Serious question.  How much do I have to donate to get a swill cap added?  :P

Apparently no donation is big enough to get a swill cap added. Or at least that is what I am taking 'silence' to mean.

Who is this named after?
No idea. Someone who likes purple?

Sifo that's your cap. Aren't you proud of it?

Who is this named after?

Looks like a mistake.  It should say CDT.

You're doing the promotions and demotions now?? :(

JD key looks lovely to me, also Shenanigans may ensue with the Bro cap..Bro cap I'm confused already thinking about it, and if I could put a person forward maybe Photoelectric key o: but there's too many members that contribute so much to give them all a key :/

Will be ordering the entire pack the Secret key is going to be nice that's what I'm most excited about :)

anyway possible to order more than 1 alps key and add to the order?

it is entirely possible, however i dont want this to turn into a nightmare, so let me come up with a way to implement it, perhaps so anyone who orders a complete set can add any additional keys they like in the notes perhaps, and anyone who has already ordered can pop in a new order and i can combine them, leave it with me for a day or so and ill see what i come up with

The solution is obvious: Give me all the Alps keys and I will swim among them in my bathtub; Elton style.

Serious question.  How much do I have to donate to get a swill cap added?  :P

Apparently no donation is big enough to get a swill cap added. Or at least that is what I am taking 'silence' to mean.

sorry i glanced over your comment,

im working out the numbers, if we hit 100 full sets, i should be able to squeeze in a couple more keys into that pack, leave it with me and ill see what i can jiggle

To help out the cause I have ordered a full set.  I have also specified in the comment (cause I couldn't figure out another way to do it) that I would like to donate $30 to GH.  That donation comes without any expectations of a swill cap.  :)

I hope this is not a bad omen, but I got a sketchy order number: Order #666   >:D  Yikes...

Hopefully the good karma outweighs the bad...

order 666, that is pretty cool, thanks for the generous donation sir, i havent mentioned it yet but melvang also made a very generous donation, ive been meaning to write to him all day but been packing shotgun keys and such

what i think i will do is make a very small run, say 25 of each key or so, of some keys named after some generous contributors + demilk, give 5 to each of their namesakes and then at random spread the other 20 across orders

ill buy these myself so it wont affect possibly adding a couple more keys, just to say thanks to the kind people, and demilk

You changed the 'swill' cap to 'o canada' but you are still trying to force your american colors on me?  :)  I will give you some consolations (color vs colour), but you can't have my soul...  :)

Okay, okay… keep your frigid soul…

Wow, this is just getting freaky.  I just get order number #666 and then I look and see your post count...

Who is this named after?
No idea. Someone who likes purple?

Sifo that's your cap. Aren't you proud of it?

But I already have my own cap

Although yes, I'm quite fond of this.

I really don't even want more caps but I might just donate to GH anyway.

maybe as there is already a sifos soul, we could make a gh key called sifos mind and someone could make something called sifos body, then we would have mind body and soul

Are you going to be donating all proceeds from this GB like every other GeekHack themed keycap, or just the $2 "donation" contributed by each buyer?

If there are any then yes, if all keys go over 100 sold, there will be a little bit left over, either this will go to gh or more keys will be added

I don't think you understood my question.

You have an easy $1.50 markup on each cap, if you sell 100 of each design, that's $1.50 x 100 x 14 = $2100 going to your pocket instead of the site you're "running" this for.

This is the pricing I got from SP a long time ago and according to some people I spoke to, the pricing has gone down a little, and getting different color shots is a negligible cost.

I think this is a really cool idea to get more GEEK HACK caps out into the wild, I just think that something like this for the community should be a lot more transparent, and someone shouldn't make away with $2k of profit and donate none of it.

EDIT:  Sorry I did not take the 14 x 100 into account when I did my math.  You can disregard some of the following because I did my math wrong...   :-[

I am going to leave the post here regardless...  I apologize for doubting you kmiller8.  :P

EDIT2: bunny has confirmed that my original math is correct.  Just wanted to update this to reflect...

---

Pretty sure your math is wrong.

$30 for 14 caps is giving him roughly $2.14 for each cap.  If he gets up to 100 caps for each (which may not happen), then his cost is $1.44.  So that gives him a profit of $.70, not $1.50...

He has already mention that if he gets to 100 of each cap he will be adding caps from his own money.  So the profit of 100 x .7 x 14 gives him about $980 profit, of which some will go towards producing more caps for the people who have donated lots.

He is taking a risk at this pricing already because he has to get to 75 caps of each just to get into the black.

One of the things that I really appreciate about Bunny's buys is that he puts concrete pricing in front of you that is reasonable.  If he ends up getting a lot of traction he usually puts some of his profits towards adding keycaps for free or something like that.

