Yup, it sure does work! And it's amazing!

My build (just pictures)

Sifo's build (with a video)

It's powered by an ATMega16 and it can be reprogrammed to be the microcontroller for a keyboard :D

i3oilermaker said they'd go on sale on his website soon, apparently he ordered a buttload. They were going for $5 at Keycon.

Dude I loved this, it was definitely my favourite thing at KeyCon. I can't explain how ****ing cool it is to me, lol. I don't use mine for anything practical atm but it chills and I plug it in whenever I need to go to techkeys.us because I'm lazy.

Looks like 1k SMD resistors. That means I can use the orange LEDs I have!! Whenever these go on sale that is!

EDIT: The resistors come pre-installed right? Either way no biggie.

Sales of WASD Sampler Kits soar in the lead-up to Techkeys business card sale.

Actually, how many businesses can actually SELL their business cards?

It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. Trust me - I am selling these cards for a loss :)

I'm made them because:

1) I think its awesome.  I spend my TechKeys profits on fun things like this - I don't need the money to pay bills
2) I think it has the potential to go viral spreading the word on our hobby (Hence the delay in launch - getting materials prepped)
3) Reason #2 would be good for TechKeys if more people buy keys.

It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Exactly my thoughts / sentiment.  Would love get one if reprogramming would not require writing my own firmware for it from scratch.  I've searched here for ATMEGA16U2, and only 2 hits came up--neither very relevant.

TMK firmware should work. metalliqaz' Easy AVR also supports 32U2.

I tried to TMK it... didn't work out for me. :(

Not sure about qaz' program... care to chip in, metalliqaz? I've been sitting on this thing for half a year and still haven't figured out how to program it. If I can I'd buy another one.

Wow, that was quick -- while I was porting over the firmware I received a tracking number. Just two hours after ordering ! :) I'm impressed. Port is done as far as it goes w/o the physical hardware, let the waiting for the package begin...

ukbdc seems unnecessarily complex for this board, don't you think?  Couldn't you just tell us what you used to program them and let us see your code??

This is a programmable keyboard controller, and you can make it the controller for a keyboard (ex. IBM Model M).  Why would you want a firmware lacking in capability?  Just curious

Yes, it is. But it should be simple to use once it's finished. If Brad wants to release the source for what's on the board originally, he will, parts of it are based on ukbdc anyway, which I don't mind. But I won't release it since I wrote in on commission.

Komar - I'm ok with you opening up the source if you want to put together a quick how-to on compiling and deploying the code.

Feel free to create a new thread in the TechKeys Vendor forum.

Okay, no problem. The thing is, the current code is totally based on ukbdc and it won't help very much, because of being rather messy. It wasn't designed to be changed, if you know what I mean:D
ukbdc is slowly getting easier to use and more modular, but also larger, so I thought I'd write new support for the card using it. But in this case, maybe I'll just provide the working code for techkeys as it is, and finish ukbdc support later.

Got mine in the mail yesterday, loaded switches & LED's, and hacked it -- trinket w/ the most utile ever ! ;D

I do have one remark tho -- if there ever will be another batch made, I would strongly suggest to change the LED resistors to 1 kOhm (102). Right now they are 100 Ohm (101), driving most LED's betw. 14mA (3.6V LED) and 31mA (1.9V LED). I got a bunch of different LED's from maxkeyboard and digikey and all are fine w/ currents 1-5mA. The lowest resistor I'm using w/ those is 1k (blue, orange), the highest 3.8k (white, pink, green). I replaced the 101 resistors w/ 102 on my two cards, works well.

BTW, if someone is looking for bright LED's -- try this green one if you dare. Do not look directly into them while on ! I am serious. Nasty little buggers.

Couple of questions:

1. Are LEDs mandatory? If not, will it work by simply soldering the switches, or do i need to do anything else (on the board, in the source code)
2. What kind of LEDs was the board designed for?

Thanks

Couple of questions:

1. Are LEDs mandatory? If not, will it work by simply soldering the switches, or do i need to do anything else (on the board, in the source code)
2. What kind of LEDs was the board designed for?

Thanks

LEDs are not mandatory, but will work if installed.  Any standard LED (2v i think) should work, but be sure to get the smaller ones or they wont fit under the keycap.

I put 2x3x4mm LEDs into mine and they fit and worked fine.

3MM Round headed ones are fine too. :D
Although I have not soldered them in, it looks alright :)

Very nice, sir :)

Something else to collect though!

Have you tried shorting the two contacts using a piece of wire?  Maybe there is a small break in the PCB trace.

The next step might be a clear close-up photo of the other side of the card, so someone who knows what they are doing can check if it looks ok.

Other then that, you might have to ask i3oiler for assistance.

Can the expansion ports on these be used to wire a matrix on? As in, can I use it as a Teensy for a 2x4 matrix with the enabler PCBs?
I am asking because I have a 2x4 switch tester that I want to turn into a functional one.

EDIT: D'oh, after I went through this thread again I found my answer. Sounds like a challenge!
