckily, the result is so satisfying that we cannot wait to let you try it out in hand.

Composite dual-layer foam
“Find your own Voice.” was our target to help enthusiasts exploring different build paths therefore figuring out your preference.
Paths are different because of the characteristics they present are contradicting each other.
For example, Poron would be a good represent to the “mute” feeling due to its great absorption of vibration
but it might not be the type of thing for a brass plate lover, who wants rigid bottom out.

Jelly Epoch, however, is our attempt to express our preferred mix of typing feeling as well as a sound profile we love.
Multiple materials were recommended by our friends in the acoustic industry. Two boxes of combination tryouts later,
we have a composite dual-layer foam that delivers a sound profile like shaking the wite-out (correction fluid) and a boing boing typing feeling, thanks to its synergy with the ultra-flex PCB.

Plates
PC plate goes well with gasket-mounts just like the BBQ and beer so yeah it comes with the kit.
Alu plate will be offered extra. It has better rigidity so we believe leaf-spring would be a better approach to give it more flexiness.

Appearances

Same as Voice65%, the gasket-mount structure is hidden in the top and middle case.
It’s costly but it would allow more design features on the sides of the case and more levels of details.
Sandblasting is improved to 180 mesh. We had to locate another CNC factory with a better control of machining marks and the overall cost has increased.

264810-15

264812-16

At around 2kg or 4lb, that huge weight is our ways of reducing the size and inconsistency of the echo chamber.
Weight is tightened with four screws on the left and right, and the LED diffuser is hiding between the bottom case and the weight and gently glows as ambient light,
with the help of the daughterboard. This is probably the most subtle part of the design that combines functionality and appearance.
Lastly, we centered and lowered the USB-C socket according to your opinions in the last round of IC/GB post.

264836-17

Oh the cherry on top, yeah it’s the famous jelly brand that y’all must have heard about, gotta pay the homage.

Would be nice to see some boards in the hands of other streamers. Nothing wrong with the current ones, but I pretty much already guess what switches are going to be used and therefore how it’s going to sound.

Yeah and it makes sense in many ways :) They’re all some of the bigger streamers. But also very US oriented. A bigger one that streams EU friendly times for example would be Topclack / Jae.

(And me but I’m still a relatively small streamer :P)

yeah over 90% of our last sale went to US hence we put more focus on that. Def considering more EU exposure in next projects. We'll try to arrange some PST early morning stream to accommodate the EU audiences. Least we could do.

Curious question - if you're spending all this effort to make a nice springy board and plate design, why have plate/PCB foam that will negate all the benefits of a springy plate?

Where's the plate flexing into other than the soft foam?

I think this is really interesting.  The voice65 was unique, but came at a time for me when I was currently waiting on 2 other 65s that whos designs I preferred.  I am not fully sold on the aesthetics of this board yet, but I really really like how you guy detailed your design decisions.  I do agree with others in that I wish it was sold without foam.

Foam is an acoustic-based decision rather than a typing feeling oriented one.
It is totally ok to build without the plate. According to our tests, the entire plate+foam+pcb combo is still quite springy as a whole and it provides a tad of consistency to the sound without giving up too much on they flexy feeling.

Instead of aiming at a flexy plate or PCB separately, we believed it is necessary to look at the plate + pcb together and make the entire thing bouncy. With that said, foam is an acoustic-oriented accessory which can be leave out during the build. We just think it sounds better that way while stlll maintaining springy enough.

Man, it's amazing how you are able to do in-stock sales so frequently. I have bought a few boards before the Voice65 and still not gotten any of them yet, but you are already ready to deliver another 700 units on a completely new board. I really don't know how you do it, big props.

75% isn't my favorite layout, and I'm not a fan of the 1u blocker above the arrow keys, but nonetheless, I like the Voice too much to pass up on this board.

Are the taller front height and higher typing degree intended to be more comfortable than that of the Voice65?

Our team thinks 6 degree on Voice65% and the low front height is good for users that likes to type without a wrist rest

with that said,
1. a higher front can accomondate people that want to use a wrist rest while most people would do just fine without
2. the angle is larger at 7 degree so flat height keycaps will have a better typing experience

comfortable is quite subjective and we are looking to make more people happy
if you perfer a higher typing angle then this is a better choice than Voice65%
hope this answer your question :)

Thank you very much for your support! We have learnt a lot from last sale so this project wouldn't reach this stage without your suggestions and feedbacks from Voice65%.
In-stock will always be our preferred method of sale and this project actually started before Voice65% was sold.
We are simply pushing the usual gb timeframe up and start the promo of our new projects when it's about to end production. :)

Like the idea of this and going to try and pick one up, got a voice65 and love it. The one thing I will say is the tag thing on the left side just gives me anxiety, lol I can see it getting hung up on stuff easily.