It is not a trivial amount of work to organize this type of thing.  He has a nice website to make it easier for people which is not free to build or run.  There is a lot that goes into this, he should get something from it.  If he does not get to 75 of each he actually loses money.  I think he is doing a pretty good job and I think he has the community in mind when running this sort of buy...

$30 for 14 caps is giving him roughly $2.10 for each cap.  If he gets up to 100 caps for each (which may not happen), then his cost is $1.44.  So that gives him a profit of $.65, not $1.50...  Yes I am rounding a couple numbers here for simplicity sake...

He has already mention that if he gets to 100 of each cap he will be adding caps from his own money.  So the profit of 100 x .65 x 14 gives him about $910 profit, of which some will go towards producing more caps for the people who have donated lots.

He is taking a risk at this pricing already because he has to get to 75 caps of each just to get into the black.

That's the math I used at first swill, but after talking with some people, SP stacks them, so if he gets 100 caps of each, it's 1400 cap pricing (assuming all 100 orders are the $30 set)

Putting it at $2.14 he's charging for caps, and $.41 he's (roughly) getting charged by SP = $1.73 profit

It of course is not trivial, but is it worth 500% markup? I seriously don't think so.

And the fact that he is charging a $2 forced donation on each order and calling it a "donation-drive" would be equivalent to me walking up to 100 people and asking for a $1 to donate, then donating $100 myself.

One of the things I despise about these ctrlaltgroubuy's is that there is static pricing, to me this defeats the whole purpose of a group buy, this is more of just a pre-sale.

I appreciate the service that he provides for sure.  I also agree with you that it would be nice to get a price break if lots of people order.  I like that I know the max I will pay (and it is reasonable), but if I get a bunch of my friends to buy caps and do free marketing of the key set, a price break would be appreciated if lots of caps are ordered...

i understood you fine and i answered you accordingly, my pricing was based on 50 of each cap

if we hit more than that, as i said in my answer, it will either be donated or more keys will be added

im not sure what your problem is exactly, or what isnt being made transparent, i can tell you that the prices are not cheaper than the ones you disclosed, and because all the keys are different colors there is no discount for multiple keys, so its on a per key basis

on top of the costs you are laying out, there is shipping to us proxy, shipping from there to uk and to asian proxy

the only thing i missed in my initial answer is i forgot the price break at 75 and was basing what i said on 50 - 100

so yeas, if we hit 75 of every single key or more, there will be some money in the pot, which will go towards more keys or gh

Thanks again for doing this.

i stated it above but just to completely clear something up

we are not at the 1400 price point if we sell 100 of 14 different keys

we are at the 100 price point, the reason stacking works is based on the plastic, if i was gonna 10 keys, in black and orange, saying 1-10 on them, it would be cheaper to order as a pack rather individually, as in ordering 100 of each number, rather i would order 100 sets of all the numbers

however, the keys in this buy use different colours, so each key is priced individually not as a pack, if i were buying them as a pack, i wouldnt split the buy up into groups of keys, and offer some keys just in one pack, the pricing kmiller showed was pretty accurate, a few cents different here and there on the tiers

if we only sell 50 of every key, after all the shipping to proxies etc, the gb will be in the red, if we hit the 75 price point, there will be money left over, if people read back in the thread, extra keys have already been added and i have stated if we hit these higher tiers more will to, and anything left over after that will go to gh

at no point have i called this a donation drive as is quoted above, but the mandatory donation has been added, in case this gb doesnt make it into the black, and i didnt want gh to end up with nothing from this

im sorry this thread is being slightly derailed, if anyone would like to speak to me further about any of this, please pm me

Isn't the shipping to proxies included in the shipping cost? $15 to ship several key caps?

if you are talking about buyers shipping costs, we always lose money on shipping, shipping latge quantities of keys internationally costs lots of money, when you add packaging materials and with hyper every single order is being send with full tracking, it really adds up

with this buy, anyone with a penumbra or raindrop order, will have their keys sent with that at no extra cost, these keys add weight to every package, and most people have an order with one of those buys, and that weight is added at every stage of shipping

Pls PM me my tracking # for Hyper..

Pretty sure TFR sent them by first class mail which does not include a working tracking #.  Only if it's by Priority Mail, then it'd work.  And it wouldn't cost $15 for tracking international orders...

Pls PM me my tracking # for Hyper..

im not shipping the US orders, if yours has been sent already, raccoon will have the tracking, he is making me a spreadsheet with all the tracking, once i have that ill be able to help you there, off the top of my head he has shipped up to order number 60
I'M IN THE PROCESS OF MOVING RIGHT NOW, WILL BE BACK AROUND SOON
